GT Road Fog Update: How to Check PMD's Highway Fog Table for N-5 and Every Other Sector in Pakistan (2026)

PMD's highway fog update covers 10 sectors from Islamabad to Karachi, but on 31 October 2026 it still showed 28 February data. How to read it, and call 130.

A long straight highway lined with trees disappearing into thick morning fog

PMD's highway fog update for GT Road and other national highways is at weather.gov.pk/nwfc/highway-fog-update. It covers 10 highway sectors, from Islamabad to Kharian on the N-5 down to Hyderabad to Karachi, in five three-hour slots from 11 am to 2 am. But when we opened it on 31 October 2026, the table still carried the issue date 28 February 2026, so it is last winter's data.

That matters because people search "GT Road fog" and land on a page that says "No Fog" everywhere. This page shows every sector PMD covers, how to read the table, how to tell old data from new, and what to do instead when the table is out of date: the motorway police helpline 130 covers national highways too.

We opened PMD's highway fog update and its motorway fog update on 31 October 2026 and read every sector.

PMD's highway table covers 10 sectors on five highways

The highway fog update lists 10 sectors: five on the N-5 GT Road from Islamabad to Sukkur and on to Karachi, one each on the N-10, N-50 and the Jacobabad to Rohri road, and two on the N-25. Several sectors split into smaller stretches, such as Okara to Mian Channu.

PMD's sector labelStretches listed inside it
N5-1 Islamabad to KharianIslamabad to Kharian
N5-2 Kharian to GujranwalaKharian to Gujranwala, Gujranwala to Lahore
N5-3 Lahore to OkaraLahore to Okara, Okara to Mian Channu, Mian Channu to Multan
N5-4 Multan to BahawalpurMultan to Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur to Rahim Yar Khan
N5-5 Rahim Yar Khan to SukkurRahim Yar Khan to Sukkur, Ghotki to Dadu, Dadu to Hyderabad, Sukkur to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Karachi
N6-5 Jacobabad to RohriJacobabad to Rohri
N10 GwadarJiwani to Gwadar
N50 Qila SaifullahKarachi to Muslim Bagh
N25 KalatKarachi to Pashin
N25 UthalKarachi to Lasbella

The labels are PMD's own. "N6-5" is how the page writes the Jacobabad to Rohri sector. Nothing is listed for highways in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Peshawar to Charsadda, or for the N-55 Indus Highway north of Dadu.

Check the issue date first: it still read 28 February 2026

The page prints an issue date above the table. On 31 October 2026 it read 28 February 2026, eight months old, and every slot on every highway said "No Fog". That is a leftover from last winter, not today's forecast. A "No Fog" with an old date tells you nothing.

PMD's motorway fog update showed the same 28 February 2026 date when we checked, as our walk-through of the PMD motorway fog update also found. PMD has not said when it will restart the tables for this winter. Until the date changes, do not use either table to plan a drive.

Each row has five three-hour slots from 11 am to 2 am

Every stretch shows five slots: 11 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to 5 pm, 5 pm to 8 pm, 8 pm to 11 pm and 11 pm to 2 am. PMD says the information is "updated every 3 hours". Each slot gives a fog level, such as "No Fog" or "Shallow".

  1. Open weather.gov.pk, then the Fog Update menu, then Highway Fog Update.
  2. Read the issue date above the table. If it is not today, stop and call 130.
  3. Find your sector, for example N5-3 for Lahore to Multan.
  4. Find your stretch inside the sector, such as Okara to Mian Channu.
  5. Read the slot for the time you will be on that stretch, not the time you leave home.

On the motorway table we saw "Shallow" fog in a few slots of last winter's data, so the page does use more than one level. Night slots matter most, because fog thickens after dark and before dawn.

Five steps to read PMD's highway fog table for GT Road in Pakistan

Call 130 for live road status on GT Road and motorways

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) helpline 130 is the fastest official way to ask whether a highway or motorway is open and how thick the fog is right now. It works when PMD's table is out of date, and the police on the road can tell you about closures.

What you needWhere to get it
Fog forecast by highway sectorPMD highway fog update, if the issue date is current
Fog forecast by motorway sectorPMD motorway fog update, same date check
Is the road open now?NHMP helpline 130
Weather for the whole weekPMD weekly outlook

All NHMP numbers, including regional offices, are in how to contact the motorway police on 130. For motorways, see how to check if a motorway is open or closed.

Drive slower and use low beams when fog is reported

If 130 or the table reports fog on your route, leave early, slow down, keep a long gap and use low beams and fog lights rather than high beams. High beams reflect off fog and blind you. Do not stop on the carriageway; pull fully off the road if you must stop.

The motorway police have run a campaign against high beams, covered in our report on the high beam crackdown on Punjab motorways. Before a long winter drive, the NDMA's list to prepare your car for a winter trip is worth five minutes.

Common questions

Where can I check fog on GT Road?

On PMD's highway fog update at weather.gov.pk, under Fog Update. Check the issue date first, then call the motorway police on 130 for live status.

Is PMD's highway fog update current?

Not when we checked on 31 October 2026. Its issue date was 28 February 2026, so it showed last winter's data.

Which GT Road stretches does PMD cover?

Islamabad to Kharian, Kharian to Gujranwala, Gujranwala to Lahore, Lahore to Okara, Okara to Mian Channu, Mian Channu to Multan, Multan to Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur to Rahim Yar Khan and on to Sukkur, Hyderabad and Karachi.

Does PMD cover Peshawar to Charsadda?

No. The highway table has no sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Call 130 for roads there.

How often does the fog table update?

PMD says every three hours, once it is running for the season. Each row shows five slots from 11 am to 2 am.

Is the NHMP helpline 130 only for motorways?

No. The National Highways and Motorway Police cover national highways as well as motorways, so 130 is the number for GT Road too.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 31 October 2026. The sector list, time slots, issue date and "updated every 3 hours" note come from PMD's highway fog update on weather.gov.pk, read on 31 October 2026. The motorway fog date comes from PMD's motorway fog update, read the same day. The weekly outlook is PMD's weekly weather outlook of 30 October. PMD does not say when it will restart the fog tables for this winter, and we could not find a list of every fog level it uses.
