To verify a PNMC licence online, open the Track Nursing Professionals page on online.pnmc.gov.pk, type the nurse's CNIC or passport number, and press Track Nursing Professional. It works for nurses, LHVs, midwives, community midwives and certified nursing assistants. A formal verification letter for an employer in Pakistan costs Rs 1,000. Below are the exact steps, what each result means, the fee table, and what to do when a name does not show.

The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) is the federal body that registers and licenses nurses, midwives, lady health visitors and nursing auxiliaries. Its law is the Pakistan Nursing Council Act, amended in 2023. We read the council's verification, fee and requirements pages on 1 November 2026, and we ran the online check ourselves with a made-up CNIC to see what a failed search looks like.

Steps to verify a PNMC nursing licence online by CNIC on online.pnmc.gov.pk

PNMC licence verification takes one CNIC and one click

The free online check needs only the CNIC or passport number. There is no login, no fee and no captcha on the Track and Trace page. The box accepts up to 15 characters, so a CNIC with or without dashes fits.

  1. Open online.pnmc.gov.pk and choose Track Nursing Professionals, or go straight to the Track and Trace page.
  2. Type the CNIC number. For a foreign or overseas registration, type the passport number instead.
  3. Press Track Nursing Professional.
  4. Read the result. A registered professional's record appears on the page.
  5. If you see "No professional found with the provided CNIC", check the digits and try the passport number.

We tried it on 1 November 2026 with a CNIC that belongs to nobody. The page answered within seconds with the warning "No professional found with the provided CNIC." That is the message an employer will also see if a candidate's registration does not exist, so it is worth knowing what it looks like before you rely on it.

Five kinds of nursing staff can be checked

The Track and Trace page covers nurses, lady health visitors (LHVs), midwives, community midwives and certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Doctors and dentists are not on it. They are registered with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council instead.

For a doctor, use the separate PMDC registration check for doctors. Families hiring a home nurse often mix the two up. A home attendant who calls herself a nurse should still have a PNMC record, and the check takes less than a minute.

Hospitals must check, because the law bars unregistered nurses

Section 23 of the amended PNMC law says no public or private hospital, dispensary or maternity home may employ anyone as a nurse, midwife, health visitor or nursing auxiliary unless that person is registered. A certified trainee at a recognised institute is the only exception.

So the check is not a formality. A private clinic that hires an unregistered "staff nurse" is breaking the employment rule, and a family hiring through an agency has every reason to ask for the CNIC and run it. If a hospital or clinic itself looks unlicensed, the provincial route is different; in Sindh, for example, you can check whether a clinic is licensed with the Sindh Healthcare Commission.

PNMC verification fees: Rs 1,000 for a letter in Pakistan and Rs 10,000 for a letter abroad

A formal verification letter costs Rs 1,000 in Pakistan

When an employer wants written confirmation instead of a screen check, PNMC issues a verification letter. Inside Pakistan the processing fee is Rs 1,000. For a regulator or employer abroad it is Rs 10,000. Both figures appear on PNMC's verification page and its online fee list.

For a letter inside Pakistan, the council asks for four things:

  • The application form for verification of registration, downloadable as a Word file from PNMC's site.
  • The Rs 1,000 processing fee.
  • A letter, verification form or printed email from the hospital or organisation, with its complete address.
  • Photocopies of the PNMC or PNC registration card and every nursing, midwifery, LHV or post-basic diploma and degree.

Fees go either to PNMC's account at Habib Metropolitan Bank (corporate ID 473) or on a PNMC fee challan at the National Bank counter in the NIH branch, Islamabad. The fee page says no bank drafts or cheques are accepted. Keep the original deposit slip, because it goes with the application.

Verification typeFee for local applicantsFee for foreign students
Nurse, local verificationRs 1,000Rs 1,000
Nurse, international verificationRs 10,000Rs 10,000
LHV, local verificationRs 1,000Rs 10,000
Midwife, local verificationRs 1,000Rs 10,000
Community midwife, local verificationRs 1,000Rs 5,000

Applying abroad, for example to the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council, is a different process with its own email desk. We set it out in the PNMC good standing certificate for NMC UK and other countries.

A "not found" result has four common causes

Most failed searches come from a typing error, a registration made on a passport, an old paper record not yet entered online, or a registration that was never made. Check them in that order before you assume anything about the person.

First, retype the CNIC. Second, try the passport number if the nurse registered from abroad. Third, ask when the nurse first registered. PNMC's online fee list includes an "Old Record Entry" item for every category at no charge, which suggests older paper registrations are moved into the online system separately. We could not confirm how long that takes.

If all three fail, ask the nurse for the registration card and call PNMC on 051-9255805 during office hours, Monday to Thursday 9 am to 3 pm and Friday 9 am to 12:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday are off. A nurse whose licence has lapsed may also need to renew; the current charges are in PNMC licence renewal fees for 2026.

The PNMC app and the licence portal are separate from the check

PNMC launched an Android app on Google Play in January 2026 for council information and digital services. The licence portal at online.pnmc.gov.pk handles applications. Neither is needed for the public check, which works on any phone browser.

Nurses applying for a licence, renewal, duplicate card or formal verification sign up on the portal first. The portal then prints a system-generated application copy. PNMC says applications are accepted only when that copy and the documents arrive by post or by hand at its Islamabad office; faxed and emailed applications are refused. Nursing students checking whether their college is recognised before admission can compare the programmes listed for Dow University's BS Nursing admission with PNMC's recognised institutes list.

Common questions

How can I check a nurse's PNMC licence online?

Open the Track Nursing Professionals page on online.pnmc.gov.pk, enter the CNIC or passport number, and press Track Nursing Professional. It is free.

Can I verify a PNMC licence by name?

Not on the public page we used. It asks only for a CNIC or passport number.

What does "No professional found with the provided CNIC" mean?

PNMC has no online record for that number. Retype it, try the passport number, then call 051-9255805.

What is the PNMC verification fee?

Rs 1,000 for a letter to an employer in Pakistan and Rs 10,000 for a letter to a body abroad.

Is the PNC licence the same as the PNMC licence?

Yes. The Pakistan Nursing Council became the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council after the 2023 amendment. At its first meeting on 8 August 2023 the new council adopted all the old council's regulations and decisions.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read PNMC's verification of registration page, its fee payment page, the home page and the portal's requirements page, and the online fee structure (all four pages of it) on 1 November 2026. We ran the Track Nursing Professionals search ourselves with a CNIC that belongs to nobody. We did not search any real person's CNIC, so we have not described which fields a successful result shows, and we could not confirm how long a verification letter takes.
