A smooth stone on a dark wooden table, for Harry Brook's double hundred at Rawalpindi

Short answer: Harry Brook scored 202 for England against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi on 22 October 2026, reaching 200 in 114 balls. It is reported as the fastest double hundred in ODI history and England's first. England still lost the tri-series match by 2 wickets.

Brook hit 21 fours and 10 sixes in 116 balls, and England made 429 for 4. Sri Lanka then chased 430 with one ball left, as our report on the Sri Lanka chase sets out. Brook's innings is the story of the first half. The International Cricket Council (ICC) match story and a full match report agree on the main figures. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) scorecard would not load for us.

Brook reached 200 off 114 balls

Brook made 202 off 116 balls with 21 fours and 10 sixes. He reached 50 off 42 balls, 100 off 75, 150 off 97 and 200 off 114. The ICC calls it a record-breaking double century. Strike rate for the innings is 174.1.

The last column is our arithmetic. Each 50 came faster than the one before. The final 50 took 17 balls.

The record is reported, not yet confirmed on an official list

A match report says the 114-ball double hundred beats the record set by India's Shubman Gill last month. The ICC story calls the innings record-breaking but does not name the old figure. We have not seen an official records page, so the record is marked reported.

Two other firsts are reported. It is England's first ODI double hundred. It is also the first double hundred in an ODI by a player on the losing side. Both come from the match report, not the PCB or the ICC records page.

Brook added 159 with Root and 185 with Jacks

England built the total in two big stands. Brook and Joe Root added 159, with Root making 69 off 66 balls. Brook then added 185 with Will Jacks, who made 66 not out off 30 balls. Tom Banton added 50 off 51 balls.

England's stands: Brook and Root 159, Brook and Jacks 185

Sources differ on how Brook ended. The ICC story calls the 202 unbeaten, while a match report says he was caught at deep point off the last ball. We do not state either, and the PCB scorecard would settle it.

Brook joins a very small club of all-format scorers

The match report says Brook became only the second player after Chris Gayle to have a Test triple hundred, an ODI double hundred and a T20 international century. We did not check this against an official list, so it stays as reported.

For Pakistan fans the point is practical. Brook is England's key batter for the Pakistan v England match in Lahore on 25 October. Pakistan's bowlers will have this innings on video.

England lost despite the highest total in the series

England's 429 is the highest total of the series so far, but they lost two wickets short of defending it. They now have 0 points from two matches. Our table after the Sri Lanka win shows where that leaves them.

Harry Brook scored 202 off 116 balls for England at Rawalpindi on 22 October 2026
  1. England bat first and score 429 for 4.
  2. Brook passes 200 in 114 balls.
  3. Sri Lanka chase 430 and finish on 430 for 8.
  4. England stay on 0 points.

How to read a big innings like this one

A double hundred in 116 balls is judged by pace and by what the innings did for the team. Brook scored 202 of England's 429, which is 47 per cent of the total. That share is our arithmetic. The rest came from Root, Jacks, Banton and extras.

Pace matters because England had only 50 overs to use. Brook's 150 came in 97 balls and his last 50 in 17. That pace is what carried a total near 430 on a good batting pitch.

The result matters more for the table. England lost, so the 202 earned nothing in points. It does count in run rate, because England scored 429 in 50 overs, which is 8.58 an over by our sum. Sri Lanka answered with 430 in 49.5 overs, so the gain was cancelled out. The match shows why a team needs both batters and bowlers in a tournament table.

If you follow the series, watch two things on 25 October. First, whether Pakistan's opening bowlers get Brook early. Second, whether England change their attack after Curran's 2 for 103. Neither is known yet.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

On 22 October 2026 we read the ICC story on the match and a full match report. We could not open the PCB scorecard on pcb.com.pk, so records, the exact dismissal and the all-format claim are unverified against an official list. The strike rate and the ball gaps between milestones are our own arithmetic.
