OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna on 22 September 2026, after GPT-6 Astra earlier in the month, and an upgraded GPT-6.1 Sol on 29 September. ChatGPT Plus (US$20 a month) and Pro get all of them. Free and Go users get only GPT-6 Luna, in the desktop app. Pakistan is on OpenAI's supported countries list.

We read OpenAI's own announcements, its ChatGPT pricing page and its help centre on 29 September 2026, and checked them again on 5 October 2026. The short version for a user in Pakistan: GPT-6 works here, but the full set sits behind a paid plan. The free plan still runs everyday chats on the older GPT-5.6 Luna.

GPT-6 is the new family of models behind ChatGPT. A "model" is the AI system that writes the answers. OpenAI now names its models in tiers, and the names tell you roughly how strong and how costly each one is.

GPT-6 comes in Astra, Sol and Luna, plus a newer Sol

OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on 3 September 2026 and called it its most intelligent model. GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna followed on 22 September. Sol is the middle model for demanding work. Luna is the fastest and cheapest of the three. On 29 September OpenAI added GPT-6.1 Sol, an upgrade to Sol.

OpenAI's Sol and Luna announcement says both were trained with "similar methods" to Astra, to bring its gains to "faster, more affordable models". Astra stays the top choice when you want "the best results".

ModelReleasedWhat OpenAI says it is for
GPT-6 Astra3 September 2026The strongest model, for the hardest work
GPT-6 Sol22 September 2026Difficult work tasks at lower cost
GPT-6 Luna22 September 2026Fast, low-cost everyday use
GPT-6.1 Sol29 September 2026An upgraded Sol, close to Astra for coding and work tasks

OpenAI claims Sol makes about half as many factual mistakes as the model before it, on its own internal test. That is OpenAI's figure, from conversations where users had flagged errors. We have not tested it ourselves.

OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol announcement says the new Sol "nearly matches" Astra on coding, computer use and professional work, at one fifth of Astra's API price. The older GPT-6 Sol is still listed on the pricing page too.

ChatGPT Plus and Pro get every GPT-6 model

OpenAI's pricing page lists GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6 Sol, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna as included on Plus. Pro shows "expanded" for Astra and both Sols, and "unlimited" for Luna, subject to abuse guardrails. Free and Go show "No" for all four in that table. The Free plan's everyday chats still run on GPT-5.6 Luna.

Which ChatGPT plans get GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna in October 2026

There is one catch in the launch post. OpenAI said Sol and Luna were available "in ChatGPT Work and Codex" first, and "not yet available in Chat". ChatGPT Work is the agent mode, and Codex is the coding tool. OpenAI also said Free and Go users "can access GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app". GPT-6.1 Sol launched the same way on 29 September, in ChatGPT Work and Codex for paid plans, and "not yet available in Chat". The Sol column above covers both Sols.

So the "Desktop app only" line above comes from the announcement, not the pricing table. OpenAI's help centre says model lists change often, so the model picker on your own account is the final word.

Plus costs US$20 a month and Pro starts at US$100

OpenAI's help centre lists ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month. Pro now comes in three tiers: $100, $200 and a new $500 a month. The $200 tier, closed to new sign-ups from 10 September 2026, is open again.

  • Plus, $20 a month: GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna, more messages and uploads, projects and custom GPTs.
  • Pro 100, $100 a month: everything in Plus, with more usage and Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra.
  • Pro 200, $200 a month: more usage than Pro 100. Open to new subscribers again, but with a lower allowance than before.
  • Pro 500, $500 a month: the highest usage, and the only tier that includes Ultrafast, a faster mode of GPT-6 Astra.
ChatGPT Plus and Pro prices in US dollars as listed by OpenAI in October 2026

OpenAI says people who held Pro 200 at any point from 22 September to 29 September 2026 keep the old, larger allowance until 29 October 2026. After that they move to the lower allowance at the same $200 price.

For most students and freelancers in Pakistan, Plus is the sensible stop. Pro is priced for people who run long coding or research jobs every day. And if you are still weighing whether to pay at all, the free plans of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude compare well for light use.

GPT-6 works in Pakistan, and ChatGPT can bill in rupees

Pakistan is on OpenAI's ChatGPT supported countries list, so you can sign up and pay without a VPN. OpenAI's multi-currency billing page lists PKR for Pakistan on web subscriptions. App Store and Google Play subscriptions are charged in local currency by Apple or Google.

You still need a debit or credit card that allows international online payments. Switch on online and international use in your bank app before you try.

Your bank may also deduct FBR advance tax under section 236Y on card payments abroad. It is 0.5% if you are on the Active Taxpayers List and 1% if you are not, the same rule that applies when buying Steam games from Pakistan. On $20, that is 10 or 20 cents.

Whether the bank applies it to a rupee-billed charge depends on how it treats the payment. Your first statement is the only reliable check.

Get GPT-6 on your ChatGPT account in five steps

Upgrading takes a few minutes on the website. Sign in, choose Plus from the pricing page, pay by card, then pick a GPT-6 model from the model menu. If the new models do not show at once, OpenAI says to try again later.

  1. Turn on international online payments for your card in your bank app.
  2. Sign in at chatgpt.com and open the pricing page.
  3. Choose Plus, or one of the three Pro tiers, and pay by card.
  4. Open the model picker and choose a GPT-6 model.
  5. Check your first bank statement for the exchange rate and any tax.

On the free plan, install the ChatGPT desktop app to try GPT-6 Luna. If you write mostly in Urdu, our Urdu test of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok shows how the assistants compare on that.

Common questions

Is GPT-6 free in Pakistan?

Partly. Free users can use GPT-6 Luna in the ChatGPT desktop app, according to OpenAI. Astra and Sol need Plus or Pro.

How much is ChatGPT Plus in Pakistan?

OpenAI lists Plus at US$20 a month. Web subscriptions can be billed in PKR, and your bank may add 0.5% or 1% advance tax.

What is the difference between GPT-6 Sol and Luna?

Sol is the stronger model for harder work. Luna is faster and cheaper. OpenAI's API prices Sol at $2 and Luna at $0.10 per million input tokens. GPT-6.1 Sol, the upgraded Sol, keeps the $2 input price.

Can I buy ChatGPT Pro $200 now?

Yes. OpenAI has reopened Pro 200 to new subscribers after pausing it on 10 September 2026. New subscribers get a lower usage allowance than before. Pro 100 and the new Pro 500 are also open.

Is ChatGPT available in Pakistan?

Yes. Pakistan is on OpenAI's list of ChatGPT supported countries.

Why can't I see GPT-6 in my model menu?

OpenAI rolled the models out gradually and first in ChatGPT Work and Codex. GPT-6.1 Sol also started there. Check your plan, update the app and try again later.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We checked on 29 September 2026 and again on 5 October 2026. The release dates come from OpenAI's news feed. The Sol and Luna availability, API prices and factuality claim come from OpenAI's 22 September announcement, and the GPT-6.1 Sol details from its 29 September announcement. The model table by plan is from the ChatGPT pricing page. The $20 Plus price is from OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus help page, and the three Pro tiers, the reopening of Pro 200 and its allowance rules from its Pro tiers help page. Pakistan's listing and PKR billing are from OpenAI's supported countries and multi-currency billing pages. The 236Y rates are from FBR's withholding tax rate card. The pricing page did not show dollar prices in the version we could read, so the prices are the help centre's.
