Pakistan lost 4-0 to Thailand in their first match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup on Saturday 26 September 2026, in Bandung, Indonesia. Teerasak Poeiphimai scored twice for Thailand, Jude Soonsup-Bell once, and the fourth goal was an own goal by Pakistan's Haris Zeb.

Pakistan play the Philippines next, on Tuesday 29 September at 2:00 pm PKT, and then Vietnam on Friday 2 October at 2:00 pm PKT.

Thailand scored twice before half-time and twice after it

Thailand led 2-0 at half-time, through goals in the 31st and 41st minutes. They added a third in the 64th minute, when Haris Zeb put the ball into his own net, and Poeiphimai scored again in the 84th minute.

The match kicked off at 2:00 pm PKT at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung. Korea's Kim Hee-gon was the referee.

A four-goal defeat to Thailand is not a shock. Thailand are one of the strongest sides in Southeast Asia, and this was always going to be the hardest of Pakistan's three group games.

The FIFA ASEAN Cup is a new FIFA football tournament, and Pakistan are a guest team

The FIFA ASEAN Cup is a new men's national-team football tournament run by FIFA for Southeast Asian countries plus three invited guests. The first edition runs from 24 September to 5 October 2026 in Indonesia and Hong Kong, China. Pakistan and Bangladesh are the two guests in Division 1.

FIFA announced 14 teams: all 11 members of ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, plus Pakistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong, China. This is the tournament people in Pakistan are searching for as the "ASEAN Games".

Division 1 is played in Bandung and Jakarta. It has two groups of four, and each team plays the others in its group once. The two group winners meet in the final, and the two runners-up play for third place.

• Group A: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Bangladesh.
• Group B: Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Pakistan.

Division 2, in Hong Kong, has Hong Kong, China, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor-Leste.

Pakistan need results against the Philippines and Vietnam

Only the Group B winner reaches the final, and the runner-up plays for third place. After losing to Thailand, Pakistan need points from both remaining games to have any chance of finishing second.

Vietnam play the Philippines later on Saturday, at 5:30 pm PKT, which will shape the table before Pakistan's second game. Thailand play Vietnam on 29 September and the Philippines on 2 October. The third-place match is on Monday 5 October at 2:00 pm PKT and the final at 6:00 pm PKT, both in Jakarta.
