Engro Holdings, United Bank and Hub Power cost 507.66 points
Three heavy shares did a quarter of the damage. Engro Holdings fell 2.25 per cent to Rs 250.11 and took off 185.51 points. United Bank fell 1.38 per cent to Rs 400.04, a loss of 174.71 points. Hub Power fell 2.18 per cent to Rs 190.64, costing 147.44 points.

Habib Bank lost 136.41 points as it fell 2.23 per cent to Rs 285.75. Pakistan Telecommunication fell 9.91 per cent, from Rs 52.25 to Rs 47.07, and cost 109.60 points. Its 12.1 million shares were the second highest volume in the index. The five biggest drags together took 753.67 points, or 37.6 per cent of the net fall. Fauji Fertilizer, the biggest share at a 9.17 per cent weight, slipped only 0.65 per cent but still cost 97.65 points. All the weights are in the KSE-100 companies and weights.
Only a handful of shares added points
The gainers were small. Unilever Pakistan Foods rose 4.36 per cent to Rs 29,103.21 and added 22.61 points. MCB Bank rose to Rs 379.66 and added 21.89 points. Thatta Cement added 9.52, Nestle Pakistan 6.59 and Air Link 5.54.

The five best shares added just 66.15 points between them. That is less than the 72.93 points lost by Attock Refinery alone, which fell 4.22 per cent to Rs 1,089.60.
Twenty seven index shares carried an XD tag
In the portal's table, 27 of the 100 shares had "XD" on the end of their symbol. XD means ex-dividend: a buyer from that day no longer gets the dividend already announced, and the price usually drops by about the dividend amount. These 27 shares have a combined weight of 31.41 per cent, and 25 of them fell.
They account for 773.24 points of the day's loss. That includes United Bank, Hub Power, OGDC, Pakistan Petroleum, Pakistan State Oil and Attock Refinery. We could not see each dividend amount on the table, so we cannot say how much of each fall is only the dividend coming off. The tag is explained in the guide to KSE-100 movers, and the payout list for the dividend index is in PSX Dividend 20 companies.
Across the whole regular market, the portal shows 367.1 million shares traded in 307,881 trades, worth Rs 18.00 billion. The portal's circuit breaker page also listed 12 shares at their upper limit and 4 at their lower limit. We found no reason for the fall stated by PSX or by any listed company, so we give none.
