If your family or companions ended up in different Hajj 2027 groups under the government scheme, you can now bring them into one group through the group merging option on the ministry's Hajj portal. A merged group travels on the same flight, gets the same maktab in Mina and Arafat, and stays in the same building in Makkah and Madinah. Three things must match first: package length, departure city, and fiqh and scheme.

We read the Ministry of Religious Affairs notice on group merging, posted on its latest news page on 2 October 2026, and checked it on 25 October 2026. Below are the conditions, the room rules for mahram and non-mahram pilgrims, the extra room charges, and what to do if the merge is refused.

Group merging puts your family on one flight, one maktab and one building

The ministry says a merged group gets the same flight and travel, the same maktab (camp) in Mina and Arafat, and the same accommodation in Makkah and Madinah. After merging, the group can also pick from the rooms still available.

This fixes a common problem. Families often register one by one, on different days or from different phones. Each application lands in its own group. Without merging, an elderly father can end up on a different flight from the son who was meant to look after him.

Merging is a one-time chance to correct that before the ministry finalises flights and buildings. Do it early, while room options are still open.

Three conditions must match before groups can merge

The groups you want to merge must have the same package length (long or short), the same point of departure, and the same fiqh and Hajj scheme. If any one of these differs, the groups cannot be merged as they stand.

ConditionWhat must matchExample that fails
Package lengthBoth groups on the long package, or both on the short packageFather on the long package, son on the short one
Point of departureSame departure cityOne group flying from Lahore, the other from Islamabad
FiqhSame fiqh recorded on the applicationDifferent fiqh entries for two groups
Hajj schemeBoth in the government schemeOne government applicant, one private package

The package length matters most in practice. The government's long package runs about 38 to 42 days and costs Rs 12 lakh, while the short one runs about 20 to 25 days and costs Rs 13 lakh. Two groups on different lengths fly on different dates, so the system cannot put them together.

Group merging is described for the government scheme. Private scheme pilgrims travel with their Hajj company, so a family choosing among the private Hajj 2027 packages should book under one company and one package from the start.

Mahram families can take a family room, others share

After merging, members who are shar'i mahram to each other can choose a family room. Men and women who are not mahram to each other will be placed in shared accommodation. Separate 2-bed and 3-bed rooms cost extra.

The ministry's notice warns pilgrims to choose their room option after merging with great care. That is good advice, because a room choice can change the bill. The government scheme advertisement lists the extra charges, both for Makkah only.

Room option (government scheme, Hajj 2027)Extra charge per personWhere
Shared accommodationIncluded in the packageMakkah and Madinah
Family room for 4 to 6 mahram relativesIncluded in the packageMakkah and Madinah
Separate 3-bed roomRs 70,000Makkah only
Separate 2-bed roomRs 2.1 lakh (Rs 210,000)Makkah only

A couple travelling alone may be tempted by the 2-bed room. For two people that is Rs 420,000 on top of the package, by our arithmetic. Think about it before you tap the button.

How to merge Hajj 2027 groups on the Hajj portal

Sign in to the Hajj portal as a successful applicant, open the group merging option, add the other group, and check that the package, departure city and fiqh match. The option is live on the portal and is reaching the Pak Hajj app in phases.

  1. Open the ministry's Hajj Management Portal and sign in with the details you used to apply.
  2. Confirm that every person you want to merge is a successful applicant in the government scheme.
  3. Check the three conditions for each group: package length, departure city, and fiqh.
  4. Use the group merging option to request the merge and follow the on-screen prompts.
  5. Once merged, review the room options carefully, especially any paid 2-bed or 3-bed room.
  6. Keep a screenshot of the merged group and any room choice.

The ministry's notice does not list the exact screens or a closing date for merging. If the option does not show on your account, try the portal on a computer, because the app is receiving it in stages. The newer Pak Hajj app features, such as package and room changes, also reach some phones before others.

What to do if the merge is refused

A refused merge almost always means one of the three conditions differs. Check the package length first. If one person needs to change package, use the app's change option, then try merging again. For other problems, use the app's complaint option or call the Hajj helpline.

Some cases cannot be solved by merging at all. If a companion cannot travel, the rules on replacing a Hajj companion are strict and close after a cutoff. Women travelling without a mahram need an affidavit and a group of women, which is a separate route from family merging.

The ministry's Hajj helplines are 051-9205696, 051-9216980, 051-9216981 and 051-9216982. Call with the application numbers of everyone in both groups, so the agent can see the mismatch.

Common questions

What is group merging in Hajj 2027?

It is a ministry option that lets successful government scheme pilgrims who registered in separate groups join one group, so they share a flight, a maktab and a building.

Can a long package and a short package pilgrim be merged?

No. The ministry requires the same package length, the same departure city and the same fiqh and scheme for both groups.

Is group merging available in the Pak Hajj app?

The ministry says it is available on the Hajj portal now and will come to the Pak Hajj app in phases. Use the portal if the app does not show it.

Does merging cost anything?

The notice mentions no fee for merging itself. Separate 2-bed and 3-bed rooms in Makkah cost Rs 210,000 and Rs 70,000 per person extra.

Can non-mahram relatives share a family room after merging?

No. Only shar'i mahram members can choose a family room. Non-mahram men and women get shared accommodation.

Is there a last date for group merging?

The ministry's notice does not give one. Merge as early as you can, because room options shrink as other groups choose.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Ministry of Religious Affairs notice "Grouping Option in Government Hajj Scheme 2027", posted on 2 October 2026 as an Urdu infographic, on 25 October 2026. It gives the benefits, the three conditions, the mahram and shared room rule, the extra cost of 2-bed and 3-bed rooms, and says merging is on the Hajj portal and coming to the Pak Hajj app in phases. Room charges and package lengths come from the ministry's government scheme Hajj 2027 advertisement of 16 August 2026, read the same day. We could not open the merging screen itself, because the portal needs an applicant's login, and the notice gives no closing date.
