DAP Averaged Rs 16,055 a Bag in Pakistan in July, Up 23% in a Year

A 50 kg bag of DAP fertiliser cost Rs 16,055 on average in Pakistan in July 2026, up 23 per cent in a year. A bag of Sona urea cost Rs 4,646. These are the latest official retail averages, published by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research on 15 September 2026, just weeks before wheat sowing starts.

The ministry's Fertilizer Review for July 2026 uses prices collected by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. No newer official figure had been published when we checked on 28 September. The same review found farmers bought 30 per cent less DAP this Kharif season, and it blames the high price.

DAP averaged Rs 16,055 and urea Rs 4,646 a bag in July 2026

The official average retail price in July 2026 was Rs 16,055 for a 50 kg bag of DAP, Rs 4,646 for Sona urea and Rs 4,526 for other urea brands. Prices barely moved from June. The big change is against last year.

We read these figures in the Fertilizer Review for July 2026 on the ministry's website. Its price table compares July with June and with July 2025:

By our own sums, DAP is Rs 3,024 a bag dearer than a year earlier, a rise of 23 per cent. Sona urea is up Rs 221, or 5 per cent. NP (a nitrogen and phosphate mix) rose 24 per cent, and SSP 41 per cent.

These are national averages. The price at your village shop can be higher or lower, depending on the district and the brand.

Farmers bought 30 per cent less DAP this Kharif season

DAP sales from April to July 2026 were 292,000 tonnes, 29.9 per cent less than a year earlier. The ministry's review says the fall "may be attributed to its high prices". Urea sales rose 10.5 per cent to 2.05 million tonnes over the same months.

That gap matters for wheat. DAP gives the crop phosphorus at sowing, and urea gives nitrogen later. When farmers cut DAP to save money, the soil gets less phosphorus, and yields can suffer.

Imported DAP was even dearer. The review put imported Moroccan DAP at Rs 17,064 to Rs 18,294 a bag in July. World DAP prices were 880 to 950 US dollars a tonne, it said, against 750 to 810 dollars in September 2025. Part of Pakistan's DAP is imported: the ministry expected 117,000 tonnes of imports this Kharif, against 416,000 tonnes made at home.

No newer official price has been published before wheat sowing

The July review, released on 15 September, is the latest official price data. The August figures had not been published on the ministry's website by 28 September 2026. Prices you see quoted for this week come from dealers and are not official.

We checked the ministry's publications page and the National Fertilizer Development Centre's old website on 28 September. The centre's site still carries the September 2025 review. So for this week's rate, the honest answer is that no government body has published one.

Dealer rates quoted online in September vary by more than a thousand rupees a bag for DAP. We could not match any of them to an official notice, so we do not repeat them. Use the Rs 16,055 July average as your benchmark, and ask why if a shop is far above it.

Wheat sowing in Punjab mostly runs from 1 to 20 November for the main varieties, according to the Wheat Research Institute, Faisalabad. So most farmers will buy DAP in the next four to six weeks. The government has also not yet set a wheat support price for 2026-27, which makes the fertiliser bill harder to plan.

Sindh has approved a wheat subsidy, and Punjab uses the Kisan Card

Sindh's cabinet approved a Rs 14.9 billion package for wheat growers with up to 25 acres on 17 September 2026. It was reported to include a flat subsidy on DAP. In Punjab, the Kisan Card lets registered farmers buy inputs, including fertiliser, at listed dealers.

Radio Pakistan reported the Sindh approval. The DAP part, and how much it is per bag, has been reported but not yet published by the Sindh Agriculture Department. The details are in Sindh's wheat subsidy for small farmers.

In Punjab, the card only works at registered shops. We counted 3,086 registered input dealers across 36 district lists earlier this month, and the list of Kisan Card registered dealers in Punjab shows which ones are near you. Some districts have very few.

Neither scheme changes the market price of a bag. They reduce what an eligible farmer pays, so check your eligibility before you buy.

Report fertiliser overcharging to the Agriculture Department

If a dealer charges far above the market rate, hides stock or refuses a receipt, complain to your province's Agriculture Department. In Punjab, the department's helpline is 0800-17000. You can also file a complaint on the Pakistan Citizen Portal, which forwards it to the right office.

A strong complaint has details. Follow these steps:

1. Ask for a printed or written receipt with the shop name, brand, number of bags and price.
2. Note the date, the shop's address and the dealer's name.
3. Take a photo of the bags and any rate board in the shop.
4. Call the Punjab Agriculture helpline, 0800-17000, or your district agriculture office in other provinces.
5. File the same details on the Pakistan Citizen Portal and keep the complaint number.

Check the bag too. It should be sealed, with the maker's name and weight printed on it. A torn or restitched bag can mean the fertiliser was mixed or short weighed.
