Punjab School Timings After 15 October 2026: Winter Order Not Posted Yet

Punjab's current school timings run only until 15 October 2026, and as of 9 October the School Education Department had not posted the winter timings that come next. Until it does, single shift schools keep the hours reported for 24 August: 8:00 am to 1:30 pm from Monday to Thursday, and 8:00 am to 12:45 pm on Friday.

We checked the department's notifications page on the evening of 9 October 2026. It still lists no school timing order for 2026 at all, not even the August one. So parents in Punjab are working from reported dates, and the change after 15 October is the next thing to watch.

Current Punjab school timings end on 15 October 2026

The School Education Department's August order set timings from 24 August to 15 October 2026, according to reports of the notification. Schools work Monday to Friday. Single shift schools open at 8:00 am and close at 1:30 pm, or 12:45 pm on Friday.

The 24 August start date itself is official. The department's summer vacation notification of 11 May 2026 says vacations ran from 22 May to 23 August 2026, and all schools would reopen on Monday 24 August.

These hours are reported. We could not read the August 2026 order on the department's own website, because it has not been uploaded there. The reports say the order covers public and private schools across Punjab.

No winter timing order has been posted yet

On 9 October 2026, the School Education Department's notifications page showed no new school timing order. The latest timing order on that page is still the one for April to October 2025. Winter timings for 2026 have not been notified there.

That does not mean nothing will come. Punjab sets school hours in blocks that end on a fixed date, and 15 October has been that date for two years running. A new order usually follows. The question is only when, and whether it lands before Thursday 15 October.

Last year shows how a gap can open. The 2025 order ran to 15 October 2025. The next set of winter timings was reported to start from 27 October 2025, 12 days later. We could not find that winter order on the department's website either.

What last year's official orders tell us

The two older orders that are on the department's website show the pattern. Summer hours start earlier, at 7:30 am. After summer vacation, schools move to 8:00 am. Friday is always shorter.

The 2025 order also set teachers' hours. Teachers in single shift schools came at 7:15 am and stayed until 1:30 pm, with an alternate Saturday from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. That extra time was for lesson planning, training and co-curricular work.

Both official orders let each district's Chief Executive Officer (District Education Authority) stagger girls' schools by 15 minutes. So your daughter's school may open 15 minutes before or after the boys' school down the road, and both can be correct.

What parents should do after 15 October

Do not guess the new hours from a social media post. Ask the school, and check the department's notifications page. The school head gets the order through the district education office, often before it appears online.

1. On 14 or 15 October, ask your child's school if a new timing order has arrived.
2. Check the notifications page on schools.punjab.gov.pk for a new "School Timings" order.
3. Read the dates on the order itself. A real order carries a number and the Secretary's name.
4. Check whether it covers private schools too. The 2025 order named only public schools.
5. Keep the old hours until the school tells you otherwise.

Smog can change things faster than any timing order. In past years, Lahore and other districts closed schools or moved classes online when air quality got bad. Those orders come separately, and the smog school closure order appears on different pages from timing orders.

Winter vacation is a separate order

School timings and winter vacation are notified separately. Last winter, the department set winter vacation from 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026, then extended it to 18 January 2026. No dates for 2026-27 have been posted yet.

The Punjab winter vacation for 2026-27 is the next order after the timings. Expect the timing change first, in October, and the vacation order closer to December.

Private schools sometimes set their own hours within the government frame. If your child's school runs different times, ask whether it is following a district order. Fee rules are separate again, and Punjab caps private school fee increases at 5 per cent a year.
