A Pakistani passport in the USA costs $70 for 5 years and $98 for 10 years on normal processing at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., or $150 and $225 urgent. A lost passport costs double the first time and four times the second, up to $900. The embassy takes payment by debit or credit card only.

We read the embassy's passport and consular fee pages on 24 October 2026. Below is the full fee list, the papers you need (proof of US legal status and address included), the real processing times, and one broken link on the embassy's page that sends people to a renewal site that does not exist.

Pakistani passport fee in USA: the full list

The Washington embassy charges $70 for a 5 year passport and $98 for 10 years on normal processing. Urgent costs $150 and $225. Lost passport fees run from $140 to $900. All fees are non-refundable and must be paid by card.

PassportNormalUrgent
5 years$70$150
10 years$98$225
5 years, first lost$140$300
5 years, second lost$280$600
10 years, first lost$196$450
10 years, second lost$392$900
Emergency travel document$98

The embassy's list does not split fees by page count, unlike the London and Gulf missions. It shows one fee per validity and speed. If you need a 72 or 100 page book, ask before you pay.

Urgent costs more than double, for about one week less

Urgent processing costs $80 more on a 5 year passport and $127 more on a 10 year one. The embassy lists urgent at 2 to 3 weeks and regular at 3 to 4 weeks. That saves about a week, not a fortnight.

The embassy also warns that delivery can run late, because passports are printed and sent from Pakistan. So urgent is a gamble if your flight is fixed. If you can wait, the normal fee is the better buy.

For the same reason, the 10 year book wins. At $98 for 10 years it costs $9.80 a year, against $14 a year for the $70 five year book. Those sums are our arithmetic. The home comparison, the 10 year passport fee in Pakistan, follows the same pattern.

Documents for a passport at the Washington embassy

Adults must appear in person with a valid NICOP or CNIC, their latest Pakistani passport, proof of US legal status and proof of address, plus one set of photocopies. Married women need the husband's name printed on their NICOP or CNIC.

  • Original valid NICOP or CNIC, with the husband's name on it for married women.
  • Latest Pakistani passport, valid or expired.
  • Proof of legal status: US passport, green card or valid visa.
  • Proof of residence: driving licence, state ID or lease.
  • A self-addressed, prepaid certified return envelope if you want postal delivery.
  • One set of photocopies of the above.
  • For a lost passport: a police report.
  • For Pakistan government employees: an NOC from the parent department.

The husband's name rule catches many newly married women. Fix the card first through the NICOP update on the PakID app, then book the passport. A woman changing only her marital status on an existing passport can also use the online route for updating marital status and husband's name.

Children need a NADRA card and both parents present

Children aged 10 and above need a NICOP, a juvenile card or a revised child registration certificate with fingerprints and photo. Under 10s need a NICOP or a child registration certificate. Both parents must attend with valid ID cards, or one sends a consent form.

If parents are divorced or separated, the embassy wants a guardian certificate from a court. The process for a child's passport when parents are separated explains what that court paper should say. For a baby born in the USA, check the online newborn passport route for babies up to 2 years first.

The embassy page sends readers to mrponline.dgip.gov.pk for online renewal. That address did not resolve when we tried it on 24 October 2026. DGI&P's own page links its online passport portal at onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk, so use that one.

The online portal takes renewals from overseas Pakistanis, with card payment, document upload and status updates by email. DGI&P says the online fee is not refundable and cannot be moved to another person. If the online team refers you to the embassy, the embassy says to bring the fee adjustment letter, and it charges only the difference.

  1. Decide between online renewal and an in-person visit.
  2. For a visit, book an appointment with the Washington embassy.
  3. Bring your NICOP, old passport, US status, address proof and copies.
  4. Pay by debit or credit card at the counter.
  5. Pick up with the original receipt, or wait for the prepaid envelope.
Steps to apply for a Pakistani passport at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington

Someone else can collect your passport with your original receipt and an authority letter from you. For postal return the embassy prefers a USPS envelope and says it is not responsible for loss or delay. Once printed in Pakistan, the usual passport tracking by token and SMS helps you see where it is.

No changes to an old passport, and a birth year quirk

The embassy says existing passports cannot be modified. Any change needs a new passport. It also says that if your CNIC shows only a birth year, such as 1965, the passport will print your birth date as 1 January of that year.

Plan around that before a visa or green card application, because the date must match across documents. The embassy's passport section answers email at mrp@embassyofpakistanusa.org, where you should include a mobile number, and phones on 202-243-6500 from 3 pm to 5 pm, extensions 2600 and 2018. Pakistan also has consulates in New York, Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles. We read only the Washington page, so confirm the fee with your own consulate.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Embassy of Pakistan Washington's passport services page and consular fee page on 24 October 2026, and checked the DGI&P online passport page for the portal address. We tried both renewal addresses ourselves. We did not read the consulates' pages, and we could not find page count options or confirm whether the "MRP" fees now cover e-passports.
