FIR Check Online Punjab by CNIC: Copy of FIR, E-Tag Status and 1787 Complaints

Punjab Police has no public FIR search by CNIC. Get a copy of your FIR at a Police Khidmat Markaz, track the e-tag, and use 1787 if police refuse to register.

An FIR check online in Punjab gets you three things, not a search by CNIC: a certified copy of your own FIR through a Police Khidmat Markaz (PKM), the status of a police station application through its e-tag, and the progress of a complaint lodged with the IGP Complaint Center on 1787. Punjab Police does not let the public look up FIRs by CNIC or by name.

Search results promise a box where you type a CNIC and every case appears. We opened punjabpolice.gov.pk on 24 October 2026 and followed each FIR-related button. None leads to a public FIR search. The "Copy FIR" button sends you to the PKM site, and the complaint buttons lead to 1787.

That is still useful, if you know which door fits your problem. Here is each one, what to bring, and what to do when the police will not register the FIR at all.

Punjab Police records every FIR in its Police Station Record Management System, but only officers can search it. The public gets a certified copy of an FIR they reported, an e-tag to follow an application, and 1787 for complaints about police handling.

A Punjab Police page on its front desks says all FIRs are entered into the record system and that supervisory officers can see the status of a case, its witnesses, accused, challan date and next hearing. That page was last updated in 2019 and gave a count of 2.5 million FIRs at the time. It describes an internal tool, not a public one.

Punjab Police Khidmat Markaz portal for a copy of FIR

A copy of your FIR comes from a Police Khidmat Markaz

The "Copy FIR" button on the Punjab Police home page links to the Police Khidmat Markaz services page. When we read that page on 17 September 2026, the copy was free, issued on the spot in about 5 to 10 minutes.

The PKM list on that date asked for four things:

  1. Your original CNIC and two photocopies.
  2. The reason you need the copy, such as an insurance claim or a court case.
  3. The FIR number and the police station where it was registered.
  4. Copies of any related documents, for example a court notice.

On 24 October 2026 the PKM site did not load for us at all. Our browser and a second reader both timed out, while the main Punjab Police site worked. So treat the fee and timing as what PKM published in September, and confirm at the counter. The Punjab Police FAQ adds that a certified copy, signed by an officer and stamped by the police station, is to be given to the person who reports the crime.

Centres, hours and the other 13 services are in our Police Khidmat Markaz Punjab list.

The e-tag tracks an application before it becomes an FIR

When you give an application at a Punjab police station front desk, staff enter it in the Complaint Management System and hand you an e-tag. Senior officers and a monitoring room in the Central Police Office, Lahore, follow it until it is resolved.

Front desks are run by civilian staff of the police IT branch, according to Punjab Police, and they will type the application for you if needed. Keep the e-tag slip safe. It is your proof that you reported on that date, which matters if the police later delay registration.

The e-tag is not an FIR number. An application can be inquired into, closed or turned into an FIR. If it becomes an FIR, ask the station for the FIR number and year, because the copy service needs both.

Steps to get a copy of an FIR in Punjab

1787 handles complaints when police refuse or delay an FIR

The IGP Complaint Center takes complaints on 1787 by call or SMS, online and by email. It covers non-registration of FIRs, faulty investigation, illegal detention, arrest of innocent people, false FIRs, slackness and bribery, and complainants can view progress online.

The Punjab Police page on the centre sets clear clocks. Every complaint goes to an officer no lower than a Sub Divisional Police Officer, who must call you within 8 hours.

Complaint typeReply deadline
First call from the SDPO8 hours
Illegal detention24 hours
Demand for a bribe24 hours
FIR not registered72 hours
Arrest of an innocent person72 hours
All other complaintsTwo weeks

The Punjab Police FAQ is blunt: no police officer has the authority to refuse registration of a case. If they do, inform the SDPO, the Superintendent of Police or the District Police Officer for that area. The full process for complaining on 1787 includes the online form.

A bad investigation can be moved twice under the Police Order

If you are unhappy with how an FIR is being investigated, either party can ask for a transfer of investigation. Punjab Police says the Police Order 2002 allows two transfers, decided first by a district board and then by a provincial board.

Send the request in writing to the district SP Investigation, the DPO, the Regional Police Officer or the Additional IGP Investigation at the Central Police Office. Attach a CNIC copy and give the FIR number, police station and district. In Lahore, the Capital City Police Officer orders the first change after a review by three Superintendents.

Boards usually wait until the investigation is complete before recommending a transfer, the FAQ says, so this is slow. Start it early. And if you believe the FIR itself is false, the legal routes to cancel a false FIR run through the police and the courts, not through 1787 alone.

Common questions

Can I check an FIR online in Punjab by CNIC?

No. Punjab Police has no public FIR search by CNIC or name. You can get a copy of an FIR you lodged at a Police Khidmat Markaz and follow complaints on 1787.

How much does a copy of FIR cost in Punjab?

The PKM services page listed it as free when we read it on 17 September 2026. We could not reload that page on 24 October 2026, so confirm at the counter.

What is the Punjab Police complaint number?

1787, for calls and SMS. Punjab Police lists it as the IGP Complaint Center number on every page of punjabpolice.gov.pk. For an emergency, call 15.

Can someone else get a copy of my FIR?

Punjab Police's FAQ says the certified copy goes to the person who reported the crime. If you send someone, ask the PKM counter first what authority letter it accepts.

What can I do if police in Punjab refuse to register my FIR?

Report it to the SDPO, SP or DPO, or complain on 1787, which must reply within 72 hours for non-registration. The wider steps when police refuse or delay an FIR include a court application.

Does a free copy of the FIR come with the court file?

An accused person is entitled to free copies of the FIR and statements before trial. We explain how to get free FIR copies before trial separately.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Punjab Police home page, its FAQs, its IGP Complaint Center page and its front desk and record system page on 24 October 2026. The PKM site did not load on 24 October, so the copy fee, timing and documents come from our reading of the PKM services page on 17 September 2026. We could not open the 1787 online complaint form, which also failed to load, so we have not described its fields.
