Jazz SIM Not Working in Pakistan: Find the Cause and Fix It
Jazz SIM not working? Find the cause from what your phone shows, then fix it: PUK by SMS to 7023, settings on *444*6*5#, or a Rs 550 replacement SIM card.

If your Jazz SIM stops working, restart the phone and test the SIM in a second phone. If it works there, check your phone's PTA registration on *8484#. If it fails in every phone, the SIM or number is the problem: a replacement SIM costs Rs 550 at any Jazz franchise, issued on the spot after a thumb scan.
A dead SIM usually happens at the worst time, when an OTP is due or a bank is calling. Most causes fall into five groups, and each has a different fix. We read Jazz's FAQs and its self-service code list on 10 October 2026. Here is how to tell which problem you have, and the code or counter that fixes it.
Find the cause from what your phone shows
The message on your screen tells you most of what you need. "No SIM" points to the card itself. "No service" points to the number, the signal or the phone. A PIN or PUK prompt is a lock. Calls working with no internet is a settings or bundle problem.
| What you see | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| "No SIM" or "Insert SIM" | Loose, dirty or damaged SIM | Reseat it, then try another phone |
| "No service" in every phone | Number blocked or SIM faulty | Call 111 from another Jazz phone |
| Works in other phones, not yours | Phone not registered with PTA | Check on *8484# or DIRBS |
| Asks for a PUK code | SIM locked after wrong PIN | Get the PUK by SMS to 7023 |
| Calls work, internet does not | Settings, bundle or 4G mode | Dial *444*6*5# for settings |
| Dead after months of no use | Disconnected for inactivity | Visit a franchise quickly |

Quick fixes take ten minutes and cost nothing
Start with the free checks, in this order, and test after each one. They clear a large share of problems before you spend Rs 550 or a trip to a franchise. Stop as soon as the signal comes back.
- Turn on airplane mode for 30 seconds, then off.
- Restart the phone fully.
- Take the SIM out, wipe the gold contacts with a dry cloth, and put it back.
- On a dual SIM phone, move the Jazz SIM to slot 1.
- Put the SIM in another phone. If it works there, your phone is the problem.

If the SIM works in another phone, check whether your handset is registered with PTA. Jazz lists *8484# for handset registration and links PTA's DIRBS system at dirbs.pta.gov.pk. An unregistered phone can lose service on every Pakistani SIM. Finding the IMEI, the phone's 15 digit serial number, is covered in checking an IMEI number in Pakistan.
A PUK lock clears with an SMS to 7023
Three wrong PIN entries lock the SIM and ask for a PUK, an 8 digit unlock code. Jazz says to send your complete Jazz number by SMS to 7023 from your Jazz number. Jazz then sends the code. After entering it, Jazz says to set your PIN to 0000.
There is a catch. The SMS must come from your Jazz number, which is the one that is locked. Put the SIM in another phone? It will still ask for the PUK. In that case call the 111 helpline from a family member's Jazz phone, or visit a franchise.
Take care with guesses. Jazz warns that entering a wrong PUK can block the SIM for good, so you would need a replacement. Contacts saved on the SIM may be lost, and Jazz says it keeps no backup. A SIM that is blocked rather than locked is a different case, set out in reactivating a self-blocked Jazz SIM.
Calls work but internet does not: reset settings and 4G
If calls and SMS work but data does not, the SIM is fine. Jazz sends internet settings by SMS: dial *444*6*5# on prepaid, or send a blank SMS to 7342 on postpaid. The access point name (APN), the setting that connects your phone to Jazz's internet, should be "Jazz".
Next, check you still have a bundle. Jazz says data without a bundle is charged at a base rate of Rs 5 per MB, so an empty balance stops internet even when the signal is full. Then set the phone to 4G or LTE. An old 3G SIM will give slow data and dropped calls on any tower. How to confirm and replace one is in checking if your SIM is 4G.
Blocked, stolen or unused numbers need Jazz itself
Some problems only Jazz can fix, because the number has been stopped on its system. Each has a separate route. Bring your original CNIC to a franchise, because almost every fix needs a thumb scan.
| Situation | What Jazz says to do | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| SIM damaged or lost | Replacement at a retailer, franchise or Experience Centre | Rs 550, prepaid or postpaid |
| SIM stolen, then found | Dial *8822# to restore, or call 111 | Free |
| Postpaid cut for non-payment | Dial *6767# to restore on a promise to pay | Not stated |
| Prepaid unused for 90 days | May be permanently blocked and re-issued | Act before 90 days |
| Blocked for biometric re-verification | Thumb scan at a franchise | See link below |

The 90 day rule matters most. In its section on voluntary blocking, Jazz says a prepaid number should be reactivated within 90 days of its last charged activity, such as an outgoing call, SMS or internet use. After that, the number may be permanently blocked and given to a new customer. If your SIM went dead after a long gap, go to a franchise straight away. The general steps are in reactivating an expired SIM.
Numbers blocked on PTA's instructions for missed biometric re-verification follow PTA's route, set out in restoring a SIM blocked for biometric re-verification. Jazz also says SIMs of Afghan refugees blocked on PTA's instructions cannot be restored, and no new number can be issued to them.
Common questions
Why does my Jazz SIM say no service?
Test it in another phone first. If it fails there too, the number may be blocked or the SIM faulty, so call 111 from another Jazz phone. If it works elsewhere, check your phone on *8484#.
How much is a new Jazz SIM on the same number?
Jazz lists SIM replacement at Rs 550 for prepaid and postpaid. It is issued immediately after biometric verification at a retailer, franchise or Experience Centre.
How do I get my Jazz PUK code?
Send your complete Jazz number by SMS to 7023 from that number. If the SIM is locked and cannot send, call 111 from another Jazz phone or visit a franchise.
How long can a Jazz SIM stay unused?
Jazz says a prepaid number should be used within 90 days of its last charged activity. After that it may be permanently blocked and re-issued.
Can I get a Jazz eSIM instead of a new SIM card?
Yes. Jazz lists an eSIM at Rs 1,500 for a new or existing number, issued at a franchise or Experience Centre after a thumb scan and QR scan.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We checked on 10 October 2026. The Rs 550 replacement, Rs 1,500 eSIM, PUK by SMS to 7023, PIN 0000, internet settings, the 90 day rule, the 111 helpline and the Afghan refugee note are from Jazz's FAQs. The *8484#, *8822#, *6767# and 7342 codes are from Jazz's self-service dial code list. The Rs 5 per MB base rate is from Jazz's bundle pages. We did not test any code on a locked or blocked SIM ourselves.
