Free Gemini for Pakistani Students: How to Claim 1 Free Year

Pakistani students can claim a free year of Google AI Plus. The route is one.google.com/ai-student, the student check runs through SheerID on a school email address, a valid payment method is required at sign up, and the offer has to be redeemed by 31 December 2026.

The part that catches people: it is not a gift that ends quietly. Google's own Pakistan page says the plan charges Rs 1,400 a month once the twelve months are up.

Google AI Plus is free for twelve months for eligible students

The offer is a twelve month Google AI Plus student membership at no cost. Google's student page, served in Pakistan, lists 400 GB of cloud storage, two times higher usage limits in Gemini, and eligibility for college students aged 18 and over. Redemption closes on 31 December 2026.

Note the plan name. This is Google AI Plus, not Google AI Pro. The two are different products at different prices, and a lot of the coverage has used them interchangeably. Google AI Pro was listed at Rs 5,600 a month on Google One's Pakistan plans page on the day we checked. AI Plus is the one attached to the free student year.

The 400 GB is shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, the same pool your storage already uses. It is not a separate Gemini locker.

SheerID checks your enrolment, not your email domain

Google One's help page names the verifier. You verify student status through SheerID using a valid school email address, and you must be studying at a higher education institution in a country where Google AI Plus and Google AI Pro are supported. There is no rule naming a particular domain.

So an address ending in edu.pk is the easy case, because SheerID recognises the institution behind it. It is the enrolment that is being checked, though, and plenty of Pakistani universities issue addresses that do not end in edu.pk. If your address is not accepted, the fallback sits with SheerID rather than with Google, and Google's help page sends you to SheerID's own FAQ for it.

Pakistan is not named in a published eligible country list. What Google publishes is the exclusion list: Albania, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau and Tunisia. Pakistan is not on it, Google One sells both plans in rupees here, and Google's student page serves the offer to Pakistani visitors with a rupee price in the fine print.

The claim runs through one.google.com/ai-student

Google One's help page sets out the claim in four moves, and the order below follows it. The flow itself sits behind a Google sign in, so the pages past the first screen are not publicly readable.

1. Go to one.google.com/ai-student. Type it yourself rather than following a forwarded link. Requesting it while signed out simply bounces you to the Google login page.
2. Sign in with a personal Google Account. Google's terms require a personal account, which rules out the Workspace account your university administers.
3. Select the student offer. Google lists more than one. The free twelve month AI Plus trial is the one described here; the discounted AI Pro plan and the AI Pro with YouTube Premium bundle are paid.
4. Verify through SheerID. Use your school email address when the verification step appears.
5. Complete the subscription, including a form of payment. Google will not take money for the trial, but it will not start the trial without a card or another accepted method on file.

That payment requirement is the step that stops most people in Pakistan, because it wants a card that works on an international billing flow. If a card is declined partway and money still leaves the account, the usual outcome is a reversal, and the rules on a payment that failed while the money was deducted apply the same way here.

The free year ends in an automatic Rs 1,400 monthly charge

Google states this plainly rather than hiding it. When the twelve months end you convert to a regular paid Google AI Plus plan, Google says it will notify you ahead of the change, and the Pakistan page prints the figure as Rs 1,400 a month. You can cancel at any point before that.

Twelve months at Rs 1,400 is Rs 16,800 of value if you would otherwise have paid for it. That is the honest way to read the number. It is not cash and it is not a scholarship, and it is worth nothing to a student who was never going to buy the plan.

One more clause worth knowing before you act. Google says that if you upgrade to a paid membership from the twelve month trial, you are not eligible for the trial offer again. Upgrading early costs you the rest of the free period permanently.

Set your own reminder for month eleven. Do not rely on the notification arriving in an inbox you read.

A personal account, and nobody charges you to claim this

Two failure modes account for most of the trouble. Claiming on the wrong account, and paying somebody to do it for you.

The account one is easy to get wrong because it feels backwards. Your school email goes into SheerID for verification. Your subscription goes on a personal Google Account. Students who sign in with the university account and claim from there hit a wall, and moving a subscription between accounts afterwards is not a clean operation.

The paying one is simpler. Google charges nothing for the claim and asks nobody to unlock it on your behalf. A free offer with a deadline is exactly the setting that the newest scams doing the rounds in Pakistan are built for, and handing over a Google password to a page that promises to activate something is account theft with a polite face.

Google is also excluding some existing customers: members of a family group, Pixel Pass holders and Google Fi subscribers are listed as ineligible.

What we could not check from outside the login

We read Google's published pages, and we are telling you where that stops. The claim flow itself is behind a Google account login, so we could not walk through it, and we are not going to describe screens we have not seen.

Specifically, we cannot tell you which Pakistani institutions SheerID already has on file, how long a manual review takes when the email check fails, or which payment methods pass in practice on a Pakistani card. Those answers come from students who have actually run it.
