Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore runs its OPD from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 1pm on Friday, under the Punjab government's timing order for teaching hospitals. Medicine, surgery and gynae run a 24 hour emergency, and the specialist OPD has no consultation charge. The hospital's phone number, on the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) site, is 042-99203718.

The hospital sits on Queen's Road, Lahore, and is run with FJMU. Below are the timings, which block does what, every listed specialty, what to bring and where to complain if something goes wrong. We read FJMU's hospital page on 24 October 2026.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital OPD runs 8am to 4pm, and to 1pm on Friday

Punjab's Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department fixed one OPD schedule for its teaching hospitals: 8am to 4pm from Monday to Saturday, including a lunch and prayer break, and 8am to 1pm on Friday. Sunday is emergency only.

The order is notification No. SO(ME)7-6/2021, dated 23 December 2021. We read it on 10 October 2026. The department's website did not open for us on 24 October, so we could not recheck it that day.

Specialist OPD consultation is free at Sir Ganga Ram

FJMU's hospital page says medicine, surgery and obstetrics and gynaecology offer specialist OPD services "with no consultation charges", alongside their 24/7 emergency. You still pay for any medicine or test the hospital does not provide.

The page also lists free food for patients and their attendants, a thalassaemia day care centre and a fleet of ambulances. It does not mention the Sehat Card. Since what the Sehat Card covers now depends on the treatment, ask at the admission desk before a planned operation.

Four blocks hold about 630 beds

Sir Ganga Ram has more than 630 beds across four blocks on about 299 kanals. The OPD has its own outpatient block, linked to the indoor and emergency blocks by two underpasses, so you do not cross the road between them.

A new Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health is being built on the hospital grounds by the Punjab government. Expect some construction around the site.

Every specialty listed at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

Beyond medicine, surgery and gynae, FJMU lists 16 more specialties at Sir Ganga Ram. They run from psychiatry and cancer care to neurosurgery and dentistry. The hospital also has neonatal, cardiac, medical, surgical and gynae intensive care units.

  • Medicine side: cardiology, pulmonology (chest), neurology, nephrology (kidney), dermatology (skin), psychiatry, clinical oncology (cancer) and paediatrics.
  • Surgery side: urology, ENT, ophthalmology (eye), neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery (bone) and anaesthesia.
  • Support: radiology, dentistry, and a pathology lab that runs round the clock.

FJMU runs three medicine units, three surgery units, two ENT units and four gynae units. If your slip names a unit, such as "Surgery Unit 2", go to that unit's counter in the OPD block. The FJMU site does not publish a day by day clinic schedule, so ask at the registration desk which day your specialty sits.

How to see a doctor at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

The visit is simple if you come prepared. Bring your CNIC, any old prescriptions and reports, and a list of your current medicines. For a child, bring the child's B-form or vaccination card.

  1. Go to the Out Patient Block on Queen's Road before 9am, Monday to Saturday.
  2. Register at the counter with your CNIC and get an OPD slip for the right department.
  3. Wait at the department's clinic room for your turn. There is no consultation fee.
  4. Take any test the doctor orders to the pathology lab or radiology, and come back with the result.
  5. For chest pain, heavy bleeding, labour pains or an injury, skip the OPD and go straight to the Emergency Block.

If a doctor's name or qualification worries you, you can check a doctor's PMDC registration in two minutes.

Phone number, address and complaints

FJMU lists 042-99203718 as its phone number and 042-99203716 as its fax, at 17 Queen's Road, Lahore. That is the university office beside the hospital. It can direct you to the right hospital desk, but it is not an emergency line.

For an ambulance anywhere in Punjab, call 1122. If you face bad treatment, a demand for money or negligence, you can file a complaint against a hospital or doctor in Punjab through the Punjab Healthcare Commission or the Citizen Portal. Other Lahore teaching hospitals follow the same OPD hours, including Jinnah Hospital Lahore.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital page on the FJMU site on 24 October 2026 for the history, blocks, beds, specialties, free consultation line and contact details. The OPD hours come from the Punjab health department's notification No. SO(ME)7-6/2021, which we read on 10 October 2026; the department's site did not respond on 24 October. We did not find a clinic day schedule, an OPD fee list or the hospital's Sehat Card status.
