Snow dusting the tops of pine-covered mountains under grey clouds in northern Pakistan

PMD expects light rain, thunderstorms and light snow over the mountains at most tourist places in Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Malam Jabba, Dir, Chitral and Kalam from Saturday 31 October to Wednesday 4 November 2026. That is the tourist forecast the Pakistan Meteorological Department issued on 30 October.

Snow here means the high slopes, not the towns. Daytime in Murree is still forecast at 17 to 19°C, and Babusar at 11 to 13°C. Nights are the real change: Skardu fell to 2°C and Babusar to 1°C. Below are the forecast for each tourist spot, the overnight lows, where PMD's two forecasts disagree and what to pack.

We read PMD's weather information for tourists, its weekly outlook and its daily forecast, all issued on 30 October 2026, on the morning of 31 October.

Thirteen tourist areas may see light snow on the mountains

PMD's tourist forecast names 13 places for cloudy weather with light rain, thunderstorms and light mountain snow from Saturday 31 October to Wednesday 4 November 2026. They run from Murree and the Galiyat near Islamabad to Hunza and Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan.

BalochistanZiarat: partly cloudy and gusty, no snow named

For Ziarat, PMD says partly cloudy weather with gusty winds and lower daytime temperatures, with cold mornings and nights. It does not forecast snow there this week.

PMD's weekly outlook does not name Murree for rain

The two PMD forecasts issued on 30 October differ. The tourist forecast includes Murree, Galiyat, Naran and Neelum Valley. The weekly outlook for the whole country names only Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra for light rain and mountain snow.

We are not picking one. Both come from PMD's National Weather Forecasting Centre on the same day. The safe reading is this: snow is most likely on high ground in Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Murree may get clouds and a shower. On 5 November the weekly outlook adds a rain, wind and thunderstorm spell for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The national picture, with the plains staying dry, is in our forecast for 27 October to 1 November and PMD's newer outlook, which keeps Punjab and Sindh dry until 5 November.

Days stay mild but nights fall near freezing

Daytime highs in the north stay between 11 and 24°C on PMD's daily forecast for Saturday 31 October. Nights are much colder. On PMD's minimum table dated 31 October, Babusar read 1°C, Skardu 2°C, Gupis 3°C and Astore 4°C.

PlaceSaturday high, °COvernight low, °C
Murree17 to 197
Malam Jabba14 to 166
Chitral18 to 208
Kakul (Abbottabad)21 to 239
Gilgit22 to 245

Skardu16 to 182
Astore15 to 174
Babusar11 to 131
Rawalakot18 to 208
Quetta23 to 256

We read the minimum table at about 3 am PKT, so a few stations may fall a degree further by dawn. Gilgit swings 19 degrees and Skardu 16 degrees between the day's high and the night's low. That catches out visitors who pack for the afternoon.

Check the road before you leave for Naran, Kalam or Skardu

Rain and snow on mountain roads can bring slides and closures even when the plains are dry. Check the road status the morning you leave, carry warm layers and keep fuel above half a tank. A light-snow forecast does not mean every pass stays open.

  1. Open PMD's tourist forecast and check that the issue date is today or yesterday.
  2. Check road status for Naran, Swat and Chitral before you set out.
  3. Pack for night lows near freezing, even if the day forecast looks mild.
  4. Save Rescue 1122 and the local police number for the area you visit.
  5. Turn back if rain turns heavy on a hill road, and wait it out in town.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa routes, see how to check KP road status for Naran, Swat and Chitral. The NDMA's points on hypothermia and frostbite are worth reading if children are travelling.

How to read PMD's tourist forecast yourself

The tourist forecast sits on weather.gov.pk under the Forecast menu, as Tourist Forecast. It opens with a short text paragraph, then a station panel with humidity, wind, visibility and a three-day range. The paragraph is the part that names rain and snow.

The station panel lists Hunza, Chitral, Kalam, Gilgit, Saidu Sharif, Malam Jabba, Murree, Rawalakot, Quetta, Mohenjo Daro, Gwadar, Muzaffarabad Airport, Garhi Dopatta and Babusar. When we opened it, Babusar showed 12 to 14°C for Friday and 11 to 13°C for Saturday and Sunday. Our earlier walk-through of the PMD tourist forecast covers each field.
