A smoggy Punjab town before dawn with a minaret fading into thick grey haze, for Punjab's AQI on 7 November 2026

Short answer: At 3 am on 7 November 2026, Punjab EPA's official dashboard put Kot Addu at AQI 500, the top of its scale, with Kasur at 411 and Muzaffargarh at 410. All three are in the Hazardous band. Lahore read 345, "Very Unhealthy", down from 373 at the same hour on 6 November.

Saturday started badly across a long belt of Punjab. Eleven of the 30 cities with a reading were Very Unhealthy or Hazardous. We read the Punjab EPA dashboard before dawn, when it showed "Last updated: 3:00 AM, Nov 7". Below are all 30 cities, all 11 Lahore stations and the province's own advice for today.

Kot Addu, Kasur and Muzaffargarh were Hazardous at 3 am

Three Punjab cities were in the Hazardous band of 401 to 500 at 3 am on 7 November: Kot Addu at 500, Kasur at 411 and Muzaffargarh at 410. Nankana Sahib was next at 395, just below that band, and Vehari read 377.

Treat the Kot Addu figure with some care. It read 184 at 2 pm on 6 November, and a jump to 500 in 13 hours is large. The dashboard also carries a notice that some stations have connectivity problems. One hour at one station is not a full picture. Check the reading again in daylight before you change any plan.

All 30 Punjab cities ranked at 3 am

The dashboard ranked 30 cities at this hour, from Kot Addu at 500 down to Jhelum at 59. Eleven read above 300 and six more read above 200. Only Talagang and Jhelum were at 100 or below. These are Punjab EPA's own bands.

Six cities in the dashboard's district list had no value in the ranking at this hour: Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, Narowal, Gujrat, Chakwal and Chiniot. A missing city does not mean clean air. Khanewal was the worst in Punjab at 2 pm on 6 November, in Friday afternoon's ranking.

Lahore read 345, with GT Road at the 500 ceiling

Lahore's city figure at 3 am was 345, down 28 points from 373 at the same hour a day earlier. Inside the city the gap was wide: GT Road read 500 and Punjab University read 248. All 11 stations were at Unhealthy or worse.

PM2.5 is fine dust that can reach deep into the lungs. PM10 is coarser dust from roads, building work and soil. Gulberg III stands out here: its PM2.5 was the lowest of the 10 stations that showed one, but its PM10 was the third highest. We are only reading the figures on that one. The dashboard does not explain it. The areas each station covers are set out in Lahore AQI by area.

Punjab EPA's advice for today covers two groups

At Very Unhealthy, Punjab EPA tells everyone to limit outdoor activity and exercise indoors. Vulnerable people should stay indoors, and use an N95 mask and protective glasses if they must go out. At Hazardous, it tells everyone to stay indoors.

  1. Open the Punjab EPA AQI dashboard and read the "Last updated" time first.
  2. Find your city in the ranking. If your town is missing, use the nearest city and allow for a gap.
  3. Keep windows shut on a high reading. Punjab EPA's advice for vulnerable people names this step.
  4. Put on a well-fitted mask before you step out. N95 and KN95 masks in smog are the type the province names.
  5. Report burning or a smoky kiln on the Green Punjab app. The EPA helpline for inquiries is 1373.

Vulnerable people here means children, older people, pregnant women and anyone with asthma, lung or heart disease. People with long-term lung or heart disease should ask their doctor which mask to use. If someone has chest pain or cannot breathe, go to the nearest emergency department at once.

We found no new smog closure order for schools

We found no 2026 smog closure order for Punjab schools on the two official pages that would carry one. That was on the morning of 7 November. Readings this high do not close schools by themselves: closure needs a written government order.

The Environment Protection Department's orders page showed nothing dated 2026. Its newest dated item was a school timings order of 1 November 2025. The School Education Department's notifications page also showed nothing for November 2026. A notice can reach schools before either website is updated, so ask your school too. The routine for this is in how to check a smog school closure.

Common questions

What was Punjab's worst AQI on 7 November 2026?

Kot Addu at 500 at 3 am, on Punjab EPA's dashboard. Kasur read 411 and Muzaffargarh 410.

What was Lahore's AQI on 7 November 2026?

345 at 3 am, which Punjab EPA calls Very Unhealthy. It was 373 at the same hour on 6 November.

Which Lahore area had the worst air?

GT Road, at 500. Barki Road read 395 and Gulberg III 380. Punjab University was the lowest of the 11 stations at 248.

Are Punjab schools closed for smog?

We found no 2026 closure order on the Environment Protection Department or School Education Department pages on the morning of 7 November. Ask your school as well.

Why do night readings look so much worse?

Our recent readings show the same pattern: Lahore was 373 at 3 am on 6 November and 153 at 2 pm that day. Check the "Last updated" time, because an early morning figure may not hold by the afternoon.

Why is my city not in the ranking?

Six listed cities had no value at this hour, and the dashboard says some stations have connectivity problems. Try again later, or use the nearest city.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 7 November 2026, when the Punjab EPA dashboard showed its 3 am reading. Bands and advice are from its health advisory page. These are one-hour readings and they change every hour.
