Free Gemini for Pakistani Students: Announced, Not Yet Claimable
Google says every student in Pakistan gets a free year of Gemini. We checked, and there is no way to claim it yet. What to ignore meanwhile.

Google has said every student in Pakistan will get a free one year Gemini subscription. The announcement came on 18 August 2026, at the opening of Google's office in Islamabad.
So we went to claim it.
You cannot, yet. Google's own student page, opened on 19 August 2026, says this: "Our previous offer for students ended on December 9, 2025 and is no longer available in your region."
There is no sign-up link for the new offer. That is the honest position today, and it matters, because a number of sites are already publishing steps for claiming it.
What has actually happened

| Announcement | Made 18 August 2026 in Islamabad |

| Google student page | Says the previous offer ended 9 December 2025 |
| Eligibility rules | Not published for this offer |
| Full details | Promised later in the week |
The announcement was made by Wilson L. White, Google's Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy, at the inauguration of the company's Pakistan office. Reporting across Dawn, The Express Tribune, ARY News and Pakistan Today agrees on the substance: a free year of Gemini for students, with the detail to follow in a formal announcement.
That detail is the part that has not arrived.
Why some claim guides will waste your time
Here is the thing worth knowing before you follow a step by step guide you found today.
Google ran a student offer in Pakistan before. It was announced in October 2025, it covered the Google AI Pro plan, and reporting at the time said it was for students aged 18 and over. That offer closed. Google's page gives the date: 9 December 2025.
Several pages currently ranking for this describe that earlier offer while carrying today's excitement. One tells students to claim before a June deadline. Another says grab it before it is gone.
Follow those and you arrive at a page telling you the offer is not available in your region. It is easy to read that as having missed out. You have not missed anything. The new offer has not opened.
This is a general habit worth keeping. When an offer is announced but the terms are not published, anything claiming to explain the terms is either describing a different offer or guessing.
What we are not going to tell you
We could fill this page with eligibility rules. We are not going to, and the reason is specific.
The details circulating, an age threshold of 18, the AI Pro plan, the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, NotebookLM, two terabytes of storage, all attach to the October 2025 offer. They are accurate descriptions of that one.
Nobody has published the terms of the new one. Carrying last year's conditions across and presenting them as this year's is how a student under 18 spends a week believing they qualify, or an eligible student assumes they do not.
So we will state only what Google has said: free Gemini, one year, for students in Pakistan. Everything past that is unconfirmed until Google publishes it.
What to do today
Very little, and that is the correct answer rather than a disappointing one.
- Do not pay anybody. No legitimate version of this involves a fee, an agent or a middleman. An offer that Google is giving away free is a natural setting for people selling access to it.
- Do not enter card details on any page claiming to unlock it. Student verification is not a payment step.
- Do not hand your Google password to a site that promises to activate it for you. That is account theft with a helpful face.
- Check the source date on any guide you read. If it describes a deadline in 2025 or mid 2026, it is the old offer.
- Wait for Google's own page. When it opens, the route will be on Google's domain and it will not require anything unusual.
If you want to use Gemini in the meantime, the free tier at gemini.google.com is open to anyone, without a student offer. It is a smaller allowance rather than nothing.
When it opens, start from the right place
Two habits will keep this simple whenever the page appears.
Start from google.com yourself rather than a link forwarded on WhatsApp. Offer announcements are one of the most reliably imitated things online, and a forwarded link is the standard delivery method for the imitation.
Sign in with the account you actually study on, because a student verification step is likely and it usually keys off an institutional email or a document check. Claiming on a personal account and then wanting it moved is a problem without a clean fix.
Also read what happens at the end of the twelve months. Free years frequently roll into paid subscriptions unless cancelled, and the moment to understand that is when you sign up, not when the charge appears. If you are on a card, set a reminder for month eleven.
The bigger announcement behind this
The Gemini offer came as part of Google formally opening its Pakistan office, which we cover separately in what Google actually committed to in Islamabad. That piece includes the part almost nobody is reporting, which is where the company is already manufacturing hardware in Pakistan.
For students, the practical point is that this is not a one off giveaway. It sits alongside training programmes and hardware, which makes it more likely to actually launch than a standalone promotion would be.
If you are at the stage of choosing a field, our guide on what to choose after your matric result is the place to start, and medical applicants should note the MDCAT registration deadline of 21 August.
We will update this page
This is a moving story and we would rather revisit it than leave a guess standing.
When Google publishes the formal announcement, we will add the eligibility rules, the claim route and the deadline, and we will date them the way we date everything else. If the terms differ from the October 2025 offer, we will say so directly rather than quietly editing.
Until then, the useful thing we can tell you is the thing most pages will not: it is announced, it is not claimable, and nothing you do today will speed it up.
Questions readers are asking
Is free Gemini available for Pakistani students right now?
No. It was announced on 18 August 2026, but there is no claim route yet. Google's student page still says the previous offer ended on 9 December 2025.
How do I claim the free Gemini subscription?
You cannot at the moment. Google has said eligibility and registration details will follow in a formal announcement.
I found a page with claim steps. Is it real?
Check what offer it describes. Guides mentioning a 2025 or mid 2026 deadline are describing the earlier offer, which has closed. Following them leads to a page saying the offer is unavailable.
Do I have to be 18?
That condition applied to the October 2025 offer. Google has not published the terms of the new one, so we are not going to state an age requirement for it.
Will it cost anything?
Google has described it as free for one year. Anybody charging you a fee, or asking for card details to unlock it, is not Google.
What happens after the free year?
Not stated for this offer. Free periods often convert to paid subscriptions unless cancelled, so read the terms when the page opens and set your own reminder.
Can I use Gemini without the student offer?
Yes. There is a free tier at gemini.google.com open to anyone, with smaller limits than a paid plan.
