Sri Lanka chose to field first, as reported. It was a day-night match, played under lights at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The start time was 1 pm Pakistan time, as set out in the start times for every tri-series match.

England set 430 with a double hundred from Harry Brook

England scored 429 for 4. Harry Brook made 202 off 116 balls, Joe Root 69 off 66, Will Jacks 66 not out off 30 and Tom Banton 50 off 51. Brook added 159 with Root and 185 with Jacks. The total is the highest we have seen in this series.

Brook's innings has its own report in our page on the Brook double hundred. The short version is that England looked safe at 429. They were not.

Sri Lanka lost two early wickets, then Rathnayake took control

Sri Lanka were 24 for 2 early, after Kusal Mendis was run out without facing a ball. Pavan Rathnayake then added 166 for the third wicket with Avishka Fernando. Rathnayake made 130 off 106 balls and was named player of the match.

Sri Lanka's chase: Rathnayake 130, Avishka Fernando 97, Shanaka 97, Liyanage 61 not out

Avishka Fernando made 97 off 83 balls. Dasun Shanaka then hit 97 off 50 balls with six fours and eight sixes, and the fourth wicket added 133 in 79 balls. Liyanage finished with 61 not out off 27 balls. Our pages on Rathnayake's hundred and the Shanaka and Liyanage finish cover those innings.

The chase is the second highest in ODI history

Reports call Sri Lanka's 430 the second-highest successful chase in ODI history. Only South Africa's chase against Australia in 2006 is higher. We could not confirm the full list on an official ICC page, so treat the ranking as reported.

One thing to note: sources do not agree on the exact South Africa figure. The ICC story gives it as 434, while other lists show a target of 435 and a final score of 438. That gap does not change Sri Lanka's place at number two.

England's bowlers paid heavily in the chase

Josh Tongue took 3 for 79 and Sam Curran took 2 for 103 in 9 overs. A match report says Curran's figures are the worst by an England bowler in an ODI. We have not verified that record against an official list, so it stays as reported.

  1. Sri Lanka were 24 for 2 and England were on top.
  2. Rathnayake and Avishka Fernando put on 166 for the third wicket.
  3. Shanaka hit eight sixes in a fourth wicket stand of 133 in 79 balls.
  4. Liyanage hit a six off the penultimate ball to finish the chase.

The table now has Pakistan on 4 points, Sri Lanka on 2

Pakistan have 4 points from two wins, Sri Lanka 2 from one win and England 0 after two defeats. Three league matches remain before the final on 31 October. Our points table after 22 October has the net run rates.

Tri-series points: Pakistan 4, Sri Lanka 2, England 0

Next up is Pakistan against England at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, 25 October, the day of the Pink Day match. The full fixture list is in the tri-series schedule.

On 22 October 2026 we read the ICC match story and a full published match report. The two agree on the scores, the margin and the main innings. The PCB website (pcb.com.pk) did not give us a scorecard, so we could not check balls faced, overs or records against it. We did not verify the full list of highest chases, and the table figures are from reports.
