What the fibre label tells you
On brand suits in Pakistan, "pashmina" is mostly a fabric name for a soft, brushed winter cloth, often a blend. Look for a fibre line: "pure" or "cashmere" with a percentage, "wool blend", or a blend with viscose or acrylic. If the page says only "pashmina", ask the store what it is made of.
- Pure pashmina or cashmere: fine wool from Himalayan goats. Rare on brand suits at these prices, and it costs far more.
- Wool blend: wool mixed with other fibres. Maria B names its piece "blended wool", which is the clear kind of label you want.
- Viscose or acrylic blend: soft and warm looking, lighter on the pocket, and more likely to pill.
- "Pashmina" alone: a trade name. It tells you the feel, not the fibre.
Gul Ahmed's page for one of its new suits describes an "embroidered Pashmina shirt" with a "cosy feel for cooler days". In the part of the page we could read, it gave no fibre percentage. That is common across brands, and it is the question to ask before paying a premium.
Brands use other winter names the same way. Khaddar, karandi and marina are weaves and feels, not fibres. Our winter fabric guide explains each.

What each pashmina budget buys
Under Rs 6,000 buys a J. pashmina kurta or an unstitched 3 piece on sale. Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,000 buys J.'s stitched 3 piece. Rs 14,000 to Rs 17,000 buys a new Gul Ahmed pashmina suit or Maria B's blended wool suit.
- Under Rs 6,000: J. pashmina kurta at Rs 2,745, worn with a plain shalwar and shawl, or J.'s unstitched 3 piece at Rs 5,995. Add tailoring to the unstitched price.
- Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,000: J.'s stitched 3 piece at Rs 10,392, ready the same day.
- Rs 14,000 to Rs 17,000: Gul Ahmed's new embroidered 3 piece suits, or Maria B's blended wool 2 piece if you want a named wool content.
For a wedding within two weeks, pick stitched. Tailors are busy in wedding season, and an unstitched bargain does not help if it is not ready. For more looks by event, see our winter wedding guest outfit guide.
Check before you pay a pure pashmina price
The brand suits above are priced as winter fabric, not pure cashmere, so the label matters most when a seller asks for much more. Read the fibre line, ask for it in writing, and compare the price with the brand suits in this guide.
For shawls and stoles sold as "pure pashmina", our sister guide on how to check a real pashmina shawl sets out six tests, including the thread burn test and why the ring test proves nothing.
Care for a pashmina suit
Follow the care label first. Most brand pashmina suits do best with a gentle cold hand wash or dry cleaning, no wringing, and drying flat in the shade. Store folded in a cotton bag, away from moths.
Soft blends pill where they rub, under the arms and at the sides. Remove pills with a fabric shaver held flat, never by pulling. Our wool and cashmere washing guide has the full steps and care label symbols.
