A Pakistani passport is not on Kuwait's tourist e-visa list, so most Pakistanis visit Kuwait on a family visit visa that a relative living there applies for. Kuwait's Ministry of Interior lists the visit visa fee at 3 Kuwaiti dinars (KWD), with a fine of 10 KWD for every day you overstay.

The question comes up every time a son or daughter settles in Kuwait and wants the parents to come over. Visit visa rules differ a lot across the Gulf, and advice copied from a Dubai or Riyadh trip does not work here.

We read Kuwait's official visa portal, run by its Ministry of Interior, on 9 October 2026, including its eligibility lists, instructions and fee table. Here is what a Pakistani can and cannot do.

Pakistan is not on Kuwait's tourist e-visa list

Kuwait lets nationals of a fixed list of countries get a tourist visa online or on arrival at Kuwait International Airport. Pakistan is not on that list. A Pakistani living in Pakistan cannot simply buy a Kuwait tourist e-visa.

Kuwait visit visa routes for Pakistanis: family visit through a resident sponsor, tourist e-visa only for GCC residents in eligible jobs

The list on the portal includes the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, Türkiye, Malaysia, Singapore and most of Europe. When a nationality is not eligible, the portal's own message says the applicant "is not eligible for applying online e-visa, however you can apply through Kuwait embassy".

There is one exception. If you live in another Gulf country on a residence permit, you may qualify for the tourist e-visa through your job instead of your passport.

Pakistanis living in the Gulf can use the tourist e-visa if their job qualifies

Kuwait opens the tourist e-visa to residents of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in listed professions. Your GCC residence permit must show the profession and be valid for 6 months from the date you enter Kuwait.

The professions Kuwait lists are:

  • doctors, pharmacists, engineers and university professors
  • lawyers, judges, prosecutors and consultants
  • journalists and media professionals, and pilots
  • systems analysts and computer programmers
  • managers, businessmen, and owners, managers and representatives of companies
  • members of the diplomatic corps

So a Pakistani engineer working in Dubai or Riyadh may qualify. A Pakistani driver or labourer in the same city, on the same passport, will not. Documents are a passport copy, a copy of the GCC residence showing the profession, a confirmed ticket, a hotel booking and a recent photo.

A relative in Kuwait can sponsor a family visit visa

For most Pakistanis the route is a family visit visa. The relative living in Kuwait applies on the Kuwait Visa portal using their Civil ID, Kuwait's resident identity card, and adds you as a family member.

Steps for a Kuwait family visit visa for a Pakistani relative on the Ministry of Interior Kuwait Visa portal

The portal lists these relations: father, mother, spouse, son or daughter, and "others". It asks for proof of the relationship, such as a birth certificate or a marriage certificate. A sponsor who does not qualify sees the message "Your sponsor is not eligible for family visa sponsorship". The portal does not publish the sponsor's salary or job rules, so ask the Residency Affairs office if you are unsure.

  1. The sponsor in Kuwait creates an account on the Kuwait Visa portal and completes their profile with their Civil ID.
  2. The sponsor adds you as a family member and selects the relation.
  3. Upload your passport, a recent photo with a white background, and the birth or marriage certificate.
  4. Add the travel ticket and say where you will stay, with the sponsor or in a hotel.
  5. Submit, then pay the fee once the application is accepted.
  6. Track the status in the account and by email.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months, and Kuwait says other travel documents are not accepted. If your passport is near expiry, renew it first. The official Pakistani passport fees are often misquoted, so check them before you go to the office.

The Kuwait visit visa costs 3 KWD

Kuwait's fee table lists 3 KWD for family, tourism, business, private and government visit visas. A transit visa is 2 KWD. Fees are collected in Kuwaiti dinars and are not refunded.

Tourism visit3 KWD10 KWD a day
Business visit3 KWD10 KWD a day
Multiple entry3 KWD plus 1 KWD a month10 KWD a day
Transit2 KWD10 KWD a day

The portal says the fee is not collected unless the application is accepted. Tourist visas typically take 1 to 2 business days. Kuwait does not give a time for family visits.

Kuwait's own pages differ on how long you can stay

A single entry Kuwait visit permit must be used within 30 days of issue. The length of stay is less clear. The portal shows 90 days for a family visit in one place and 30 days in another.

Kuwait visit visa limits: 3 KWD fee, use within 30 days, 10 KWD a day overstay fine, no work allowed

The portal's home page cards say a family visit allows a stay of no more than 90 days from entry. Its general visit visa instructions say no more than 30 days. Tourist visas are 90 days in both places. Until Kuwait clears this up, plan for 30 days on a family visit and check the date printed on your permit.

Overstaying costs 10 KWD a day and can lead to a ban on entering Kuwait again, the ministry says. A visit visa holder is not allowed to work. People who take a visit visa hoping to find a job are breaking that rule, and a real Kuwait work visa needs an employer from the start.

For help in Kuwait, the portal lists the General Administration of Residence Affairs, Electronic Services Department, in Dajeej. It receives visitors Sunday to Thursday, 8am to 2pm Kuwait time, which is 10am to 4pm in Pakistan. Before you fly, also read the FIA document checklist that stops offloading.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 9 October 2026. We read Kuwait's Ministry of Interior Kuwait Visa portal, including its tourist visa instructions, the list of countries eligible for the e-visa or visa on arrival, the GCC professions list, visit visa instructions, fee table, terms and conditions, FAQ and contact page. The portal gives two different stay limits for family visits, and we have reported both. It does not publish the sponsor's eligibility rules, so those are not included.
