To recover a hacked Snapchat account, go to accounts.snapchat.com, enter the phone number or email on the account, click Forgot Password and use the one-time code Snapchat sends. If the hacker changed your number and email, use Snapchat Support Bot and give an email you can still open. This page lists the 12 signs of a hacked account, both reset routes, how to throw the hacker out of every device, and the security settings that stop it happening again.

In Pakistan the usual way in is a message from a friend's account asking you to "vote", "check this link" or share a code you just received. We read Snapchat Support's pages on compromised accounts, password resets, session management and two-factor authentication on 24 October 2026. Everything below follows those pages.

Snapchat lists 12 signs of a hacked account

Snapchat treats any login by someone you did not authorise as a compromise. The clearest signs are a changed phone number or email, a login alert from a device you do not know, spam sent from your account, and two-factor authentication switched on by someone else.

SignHow serious

Two-factor authentication added by someone elseAct now, use Support Bot

Spam or odd messages sent to friendsWarn friends, change password

Snapchat's full list also includes being asked to log in again and again, friends reporting strange messages, and someone contacting you outside Snapchat with details only you know. That last one is often the start of blackmail. Do not reply to it.

Reset your Snapchat password in 5 steps

If your phone number or email still belongs to you, reset the password in a web browser. Snapchat sends a one-time login code by SMS or email, and the new password locks the hacker out once you also end their sessions.

  1. Open accounts.snapchat.com in a browser.
  2. Enter the phone number or email linked to your Snapchat account.
  3. Click Forgot Password.
  4. Choose to send a one-time login code to your phone or email.
  5. Follow the instructions in the SMS or email and set a new password.

You can also reset from the app's login screen: tap Forgot your password?, then choose email for a reset link or SMS for a verification code. Snapchat suggests at least 8 characters, no name, username, phone number or birthday, and a mix of numbers, symbols and capital and small letters.

One limit is firm. Snapchat says it cannot reset a password if the account has no linked email or phone, if you do not know them, or if you no longer have access to them. Knowing the username alone is not enough.

Use Snapchat Support Bot when the hacker changed your details

If you cannot reset the password because the number or email were changed, Snapchat points you to Snapchat Support Bot. Include an email address you can access, because that is where support will reply. Expect questions about your username and when you lost access.

Prepare those answers before you start: your exact username, the date you lost access, the phone number and email you used before the hack, and roughly when you created the account. Snapchat says it will never ask for your password or your My Eyes Only passcode, and it does not need them to help you. Anyone who asks for them, even claiming to be Snapchat, is the hacker or another scammer.

If the hack started with your SIM, for example your phone lost signal and then codes stopped arriving, fix the SIM first. The steps to get a blocked SIM reopened cover the network side, and your mobile network can block a duplicate SIM issued without you.

End every session the hacker is using

Changing the password is only half the job. Open Session Management and log out any device or browser you do not recognise. Snapchat says the Session Management Center shows every device and browser signed into your account right now.

Snapchat notes that ending a session may not take effect immediately, and that saved logins on old devices do not show in the list. So change the password as well; do not rely on the session list alone.

Snapchat security steps after a hack: log out unknown sessions and turn on two-factor authentication

Turn on two-factor authentication and a passkey

With two-factor authentication on, every login needs a code, including a password reset. Snapchat says you must keep both a mobile number and an email on the account when 2FA is on, and recommends an authenticator app or passkey for stronger security.

Snapchat also warns against temporary or disposable phone numbers, which can be reassigned to someone else and lead to a compromise. In Pakistan, that means using a SIM registered on your own CNIC rather than a friend's spare number. If you use an authenticator app, note that changing your number or factory resetting your phone can lock you out, so save backup options first.

The same habits protect your other apps. Hackers who get into Snapchat often try the same password on Instagram and WhatsApp next, so follow the steps for two-step verification across your accounts. Parents can add Snapchat Family Center to see a teen's friend list without reading their chats.

If someone is threatening to share your photos or demanding money, stop replying and save screenshots. The steps to report cybercrime to the NCCIA apply, and Snapchat's in-app reporting reaches its safety team.

Common questions

Can I recover Snapchat with only my username?

No. Snapchat says it cannot reset a password without access to the linked email or phone. Try Snapchat Support Bot with your username and an email you control.

Does changing my password log out the hacker?

It helps, but also log out unknown devices in Session Management. Snapchat says some session changes may not take effect immediately.

Will Snapchat ask for my password to help me?

Never. Snapchat says a representative will never ask for your password or My Eyes Only passcode.

Snapchat locked my account after the hack. What now?

If the message says it was locked because it looked compromised, Snapchat says to use Snapchat Support Bot. Other locks have their own rules.

Can a hacker download my Memories?

A data export notice you did not start is one of Snapchat's listed signs. Change your password and end sessions at once.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read Snapchat Support's pages My account is compromised, I forgot my password, session management, two-factor authentication, security tips and account access on 24 October 2026. We did not run a real recovery, so we could not confirm how long Support Bot cases take to resolve.
