How to Apply Online for a Newborn Pakistani Passport From Abroad: Babies Up to 2 Years
Overseas Pakistanis can apply online for a newborn passport only up to age 2. See DGIP's document list, photo size, card payment and who to email if stuck.

Pakistanis living abroad can apply online for a newborn's passport on the DGIP portal, but only for a baby up to two years old. You upload scans of both parents' documents, a birth certificate, a photo of 350 by 467 pixels and signed forms, then pay by credit or debit card.
A baby born in Dubai, Manchester or Toronto needs a Pakistani passport before the first trip home, and the nearest mission can be a day's drive away. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) runs an online route for this case. We read the DGIP online passport page on 15 October 2026 and list its rules here. The page says its last update was on 4 September 2024, so confirm each item on the portal before you pay.
DGIP allows the online newborn route only up to two years of age
The category is called New Passport for a newborn, and it works only for a child up to two years old. DGIP says a child older than two must visit the concerned Pakistan mission with supporting documents instead of applying online.
That age limit decides everything. Count the child's age on the day you plan to submit, and leave a margin, because the portal also needs a birth record and both parents' fingerprints before you can send the file. If the child is close to two, a visit to the mission may be safer than a rejected online file.

Collect the scans of both parents' papers before you log in
DGIP lists the scans the portal asks for: the father's or guardian's valid original Smart Card or NICOP, both parents' CNIC or NICOP and passports, fingerprint proformas, a birth registration certificate, and the parents' visa or residence document. Have all of them ready.
| Scan | What DGIP says |
|---|---|
| Father's or guardian's card | Valid original Smart Card or NICOP issued with the father's or guardian's name |
| Parents' CNIC or NICOP and passports | Of either parent or the legal guardian, where applicable |
| Fingerprint proforma | Of both parents and of the legal guardian |
| Birth proof | Birth certificate from NADRA, or from a foreign authority attested by the Pakistan mission, or a CRC or FRC |
| Parents' status abroad | Visa, PR card, asylum card or other country passport, as applicable |
| Form for minor | Signed by both parents or the legal guardian |
A foreign birth certificate needs attestation by the Pakistan mission, DGIP says. If the baby's birth was never registered with NADRA, the guide to getting a birth certificate in Pakistan and the steps for the NADRA B-Form explain the records NADRA keeps for children.
The photo must be 350 by 467 pixels, a JPEG and under 3 MB
DGIP asks for a colour photo with a white background, 350 by 467 pixels, in JPEG or JPG format and not more than 3 MB. Use the original photo file, not a screenshot, and check the size before you upload.
The fingerprint proforma is a form you download from your account after you log in. DGIP says to capture the prints on that form and upload an original scan. Scan it at a good resolution so every print can be read.
Parents who are separated, divorced or deceased need more papers
DGIP adds two requirements for special family cases. If a parent has died, upload the death certificate. If the parents are separated, divorced or deceased, upload a guardianship certificate from the relevant court, attested by the Pakistan mission.
A death certificate can come from NADRA or from the foreign authority that issued it, and the foreign one needs mission attestation. For a child of divorced parents, the same custody rules apply inside Pakistan, which the guide to getting a passport for a child explains. Gather these early, since mission attestation is a separate step.

Pay by card at the end, and expect a review at DGIP headquarters
You pay the fee by credit or debit card once the application is complete and reviewed. DGIP says it checks every online file at its Islamabad headquarters and may send a case to the nearest mission or Regional Passport Office for further verification.
- Create a login on the DGIP online passport portal and verify your account.
- Choose the application type New for a newborn and fill in the details.
- Upload the scans, the photo and the signed form for minor.
- Review the whole file, then pay the fee by card at the last step.
- Watch your registered email, since DGIP sends status updates there.

The fee is not refundable and cannot be moved to another person, according to DGIP. The online page does not give a rupee or dollar amount for this category, so we cannot state one. The official passport fee rates cover the Pakistan figures, and your mission sets its own charges abroad. Children under 15 can only receive five year validity, DGIP says.
Contact DGIP's online section if the file is stuck
DGIP lists email addresses for online problems. Write to mrponline@dgip.gov.pk for application issues and onlinedelivery@dgip.gov.pk for delivery issues, with your complete name, contact number, online tracking ID, CNIC number and address. The online section phone is 0092-51-8482202.
Keep the tracking ID from the first day. DGIP asks for it in every message, and an email without it is slower to answer. If the passport reaches you with a spelling error, the correction route is in the guide to changing a name or date of birth on a passport.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 15 October 2026. The age limit, document list, photo rules, payment and contact details come from the DGIP online passport page, and the five year rule for children from the DGIP ordinary passport page. We did not file an application. The DGIP page shows a last update of 4 September 2024, so portal screens may have changed.
