Shared KYC lets a resident Pakistani start a stock market account from their bank's portal, without visiting a broker or submitting papers. PSX says you need an active bank account, up to date bank records, and a bank and broker on its Shared KYC lists.

Opening a brokerage account the old way means forms, copies of your CNIC and a trip to an office. Shared KYC tries to remove that. KYC means "know your customer", the identity check every broker must do. We read the PSX page on the scheme on 15 October 2026. This guide explains who qualifies and what happens at each step.

Shared KYC reuses the identity check your bank already did

Shared KYC is a joint scheme of the SECP, the State Bank of Pakistan, PSX, CDC and NCCPL. Your bank shares the identity checks it already holds, so you do not repeat them for a broker.

The full names are the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the Central Depository Company (CDC) and the National Clearing Company of Pakistan (NCCPL). CDC keeps share accounts. NCCPL clears and settles trades, and it registers each investor.

PSX says the process is fully digital. A resident investor with a local bank account can start the request without being present and without handing over documents. PSX also notes that the local-customer version began as a pilot, after the earlier success of the same idea for Roshan Digital Account holders.

Only resident Pakistanis with up to date bank records qualify

PSX lists three conditions. You must be a resident individual Pakistani, your details in the bank's records must be up to date, and you must hold an active bank account. If any one fails, the digital route will not work for you.

ConditionWhat it means for you
Resident individual PakistaniCompanies and non-residents are outside this route
Up to date bank recordsYour CNIC, address and phone should match what the bank holds
Active bank accountA dormant account may not qualify
Bank and broker on the listsPSX publishes both lists as downloads
Shared KYC conditions: resident, up to date records, active bank account

The meaning of "up to date" and "active" in the table is our reading of PSX's wording. PSX does not define either term, so ask your bank if you are unsure.

You start on the bank's website and the broker is chosen there

The request begins on the bank's portal, not at the broker. You pick a broker, accept the terms and give consent for the bank to share your details with the stock market bodies. The bank then sends your information to CDC, which passes it on.

  1. Pick a bank from PSX's list of banks that can share KYC.
  2. Log in to that bank's website and start a stock market investment request.
  3. Choose a broker, accept the terms and give consent to share your KYC.
  4. The bank sends your details and documents to CDC, which checks them and passes them to the broker and NCCPL.
  5. NCCPL issues your registration number (PSX calls it a UKN), and the broker opens your CDC account and tags your unique identification number.
Steps of the PSX Shared KYC account opening process through your bank

The broker may still ask for more checks

PSX says the broker may carry out enhanced due diligence, meaning extra checks, if it needs them. The broker can also enter missing details by hand. So the process is digital, but a broker can still contact you.

PSX gives no timeline for the whole process. We did not run it, so we cannot say how long it takes in practice. Plan to keep your phone and email open, because the broker or CDC may write to you to ask for a missing detail or to confirm your account. Once the account is open, you place orders through the broker. The steps to start investing on the PSX cover what to do next, and how to apply for an IPO is a common first use.

PSX posts the Shared KYC banks list and brokers list as downloadable files. The versions we saw are dated 2 May 2024, so a bank or broker may have been added since. Check the bank's own site for the live option.

Also confirm the broker is licensed, because consent lets your documents pass to it. If something later goes wrong, the steps to complain against a stockbroker start with PSX's own channels.

Common questions about PSX Shared KYC

Do I have to visit the broker?

PSX says no. The process is end to end digital for eligible resident Pakistanis.

Can an overseas Pakistani use it?

Not this route. PSX says only resident individual Pakistanis qualify. Overseas Pakistanis have a separate Roshan Digital Account route.

Which banks take part?

PSX publishes a list of banks as a download. The list we saw is dated 2 May 2024, so check your bank directly.

Do I need to submit documents?

PSX says not physically. Your bank shares the documents it already holds, though the broker may ask for more.

Who opens the CDC account?

PSX says the broker opens your CDC account and tags your unique identification number after verification.

What if my bank details are old?

PSX requires up to date details in the bank's records. Update them with the bank before you try.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 15 October 2026. Eligibility and the process steps come from the PSX page on Shared KYC, which we opened on that date. We did not test the process with a bank or broker, and we could not read the bank and broker lists. PSX describes the scheme as a pilot, so confirm that your bank offers it.
