HBL Cash Over Counter: Receive Remittance by CNIC up to Rs 1.2 Million, Plus the Konnect Mobile Option

HBL Cash Over Counter lets your family collect a remittance in cash at any HBL branch with the remittance reference number and their original CNIC, free of charge, up to Rs 1,200,000 per transaction. If they would rather not visit a branch, HBL's Konnect Home Remittance Account takes the money on their mobile number instead. Below are both routes, the partners abroad that send into each, the limits, and what to check before going to the branch.

Cash Over Counter pays up to Rs 1.2 million at any HBL branch, free

HBL Cash Over Counter is part of HBL FastTransfer. The receiver collects cash at any HBL branch across Pakistan, up to Rs 1,200,000 per transaction, and HBL says the service is free. An SMS tells the receiver when the money is ready.

HBL's page says the money can be collected from more than 1,600 branches. HBL's Konnect overview page now says HBL has over 1,700 branches, so the payout page may simply be behind. Ask your nearest branch if you are unsure it pays out.

The branch needs the reference number and your original CNIC

Take two things to the counter: the remittance reference number from the sender, and your original, valid CNIC. For the SMS alert, the sender must enter your mobile number in the 92 format with 12 digits, such as 923001234567.

The mobile number format matters more than people think. A number written as 0300 or with a missing digit means no SMS, and you are left guessing whether the money has arrived. Give the sender your number already written as 92 followed by the 10 digits after the first zero.

1. Give the sender your full name exactly as on your CNIC, and your mobile number as 923XXXXXXXXX.
2. Wait for HBL's SMS saying the payment is ready.
3. Get the remittance reference number from the sender.
4. Go to any HBL branch with your original CNIC.
5. Give the reference number, collect the cash and keep the slip.

The Konnect Home Remittance Account takes money on your mobile number

Open a Konnect Home Remittance Account at a Konnect Shop with your CNIC and fingerprints. Your account number is your mobile number, so the sender abroad writes that number on the payment form in place of an account number. Both sides get an SMS when it lands.

The limits are set for remittance receivers. You can withdraw up to Rs 50,000 a day and Rs 500,000 a month in cash, keep up to Rs 1,500,000 in the account, and debit up to Rs 100,000 from it. HBL says there is no daily limit on how often you receive.

HBL adds a reward. Receivers get Rs 2 of mobile airtime for each US dollar received, which HBL also states as Rs 200 for every $100. Receiving is free, but cash withdrawal at a Konnect Shop or ATM is charged. HBL also says a sender may be charged on transfers under $200, depending on the partner. HBL lists its sending partners abroad by country

HBL names its partners for the Konnect Home Remittance Account by country: six banks in Saudi Arabia, seven partners in the UAE, three banks in Qatar, four in Oman, two in Bahrain, five in the UK, one in Kenya and MoneyGram in the USA.

Check the status before you travel, and know where to complain

HBL has a Remittance Tracker on its website and an SMS alert for Cash Over Counter. Use either before you travel to a branch. If the money is late, the sender should first chase the bank or exchange company abroad where they paid.
