The Rs 9,000 Fast Track Passport Fee Everyone Quotes Is Wrong. It Is Rs 12,500.

The full fee tables from the passport authority's own site, plus the NADRA charge that is not in any table and three changes dated 1 July.

Official Pakistani passport fees for machine readable and e-Passport categories

Search for the Pakistani passport fee and you will find Rs 9,000 quoted as the fast track rate for a standard passport. It is not. Fast track on a 36 page five year machine readable passport is Rs 12,500.

Rs 9,000 is a real number, it is just attached to two other things: the 100 page five year normal MRP, and the 36 page five year e-Passport. Turning up at the bank with the wrong figure is a wasted morning, so we went to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports and took the tables off their own site.

Fast track, which is a separate category

Revised with effect from 8 May 2024. Delivery is four working days, changed from the earlier commitment with effect from 3 February 2023 because of application volume. Fast track is only available in certain cities.

e-Passport, and the thing most people get wrong

Fast track is not available for the e-Passport. If you need a passport in days rather than weeks, that currently means a machine readable passport, not the chipped one.

PagesValidityNormalUrgent
365 yearsRs 9,000Rs 15,000

725 yearsRs 16,500Rs 27,000
7210 yearsRs 24,750Rs 40,500

Note there is no 100 page option on the e-Passport. The e-Passport carries a contactless chip storing the holder's biometric and personal data with a digital signature, and it has been available from all field offices since 16 August 2023, having started at headquarters and in diplomatic categories before that.

You can work any of these through our passport fee calculator if you would rather not read across a table. If you are still deciding which document you need, the guide to passport types covers the categories, the application guide covers the process end to end, and passport tracking covers what to do once it is submitted.

The charge that is not in any table

For Executive Passport Offices and Passport Processing Counters, NADRA's service charges are payable separately at the office itself, on top of the passport fee you paid through the app or portal.

This is the single most common surprise in the process. The fee you deposit is not the total if you are using an EPO or PPC, and the additional amount is collected at the counter.

Three changes dated 1 July 2026

DGI&P's own homepage carries three announcements dated 1 July 2026, and between them they describe a fairly large shift in how passports work:

  • E-Passport replacing the ordinary passport
  • Cashless passport fee payment
  • Home delivery service, passport at your doorstep

We are giving you the headings rather than the detail, and we want to be straight about why. Those three announcements are published as images rather than as text on the department's site, so we could not read their contents to tell you what the transition timetable is, whether cash is being withdrawn entirely at bank counters, or what home delivery costs and covers.

If the ordinary MRP is genuinely being replaced by the e-Passport, that changes which of the tables above you should be reading, and it is the question to put to your Regional Passport Office before you deposit a fee.

Passport changes announced in Pakistan from 1 July 2026

How to pay

Fees can be paid online through the Passport Fee Asaan mobile app or the e-Payment web portal, or by challan at designated National Bank branches. Whichever route you use, what the passport office wants to see is proof: the original paid bank challan receipt, or the e-payment confirmation with the PSID number.

One useful detail buried in the department's own e-Passport page: the fee is the last step of the application, so you can review before depositing, and an application can be converted from normal to urgent by paying the difference online rather than starting again.

What to take with you

For applicants aged 18 and above: proof of fee payment, original valid CNIC or NICOP with a photocopy, the previous passport in original with a photocopy if you have one, an NOC from the department for government, semi government and autonomous body employees, and the foreign passport with a photocopy for dual nationals. For a lost passport, the police report quoting the previous passport number.

For minors, NADRA's revised policy applies: children aged 10 and above need an original updated Child Registration Certificate carrying fingerprints and photograph, or a Juvenile Card, with a photocopy. Under 10, an original CRC or Form B, or a Family Registration Certificate, with a photocopy.
