The dollar in Pakistan's interbank market closed at Rs 276.97 on Monday 12 October 2026, by the State Bank's revaluation rate. Banks traded it at a weighted average of Rs 276.69 to buy and Rs 277.12 to sell. The rupee gained about 3 paisa on Friday's close and about 10 paisa since 2 October.

We read these figures on sbp.org.pk on the evening of 12 October. The rate has now stayed near Rs 277 for two weeks, and each day it moves by a paisa or two. For a family converting Rs 100,000 worth of dollars, Monday's move is worth about Rs 11.

The dollar rate in Pakistan today is Rs 276.97 interbank

Rs 276.9736 is the State Bank's mark to market revaluation rate for 12 October 2026. This is the rate banks use to value their dollar books. The weighted average rates show what banks actually paid and charged each other during the day.

Every interbank figure fell by about 3 paisa from Friday. The open market sheet for Monday was not on sbp.org.pk when we checked, so the open market rates in this report are Friday's and are marked 9 October.

The rupee has gained about 15 paisa since 29 September

The revaluation rate has fallen on every day we have recorded since 29 September, from Rs 277.12 to Rs 276.97. A lower number means the rupee is worth slightly more. The moves are small, and the rate is nowhere near a break in either direction.

  • Tuesday 29 September: Rs 277.1214.
  • Friday 2 October: Rs 277.0714.
  • Friday 9 October: Rs 277.0040.
  • Monday 12 October: Rs 276.9736.

The fall since 29 September is about 14.8 paisa. On Rs 100,000 of dollars that is about Rs 53. In practice, nobody will notice it at the counter. The change matters more to a bank holding millions of dollars, and for that reason the State Bank's dollar purchases from banks are worth reading alongside the daily rate.

The State Bank's latest weekly reserves figure on its site is still the one as on 2 October 2026. SBP's own liquid reserves were $21,453.7 million and the total was $26,797.4 million, as set out in the reserves report for 2 October. The 9 October figure is usually posted on Thursday.

Riyal, dirham, pound and euro rates for remittance families

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are the two largest sources of money sent home to Pakistan. The State Bank's revaluation rate for 12 October puts the Saudi riyal at Rs 73.75 and the UAE dirham at Rs 75.41. The latest open market rates on sbp.org.pk, for Friday 9 October, were Rs 73.89 to buy and Rs 74.41 to sell for the riyal.

CurrencySBP revaluation rate, 12 OctOpen market buying, 9 OctOpen market selling, 9 Oct
US dollarRs 276.97Rs 277.52Rs 278.69
Saudi riyalRs 73.75Rs 73.89Rs 74.41
UAE dirhamRs 75.41Rs 75.57Rs 76.16
British poundRs 366.64Rs 366.63Rs 370.07
EuroRs 310.02Rs 310.68Rs 313.68

The euro fell on the revaluation sheet. It went from Rs 310.95 on Friday to Rs 310.02 on Monday, a drop of about 93 paisa. The pound fell by about 21 paisa. The riyal and dirham barely moved.

The buying column is what a dealer pays you when you sell foreign currency. At Friday's open market rate, 1,000 riyals in cash fetched about Rs 73,890, less any dealer margin. Money sent through a bank or a licensed app is converted at that provider's own rate. The way remittances are priced and received is worth checking before the next transfer, and the September remittance figure shows how large these flows are.

Forward rates show Rs 291 for a dollar one year out

The same State Bank sheet lists forward revaluation rates. These are the rates banks use to value contracts that settle on a future date. For 12 October the sheet shows Rs 280.34 for three months ahead, Rs 283.93 for six months and Rs 291.23 for one year.

These are not a forecast of where the rupee will be. A forward rate mostly reflects the gap between Pakistani and US interest rates. Pakistan's rates are higher, so a dollar for future delivery costs more rupees. The one year figure is about 5.1% above the ready rate.

An importer who books a dollar payment a year ahead pays roughly that premium to lock the rate today. The one year rate moved up by about 10 paisa from Friday's Rs 291.13, so the cost of locking in a year ahead rose very slightly even as the ready rate eased.

What to check before you change money this week

A gap of a rupee or two between a dealer's quote and the official rates is normal. On Friday's sheet the open market selling rate was about Rs 1.69 above the State Bank's revaluation rate. A gap of five rupees or more on a dollar is worth questioning, or walking away from.

  1. Check the date on any rate you see. Many pages show an old figure under today's date.
  2. Ask whether the quote is to buy or to sell. The two differ by more than a rupee.
  3. Compare the quote with the State Bank sheet, using the steps in the check of the dollar rate you are offered.
  4. Use a licensed exchange company and get a receipt. The rules for buying dollars at a counter include showing your original CNIC.
  5. For a card payment abroad, check the card's own conversion charge as well as the rate.

If you plan to keep dollars rather than spend them, a bank route such as a dollar account in Pakistan avoids holding cash at home.
