How to Recover a Hacked Facebook Account in Pakistan

If your Facebook account is hacked, go to facebook.com/hacked on a phone or laptop you have used to log in before. Follow the steps there to reset your password and undo the hacker's changes. Then log out unknown devices and turn on two-factor authentication.

The first sign is often small. Your profile picture changes, or a friend asks why you sent them a strange link. Meta says new account hacks fell by more than 30 per cent worldwide over the past year, but people are still locked out every day. We read Meta's own Help Center on 28 September 2026 for every step below.

Start at facebook.com/hacked on a familiar device

Facebook's official recovery page is facebook.com/hacked. Open it on a phone, tablet or computer you have logged into Facebook with before. Facebook recognises that device, and Meta says this gives the best results. Then follow the prompts to secure your account.

The familiar device matters. It could be an old phone in a drawer or a family member's laptop where you once logged in.

1. On a device you have used for Facebook before, open facebook.com/hacked in your usual browser.
2. Follow the prompts to find your account by email, phone number or name.
3. Pass the security checks Facebook shows you.
4. Set a new password that you use nowhere else.
5. Log out any device or place you do not recognise.

Helping a parent? Meta says they should use their own usual device, not yours.

Undo an email change from your old inbox

If the hacker changed the email on your Facebook account, check your old email inbox. Facebook sends a message to the previous address with a special link. Clicking that link reverses the change and helps you secure the account again.

Check the sender before you click anything. Meta says real Facebook email only comes from fb.com, facebook.com, facebookmail.com, instagram.com, meta.com, metamail.com or global.metamail.com. Watch for misspelled versions of these. Facebook also says it will never ask for your password in an email.

Look out for these signs that the account was hacked:

• Your profile picture changed without you.
• Posts, comments or messages appear that you did not write.
• Your two-factor login method suddenly stops working.
• Facebook emails you about a new email, phone number or password you did not add.
• An unknown device or city shows under "Where you're logged in".

Recover the account without your email or phone

If you no longer control the email or phone number on the account, go to facebook.com/login/identify on a familiar device. Find your account, then tap "No longer have access to these?" and add new contact details that were never on the account.

Facebook's help page gives the order. First try any other email or number you may have added years ago. Type your number with the country code, +92 for Pakistan. If your email provider can restore your mailbox, that is often faster.

If none of that works, search by name or username, which a friend can copy from your profile link. Facebook then checks the account is yours and lets you set a new password. The new email you add must never have been linked to that account, so create a fresh one if needed.

Confirm your identity with an ID or a video selfie

Facebook may ask you to prove the account is yours. It accepts one government ID, such as a national identity card or passport, or two non-government IDs. Meta also offers an optional video selfie, compared against your profile photos, in some cases.

For a Pakistani user, the CNIC is the obvious choice. Passports, driving licences and birth certificates also count. The ID must show your name with your date of birth or photo, matching your profile.

You may physically cover details Facebook does not need, such as your ID number, but it rejects photos edited to hide information.

Meta added the video selfie in December 2025. It compares a short video of your face with your profile photos. When we opened Facebook's own help page for this feature on 28 September 2026, it said the feature "isn't currently available in your country". So you may or may not be offered it. If you are not, the ID route still works.

Trusted contacts, the old feature where friends received codes for you, is not a route to plan around. Our search of Facebook's Help Center on 28 September 2026 found no current recovery article for it.

Lock the account once you are back in

Once you are back in, log out every device you do not recognise, change your password, and turn on two-factor authentication. Then check the email addresses and phone numbers on the account, and remove anything the hacker added.

1. Go to Settings, then Accounts Center, then Password and security.
2. Open "Where you're logged in" and log out any device you do not know.
3. Change your password to one you use nowhere else.
4. Turn on two-factor authentication. Facebook offers a security key, an authentication app or SMS codes.
5. Save the 10 recovery codes Facebook gives you, somewhere offline.

An authentication app is the stronger choice over SMS, in our view, because it does not depend on your SIM. Facebook also offers passkeys, which let you sign in with your fingerprint, face or phone PIN. If your SIM is ever lost or blocked, sort that out first, since the steps are in getting a blocked SIM reopened in Pakistan.

Recover a hacked Facebook Page you manage

A business or community Page has its own route. Log into your personal account and submit Meta's Page recovery form. Meta says it aims to reply within a day, though some reviews take longer. If you cannot log in at all, recover the personal account first.

Meta's usual examples are a hacked admin account, or an admin tricked into handing over control through Business Manager. The form only lists Pages you recently lost access to.

Report the hack in Pakistan and ignore recovery offers

Meta has no general public phone number for Facebook support. So anyone who calls or messages offering to recover your account, usually for a fee, is not Meta. If money was taken, or someone is blackmailing you with your account, report it to NCCIA.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, NCCIA, handles cybercrime in Pakistan. Its helpline is reported as 1799 and its complaint portal as complaint.nccia.gov.pk. We say reported because both nccia.gov.pk and the complaint portal showed us a bot check on 28 September 2026, so we could not read them at source. Before you file, save screenshots of the hacker's posts and messages, the Facebook security emails, and any wallet or bank transaction IDs. Hacked accounts are often used to ask friends for urgent JazzCash or Easypaisa transfers, and more of those tricks are listed under the scams going round in Pakistan.
