The dollar in Pakistan's interbank market closed at Rs 277.05 on Tuesday 6 October 2026, by the State Bank's revaluation rate. The open market closed at Rs 277.64 to buy and Rs 278.88 to sell, by the exchange companies' own closing rates. Both figures are the newest published, and both show the rupee a hair stronger than on Monday.

Tuesday was another quiet day. The rupee gained less than one paisa against the dollar in the interbank market, and 5 to 10 paisa in the open market. That is a steady market, not a turn in the trend.

We read both figures on sbp.org.pk on the morning of 7 October. The State Bank publishes its own interbank figures and also posts the open market closing rates that the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP) sends it each day. Wednesday's rates will not appear until after Wednesday's close.

The dollar rate in Pakistan today is Rs 277.05 interbank and Rs 278.88 open market

Rs 277.05 is the State Bank's mark to market revaluation rate for 6 October 2026, the rate banks use to value their dollar books. The open market selling rate of Rs 278.88 is what an exchange company charged a customer buying dollars at Tuesday's close.

Dollar rate in Pakistan on 6 October 2026: Rs 277.05 interbank and Rs 278.88 open market selling
Rate6 October 20265 October 2026
Interbank weighted average, bidRs 276.78Rs 276.78
Interbank weighted average, offerRs 277.20Rs 277.21
SBP revaluation rateRs 277.0545Rs 277.0631
Open market, buyingRs 277.64Rs 277.74
Open market, sellingRs 278.88Rs 278.93

The gap between the two systems on Tuesday was about Rs 1.83 a dollar, from the revaluation rate to the open market selling rate. That gap is normal. A counter dealer handles cash in small amounts and prices that in.

The rupee gained a few paisa again on Tuesday

The revaluation rate fell from Rs 277.0631 on Monday to Rs 277.0545 on Tuesday. That means one dollar bought 0.86 paisa fewer rupees. In the open market, the selling rate fell 5 paisa and the buying rate fell 10 paisa.

  1. Monday 29 September: revaluation rate Rs 277.1214.
  2. Friday 2 October: Rs 277.0714, five paisa lower over the week.
  3. Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October: no interbank trading.
  4. Monday 5 October: Rs 277.0631, less than a paisa lower again.
  5. Tuesday 6 October: Rs 277.0545, less than a paisa lower once more.

So over one week the rupee gained about 6.7 paisa in the interbank market. For a family receiving Rs 100,000 worth of dollars, that is a difference of about Rs 24. Small moves like this are why the rate feels stuck near Rs 277.

Interbank and open market rates are used for different things

The interbank rate is the price at which banks trade dollars with each other. Import and export invoices are priced off it. The open market rate is the price at a currency counter, and it is the one that matters if you need cash dollars for travel.

Which dollar rate applies to banks, trade invoices and cash counters in Pakistan

If you are buying cash, the daily and per visit rules on the open market dollar limit apply on top of the rate. An authorised dealer must see your original CNIC for any sale. Anyone quoting you a rate outside that system is not a licensed dealer.

Riyal and dirham rates for remittance families

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are the two biggest sources of money sent home to Pakistan. The open market closed the Saudi riyal at Rs 73.90 to buy and Rs 74.44 to sell on 6 October. The UAE dirham closed at Rs 75.60 to buy and Rs 76.19 to sell.

CurrencyOpen market buyingOpen market sellingSBP revaluation rate
US dollarRs 277.64Rs 278.88Rs 277.05
Saudi riyalRs 73.90Rs 74.44Rs 73.81
UAE dirhamRs 75.60Rs 76.19Rs 75.44
British poundRs 366.58Rs 369.86Rs 366.78
EuroRs 310.83Rs 313.85Rs 311.42

The buying column is what a dealer pays you when you sell foreign currency. So if a relative hands you 1,000 riyals in cash, expect about Rs 73,900 at Tuesday's close, less any dealer margin. Money sent through a bank or a licensed app is converted at that provider's own rate, which usually sits near these figures. The August remittance figures show how much of the inflow comes from these two countries.

What to check before you change money today

Compare any quote against the figures above. A gap of a rupee or two from the open market rate is normal. A gap of five rupees or more on a dollar is worth questioning, or walking away from.

  1. Check the date on any rate you see. Many sites show Monday's figure under Tuesday's date.
  2. Ask whether the quote is to buy or to sell. The two differ by more than a rupee.
  3. Use a licensed exchange company and get a receipt.
  4. For a card payment abroad, check the card's own conversion markup as well as the rate.

A card can cost more than the rate suggests. The markup on virtual dollar cards is often bigger than a day's move in the rupee. The State Bank's reserves were above 21 billion dollars in its last report, which is one reason the rate has barely moved, as our 5 October dollar report also found.
