Hasan Nawaz fought back with 96 off 51 balls

Pakistan's chase started badly. They were 39 for 3 in the seventh over after losing captain Sahibzada Farhan (10), Usman Khan (3) and Maaz Sadaqat (23). India's spinners Axar Patel and Washington Sundar kept the runs down in the powerplay.

Hasan Nawaz then took the fight to India. He hit 5 fours and 7 sixes in his 96, at a strike rate of 188. He and Saim Ayub (29) added a 50 partnership in just 29 balls and took Pakistan past 100 in the 13th over. Nawaz was out caught behind off Shivam Dube on the last ball of the match, four runs short of a century.

Saad Masood hit 12 not out off 5 balls at the end. But Pakistan needed 20 runs from the last ball, so the game was already gone.

What the silver means for Pakistan's medal count

The cricket silver is Pakistan's eighth medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Before today, Pakistan had seven medals: one silver from the men's squash team and six bronze. Our Pakistan medal tally page lists each one.

Two more medal matches were still being played when this was written: the men's hockey bronze match against Korea and the men's volleyball bronze match against China. Both can add a ninth or tenth medal before the Games close on Sunday 4 October.

Pakistan's only earlier men's Asian Games cricket medal was a bronze in 2010, according to tournament records reported at the time.
