LPG Sellers Say Price Rose Rs 100 a Kg in Pakistan After Iran Crossing Shut, OGRA Cap Still Rs 3,296
LPG sellers say prices rose Rs 100 a kg after the Rahimdad-250 crossing with Iran shut. OGRA's cap is still Rs 279.34 a kg. See the gap and what to do now.

Short answer: LPG sellers say the shop price of LPG jumped by about Rs 100 a kilogram over the weekend of 17 and 18 October 2026, after the Rahimdad-250 crossing with Iran closed. The legal maximum has not changed. OGRA's cap for October is still Rs 279.34 a kg, or Rs 3,296.23 for an 11.8 kg home cylinder.
The LPG industry made the claim on 19 October and asked the government to change how LPG is priced. We checked the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) LPG page on 20 October 2026, and the October notification is still the latest one. So anyone charging more than Rs 279.34 a kg is above the notified maximum, whatever is happening at the border.
OGRA's LPG cap is still Rs 3,296.23 for an 11.8 kg cylinder
The official maximum price of LPG in Pakistan for October 2026 is Rs 279.34 a kilogram. That is Rs 3,296.23 for an 11.8 kg domestic cylinder. OGRA set it on 30 September, effective 1 October, and no new notification has replaced it.

The cap covers the whole chain. OGRA's notification includes the producer price, the marketing, distribution and transport margins, and sales tax. The October LPG price sets out every line of it. Sellers may charge less than the cap. They may not charge more.
The cap has risen every month since July. The 11.8 kg cylinder went from Rs 2,848.91 in July to Rs 3,000.92 in August, Rs 3,052.09 in September and Rs 3,296.23 in October. That is Rs 447.32 more in three months.
Shops already charged Rs 5,154 for a cylinder before the weekend
The gap between the cap and the shop price is not new. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) recorded an average of Rs 5,154.16 for an 11.67 kg LPG cylinder across 17 cities in the week to 15 October. That was before the weekend rise the industry describes.

| Measure | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| OGRA cap, 11.8 kg cylinder | Rs 3,296.23 | OGRA notification, October 2026 |
| OGRA cap worked out for 11.67 kg | Rs 3,259.90 | Our arithmetic at Rs 279.34 a kg |
| PBS shop average, 11.67 kg, week to 8 October | Rs 5,132.47 | PBS weekly SPI |
| PBS shop average, 11.67 kg, week to 15 October | Rs 5,154.16 | PBS weekly SPI |
| PBS shop average, a year earlier | Rs 3,050.70 | PBS weekly SPI |
On our arithmetic, the PBS average is Rs 1,894.26 above the cap for the same 11.67 kg, or 58 per cent more. It works out to about Rs 441.66 a kg. The yearly rise in the PBS series is 68.95 per cent. The weekly SPI for 15 October has the full list of items.
Sellers blame the Rahimdad-250 crossing and the Iran route
The LPG Marketing Association says the weekend rise followed the closure of the Rahimdad-250 crossing with Iran. Its vice chairman, Mohammad Ali Haider, said on 19 October that prices rose by Rs 100 a kg. He said more than 4,500 tonnes of LPG are stuck on the Iranian side.
These are the industry's figures, reported on 19 October. We could not confirm them with OGRA, the Petroleum Division or the Ministry of Commerce, which had not published anything on the closure when we checked.
- Demand: the association puts Pakistan's use at about 2 million tonnes a year, 30 per cent made locally and 70 per cent imported.
- Iran routes: it says nearly 1 million tonnes a year come through Taftan, Mand and Rahimdad-250, and that Taftan has been shut for about six months.
- Import forms: it says Ministry of Commerce memos dated 16 October withdrew electronic import form exemptions for goods from Iran. The ministry's website did not load for us on 20 October, so we have not seen them.
- Freight: it says freight to Gwadar rose from $60 to $80 a tonne to as much as $380.
The 70 per cent import share is close to what OGRA's own yearly report shows. The figures are in where Pakistan's LPG comes from.

The industry wants daily or weekly LPG prices
The association asked for three changes. It wants LPG prices revised daily or weekly instead of once a month. It wants the price delinked from the Saudi Aramco contract price, which it says no longer matches real import costs. And it wants the Rs 35,000 a tonne margin reviewed.
The margin figure checks out on OGRA's October notification: Rs 17,000 for marketing, Rs 10,000 for distribution and Rs 8,000 for transport, which is Rs 413 per 11.8 kg cylinder. The association says this was fixed in 2016. None of the three demands has been accepted. They are requests, not decisions.
The association also warned that hoarding and black market sales could rise in winter, mainly in remote and mountain areas. That is a warning, not a finding, but it is a reason to check the price before you pay.
What you can do if you are charged above the cap
The LPG rules say OGRA must step in, with the local administration, when a licensee charges above the notified price. The fine for breaking the rules can reach Rs 500,000. The steps are in how to report LPG overcharging.
- Note the weight on the cylinder and the price you paid.
- Work out the cap: Rs 279.34 times the kilograms of gas.
- Ask for a receipt with the seller's name.
- Check the seller on the OGRA authorised distributor list.
- File the complaint with OGRA online, and with your district price control office.
The November price will come out at the end of October. If the Iran route stays shut, the industry expects the gap to widen, but the official cap only moves when OGRA publishes a new notification.
Common questions about the LPG price rise
Has OGRA raised the LPG price?
No. OGRA's maximum for October 2026 is still Rs 279.34 a kg and Rs 3,296.23 for an 11.8 kg cylinder. The Rs 100 a kg rise is in shop prices, as reported by the industry.
Why did LPG get dearer over the weekend?
The LPG Marketing Association blames the closure of the Rahimdad-250 crossing with Iran and stuck cargoes. The government has not confirmed this.
What is a fair price for an 11.8 kg cylinder now?
The legal maximum is Rs 3,296.23 in October 2026. Anything above that is over the notified price.
When does the next LPG price come out?
OGRA normally issues the next month's price on the last day of the month. The November 2026 price should appear around 31 October.
Will LPG prices change daily like petrol?
Not for now. Daily or weekly pricing is an industry request. LPG is still priced once a month.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 20 October 2026. We opened OGRA's LPG notified prices page on 20 October and found the October 2026 notification is still the latest. The October, September, August and July caps come from those OGRA notifications. The shop prices come from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics SPI executive summary for the week ended 15 October 2026, which we read on 20 October. The fine and the rule on overcharging come from OGRA's copy of the LPG (Production and Distribution) Rules, 2001. The Rs 100 a kg rise, the stuck cargoes, the import volumes, the freight costs and the commerce memos are the industry's claims of 19 October, which we could not verify with any government body.
