Pakistan beat Oman 7-2 in men's hockey at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan on Monday. The win puts Pakistan second in Pool B with 12 points, and that means a place in the semi-finals on Thursday 1 October.

Pakistan beat Oman 7-2 in their last Pool B game

Pakistan beat Oman 7-2 at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Monday 28 September. The game started at 11:00 am PKT. Pakistan led 2-1 at half time and 5-2 after three quarters, then added two more goals in the last quarter to finish the pool with four wins.

The first quarter ended 0-0. Oman held Pakistan out for 15 minutes, which few people would have expected from a team that had lost all four of its games.

Then the corners started to work. Pakistan scored twice in the second quarter, three times in the third and twice in the fourth. Oman scored once in the second quarter and once in the third.

Waheed Rana scored three goals and Sufyan Khan two

Waheed Rana scored a hat-trick against Oman, all three from penalty corners. Sufyan Khan scored two more penalty corners. Ghazanfar Ali and Muhammad Ammad scored one field goal each. Aiman Madit and Al Baraa Al Nofli scored Oman's two goals.

A penalty corner is a set piece given to the attacking team for a foul near goal. Pakistan won 11 of them against Oman and scored from 5. Their other 2 goals came from open play.

Sufyan Khan now has 11 goals in five games at these Games. Every one of them has come from a penalty corner. Waheed Rana has 4, after also scoring against Thailand.

Pakistan finish second in Pool B with 12 points

Pakistan finish Pool B second with 12 points from five games: four wins and one loss. Malaysia top the pool with 15 points after winning all five. China have finished on 9 points, so nobody can catch Pakistan for second place.

Malaysia beat China 5-0 earlier on Monday. That result settled the pool order before Pakistan even started. The only loss in Pakistan's run is still the 5-4 defeat to Malaysia on Saturday. All five results and scorers are in the Pakistan hockey results at the Asian Games 2026.

Pakistan play the Pool A winner on 1 October at 12:30 pm PKT

The official bracket sends the Pool B runner-up to Semi-final 1 against the Pool A winner. That match is on Thursday 1 October at 12:30 pm PKT, in Gifu. The Pool A winner will be known on Monday evening, after the last two Pool A games.

India lead Pool A with 12 points from four games. Japan and Korea have 9 each. Two games are left, both on Monday:

2. India v Bangladesh at 3:00 pm PKT.
3. Semi-final 1, Pool A winner v Pakistan: Thursday 1 October, 12:30 pm PKT.
4. Bronze medal match: Saturday 3 October, 12:30 pm PKT.
5. Gold medal match: Saturday 3 October, 3:00 pm PKT.

If India beat Bangladesh, India finish first with 15 points and Pakistan play India. If India do not win, the winner of Korea v Japan could draw level with them on points. We did not find the tie-break rule in the official system, so we are not going to guess that case.

The other semi-final, Malaysia against the Pool A runner-up, starts at 3:00 pm PKT the same day.

A gold medal would also earn Pakistan a place at the 2028 Olympics

The Asian Games men's hockey champion earns a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics under the FIH qualification rules. So Pakistan are now two wins away from a direct Olympic place, unless the rules pass that place to the next team.

The FIH, the world hockey body, says the place goes to the highest placed team that has not already qualified. That makes Thursday the biggest game of the week for Pakistan hockey.

It is a good week for Pakistan at these Games. The cricket team also reached a semi-final on Monday, after the quarter-final against Hong Kong was washed out. The Pakistan Asian Games medal tally could grow later this week if either team wins its semi-final.
