Foreign tourists going to Chitral, Swat, Dir or other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can register their trip online on the KP Tourism registration form. It has two versions: one for a single visitor and one for a group run by a tour company. The form we opened asks for no fee and no account.

The form belongs to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), the provincial tourism body. It asks for passport and visa details and a city by city plan of the trip. KP's tourism secretary described it in July 2025 as an online NOC system for foreign tourists. NOC stands for "no objection certificate", a permission letter from the authorities.

This matters to Pakistani hosts as much as to visitors. If a foreign friend, relative or client is coming to stay with you in Swat or Chitral, you are probably the one who will fill this in. We opened both versions of the form on 3 October 2026 and read what each field asks for. We did not submit it.

KP runs one online form for foreign tourists

KPCTA's "Tourist Registration Form" at kptourism.com/tourist takes a foreign visitor's passport, visa, contact details and travel plan. Group tours also give the company, guide, driver and vehicle details and upload licences and a passenger list.

When the province announced it in July 2025, the tourism secretary said it was for visitors on tourist category visas. He said foreign mountaineers and trekkers would be added later. He also said the form would replace paperwork for permission to travel to Upper Dir, Chitral, Swat and other northern areas. Those statements were reported at the time. KPCTA's own page does not repeat them, and the form itself uses the word "registration", not NOC.

The province also promised a list of approved travel companies and guides on the same portal. We did not find it on 3 October 2026.

Steps to fill the KP Tourism foreign tourist registration form online

Documents to prepare before you open the form

An individual visitor needs a passport number, visa number, email, mobile number and hotel address. A group needs the tour company's licence, the guide's licence, the driver's CNIC, the vehicle number and two PDFs: a passenger list and a full itinerary.

Uploads take a PDF or an image. Keep the passenger list as one PDF, with every name spelled exactly as in the passport. A spelling mismatch is the kind of small thing that causes a long stop at a checkpost.

Documents needed for KP foreign tourist registration for individuals and groups

Fill the KP tourist registration form in six steps

Open kptourism.com/tourist, choose Individual Tourist or Group Tour, fill in the identity and contact fields, add every destination with dates, attach the files and press Submit. A message on screen tells you whether it went through.

  1. Open kptourism.com/tourist on a phone or computer.
  2. Pick "Individual Tourist" for one visitor, or "Group Tour" if a licensed company runs the trip.
  3. Choose the visitor's country from the list, then enter the passport, visa, email and mobile details.
  4. Under "Add City-Wise Itinerary", enter the first destination with check-in and check-out dates. Use "Add more destinations" for each further stop.
  5. Write a short description of the trip and attach the files the form asks for.
  6. Press Submit and take a screenshot of the message that appears.

Each destination box allows 150 characters, so write "Chitral town, Kalash valleys" rather than a paragraph. The form refuses to send if no country is picked, if gender is missing for an individual, or if a group leaves out any of its four files.

Keep that screenshot and a printed copy of the itinerary with the visitor, next to the passport and the other papers on a northern areas travel checklist. Police at checkposts on the way to Chitral or Kumrat may ask where a foreigner is going and where they will stay. Having the same answer on paper as on the form keeps it quick.

Federal visa and police rules still apply

KP registration does not replace a Pakistani visa. The visa comes from the federal government, and some nationalities must also register with police. Border areas have their own limits, so check those before you plan a route near a frontier.

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports sets these rules. We read its visa policy page on 3 October 2026. It says:

  • A tourist visa for List-A countries is valid for three months, with a three month stay and two entries.
  • Regional passport offices can extend a tourist visa up to six months in total, including the first visa.
  • Deputy Commissioners in Gilgit and Skardu can extend a tourist's visa by three months, with one re-entry.
  • Most foreigners do not need to register with police. Nationals of the List-B countries do, along with anyone whose passport is stamped at the airport with an order to report.
  • Police registration is done at the Foreigner Registration Branch in the office of each District Police Officer.

A host has one more duty. If the visitor rents a room or a house from you, rather than staying as a guest, KP law also makes you register a tenant with police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Hotels handle this for their own guests.

Border belts stay closed without special permission

Areas close to Pakistan's borders with China and Afghanistan, and along the Line of Control, remain restricted for foreigners. The Ministry of Interior opened most of Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir in 2019, but not these belts.

The 2019 decision was announced by the federal government and widely reported. It kept closed a 10 mile belt along the China and Afghanistan borders, including the Wakhan side of Chitral, and a 5 mile belt along the Line of Control. We could not open the Ministry of Interior's website on 3 October 2026; it refused our connection. So treat those distances as reported, and confirm with the district administration before going near any border.

Upper Chitral reaches the Afghan border, so a trek near Broghil or the Wakhan side is exactly where this matters. Ask the Deputy Commissioner's office in the district. If you are carrying on into Gilgit-Baltistan, the rules there are run by GB, and its Tourist Police on 1422 can help; here is how to report a tourist complaint in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Warning that border areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain restricted for foreign tourists

For help inside KP, the Tourist Facilitation Hub answers on 1422, round the clock. Save it in the visitor's phone with Rescue 1122 and the other emergency helpline numbers.

Common questions

Do foreign tourists need an NOC to visit Swat or Chitral?

KP asks foreign tourists to register their trip on kptourism.com/tourist, which the province called an online NOC system in July 2025. Border belts need separate permission. Confirm with KPCTA on 1422 before you travel.

Is there a fee for KP foreign tourist registration?

The form we opened on 3 October 2026 had no payment step and needed no account. KPCTA has not published a fee for it.

Can a Pakistani host fill the form for a foreign guest?

Yes, the individual form only asks for the visitor's details, so a host can fill it. Use the visitor's own passport number, visa number and a phone number that will be answered during the trip.

What PDFs does a group tour need?

Four uploads: the company licence, the guide licence, a passenger list with each person's passport and visa, and the full itinerary. The form will not send without all four.

Which foreigners must register with police in Pakistan?

Nationals of the List-B countries on the immigration department's list, and anyone told at the airport to report. They register at the Foreigner Registration Branch in the District Police Officer's office.

Can a foreign tourist extend a Pakistani visa in the north?

Yes. The immigration policy lets Deputy Commissioners in Gilgit and Skardu extend a tourist visa by three months with one re-entry, charging the policy fee.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 3 October 2026. The registration form, its two versions, every field, the 150 character destination limit, the upload types, the rules that stop it sending, and the absence of a fee or login step are read on kptourism.com/tourist and in the page's own code; the country list loads from KPCTA's live server. The 1422 helpline is read on KPCTA's Travel updates page. Tourist visa validity, extensions by regional passport offices and by the Deputy Commissioners of Gilgit and Skardu, and the police registration rules for List-B nationals are read on the immigration department's visa policy page, last modified 14 September 2026. The July 2025 description of the form as an online NOC for Upper Dir, Chitral and Swat, and the plan to add mountaineers, are reported statements by KP's tourism secretary that KPCTA's site does not repeat. The 2019 border belt distances are reported; the Ministry of Interior website refused our connection. We did not submit the form.
