Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi runs its OPD from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 1pm on Friday, under the Punjab government's timing order for teaching hospitals. Its main, gynae and children's emergencies stay open round the clock. Holy Family Hospital OPD runs 8am to 4pm, and to 1pm on Friday

Punjab's Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department set one OPD schedule for its teaching hospitals: 8am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, including a lunch and prayer break, and 8am to 1pm on Friday. Sunday is emergency only.

The order is notification No. SO(ME)7-6/2021, dated 23 December 2021, which we read on 10 October 2026. The health department's website did not open for us on 24 October, so we could not recheck it that day.

Come early. The hospital saw 329,485 OPD patients in 2024, and that was with the OPD shut in January for rebuilding.

Holy Family has three separate emergencies

The 2024 annual report lists a main emergency, a gynae emergency and a children's emergency. Go to the right one: a woman in labour goes to gynae, a sick child to the paediatric emergency, and an injury or adult illness to the main emergency.

The emergencies saw 254,566 patients in 2024. The report itself says patient numbers keep rising while staff remain short, so expect waiting. For a serious case anywhere in Rawalpindi, call 1122 for a free ambulance first.

All 21 departments at Holy Family Hospital

The hospital's 2024 report lists 21 departments, from two medicine and two surgery units to newer neurology and endocrinology departments. It also has a burn unit with its own intensive care, a nephrology unit and a liver and gastroenterology department.

Medical Unit I was chosen as the first centre for hepatitis B and C diagnosis and treatment under the Prime Minister's Hepatitis Control Programme, the report says. The hospital also has a blood bank and a thalassaemia centre. In 2024 it set up specialised OPD clinics under the name RMU Ambulatory Care OPD Clinics.

MRI, CT and endoscopy are done on site

Holy Family lists MRI, CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound, colour Doppler, mammography and interventional radiology. Other tests include endoscopy, ERCP, echocardiography, exercise tolerance tests and automated visual field testing for the eyes.

The pathology department has chemistry, haematology, microbiology and histopathology sections. If a doctor orders a scan, ask at radiology for the date. Big scanners have queues, and the report notes that some equipment is overburdened.

How to see a doctor at Holy Family Hospital

Bring your CNIC, old prescriptions and reports, and a list of current medicines. A referral slip from a basic health unit or a tehsil hospital helps, but you can also register directly at the OPD counter.

1. Reach the hospital on Holy Family Road, Satellite Town, before 9am, Monday to Saturday.
2. Register at the OPD counter with your CNIC and get a slip for the right department.
3. Wait at that department's clinic for your turn.
4. Take any test to pathology or radiology, and return to the doctor with the result.
5. For an emergency, go straight to the main, gynae or children's emergency instead.

Rawalpindi has two other RMU teaching hospitals. Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Murree Road has the psychiatry institute and kidney transplants, and the old DHQ, now Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital, handles medical boards and neurosurgery.

Complaints and the Sehat Card at Holy Family

Neither RMU's page nor the 2024 report mentions the Sehat Card, so ask at the admission desk before a planned operation. For a complaint about treatment, behaviour or a demand for money, you can go to the Punjab Healthcare Commission or the Citizen Portal.
