Pakistan's men's hockey team has won three of its four pool games at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and lost one, 5-4 to Malaysia on Saturday. The team is not unbeaten, whatever you may have seen shared. It sits second in Pool B and plays Oman on Monday 28 September at 11:00 am PKT for a semi-final place.
We read every result, scorer and fixture below in the official results system of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games. The stakes are bigger than a medal. The FIH qualification rules say the Asian Games men's champion earns a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Pakistan's Asian Games 2026 hockey results so far
Pakistan have played four Pool B games at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium. They beat Thailand 9-0, Uzbekistan 5-1 and China 3-0, then lost 5-4 to Malaysia. That makes 21 goals scored, 6 conceded and 9 points from 12.

Sufyan Khan has scored 9 of Pakistan's 21 goals
Sufyan Khan has scored in all four games, 9 goals in total, every one of them from a penalty corner. A penalty corner is a set piece awarded for a foul near goal.
We added up the official match statistics. Pakistan won 35 penalty corners across the four games and scored from 10 of them. Another nine goals came from open play, and captain Abu Mahmood scored two penalty strokes.
Against Malaysia, Sufyan was the only scorer. When the corners dry up, the goals may too.
The 5-4 loss to Malaysia came down to the last quarter
Pakistan lost 5-4 to Malaysia on Saturday after the game was level at 3-3 going into the final quarter. Malaysia scored twice in that quarter and Pakistan once.
The official quarter scores were 1-1, then 1-0 to Malaysia, then 2-1 to Pakistan, then 2-1 to Malaysia. Pakistan won 13 penalty corners to Malaysia's 3 and scored from 4. Malaysia turned all 3 of theirs into goals and added two field goals.
Thirteen corners against 3 should win most games. Conversion lost this one.
Pool B standings put Pakistan second behind Malaysia
Malaysia lead Pool B with 12 points from four wins. Pakistan and China both have 9 points, and Pakistan are second on goal difference. Only the top two go to the semi-finals, so the last round on Monday decides it.

In Pool A, India lead with 12 points and 39 goals for, 4 against. Japan and Korea have 9 each, and they play each other on Monday. So a semi-final opponent for Pakistan would come from India, Japan or Korea.
Pakistan play Oman on Monday at 11:00 am PKT
Pakistan's last pool game is against Oman on Monday 28 September at 11:00 am PKT, in Gifu. China play Malaysia at 5:00 am the same day, so Pakistan will know exactly what they need before they start.
Oman have lost all four games. Here is what comes next if Pakistan keep winning:

- Thursday 1 October: semi-finals at 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm PKT.
- Saturday 3 October, 12:30 pm: bronze medal match.

One result could complicate it. If China beat Malaysia and Pakistan beat Oman, three teams finish on 12 points and a tie-break decides the two places. We could not find that tie-break rule in the official system.
Monday is busy beyond hockey. The cricket quarter-final starts at 5:00 am, and Arshad Nadeem throws in the javelin final at 4:15 pm. PTV and Tamasha have not confirmed every hockey broadcast, so the Asian Games 2026 watch schedule in Pakistan is worth a look before 11:00 am.
Asian Games gold carries a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
Under the FIH's LA 2028 qualification system, the highest placed Asian Games men's team that has not already qualified wins an Olympic place for its country. So gold in Japan would send Pakistan to the 2028 Olympics directly, unless the rules pass the place down.
The FIH document, dated 27 March 2026, gives 16 men's places: one for host United States, two through the FIH Pro League, five for continental champions and four through qualifying tournaments in early 2028.
If the Asian Games winner also earns a Pro League place, the Asian place passes to the next highest team that has not qualified.
The Pakistan Asian Games medal tally stands at four bronze, and hockey is one of the two best chances of changing that, with the javelin.
