If your Spotify account is hacked or you cannot log in, reset the password at spotify.com/password-reset, then go to your account page and choose Sign out everywhere, and remove every connected app. If the hacker changed your email and you cannot get in at all, contact Spotify through its support contact form. Spotify says your card and security details are never exposed in a hack.

Most Pakistani users lose access in one of three ways: they forget which email or Facebook login they used, someone gets the password, or the account was opened with Facebook and that Facebook account was taken over. Below is what to do in each case, in order, with the exact Spotify pages. We read Spotify's Pakistan support pages on 28 October 2026.

Seven signs tell you a Spotify account has been hacked

Spotify lists an email address change, playlists added or lost, music playing on its own, a subscription change, an unknown Facebook account connected, emails about logins you do not recognise, and a password that stops working. Any one of them means you should act now.

What you noticeWhat to do first
Songs play that you did not chooseSign out everywhere, then reset the password
New or missing playlistsReset the password, then recover deleted playlists
Email about a login you did not makeReset the password from a private browser window
Plan changed or new chargeSecure the account, then check your receipts
Unknown Facebook account connectedDisconnect Facebook, then secure your own Facebook
Password or email no longer worksUse password reset; if the email changed, contact Spotify

Music starting on its own, often late at night, means another device is logged in with your password right now. That device may be in another country. The fix is the same either way: lock everyone out, then change the password.

Seven signs a Spotify account has been hacked and the first fix for each

Secure a hacked Spotify account in 4 steps

Reset the password from a private browser window, sign out everywhere, remove every connected app, then log back in on your own devices. Spotify says sign-out can take up to an hour to reach every device, so do not panic if music keeps playing for a few minutes.

  1. Reset the password. Open spotify.com/password-reset in a private or incognito window, enter your email, and follow the email link. Choose a strong password you have never used before.
  2. Sign out everywhere. On your account page, choose Sign out everywhere. Spotify says it can take up to 1 hour to take effect.
  3. Remove connected apps. On the apps page of your account, select Remove Access on all of them. Reconnect the ones you need later.
  4. Change linked passwords. Change the password on the email account and on Facebook or Apple if you use them to log in.

Step 4 is the one people skip. If the hacker is inside your Gmail, they will just reset the Spotify password again. A Google security checkup takes five minutes and shows every device signed in to your Gmail.

Four steps to secure a hacked Spotify account

Forgot your Spotify email or which login you used

Spotify accounts can be opened with an email, a phone number, Apple, Google or Facebook. If you forgot the email, enter each address you own on the password reset page. Spotify sends the reset only to an address registered with it, so the one that gets the email is yours.

If no email arrives for any address, try logging in with each method instead: Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, Continue with Facebook and the phone number option. Many Pakistani users opened Spotify years ago with Facebook and forgot.

Once you are in, use the change password page in your account to set a new password: enter the current one, then the new one twice, then Set new password. Check your spam folder if a reset email does not show up within a few minutes.

When the hacker changed your email, contact Spotify

If you cannot reset the password because the email is no longer yours, use Spotify's support contact form and ask them to secure the account. Spotify suggests having a receipt screenshot or bank statement ready, with the card number, expiry and security code hidden.

That proof matters more than anything you type. For Premium users in Pakistan, the bank SMS or statement line for the Spotify charge links the account to you. Hide the full card number before you upload it. Spotify only needs to see that a charge came from your card.

Free accounts with no payment history are harder to prove. Give every email and phone number you might have used, the rough date you joined, and the names of a few playlists you made.

Proof Spotify may ask for to recover a hacked account: a receipt with card details hidden

Recover deleted playlists and stop the next hack

Spotify lets you restore deleted playlists from the Recover playlists page in your account, once you are back in. Then protect the account with a long password used nowhere else, and remove third-party apps you no longer use, because Spotify says those can be compromised too.

Spotify's own protection tips do not mention two-step verification for listeners. So your email account carries the real weight. Turn on two-step verification for the Gmail or Outlook account behind Spotify.

Be wary of emails that look like Spotify asking you to "confirm your payment". Spotify has a page on spotting real Spotify emails, and phishing remains the usual route into accounts. If money was taken from a card or wallet, call your bank first, then report it to NCCIA on 1799. Spotify itself cannot reverse a bank charge made elsewhere.

Common questions

Reset the password at spotify.com/password-reset, sign out everywhere and remove connected apps. If the email was changed, contact Spotify support with proof of payment.

Why is music playing on my Spotify that I did not choose?

Someone else is logged in to your account. Reset the password and choose Sign out everywhere.

How long does Sign out everywhere take?

Spotify says it can take up to 1 hour to take effect on every device.

Can a Spotify hacker see my card number?

Spotify says your financial and security details are never compromised in a hack. Still, watch your bank SMS alerts.

Yes. Once you can log in, use the Recover playlists page in your Spotify account.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 28 October 2026. We read Spotify's Pakistan support pages Think your account's been hacked?, Can't log in to Spotify, How to reset or change your Spotify password and Protect your Spotify account on 28 October 2026. Spotify does not say how long a reset link stays valid, how long support takes to reply, or whether two-step verification exists for listener accounts, so we do not claim any of those. The advice on what to send for free accounts with no payment history is our own guidance, not a Spotify statement. NCCIA's 1799 helpline is from our earlier reads of NCCIA's own pages.
