The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) will now record candidates' attendance electronically in all of its future descriptive exams, to stop impersonation. SPSC announced the change in a press release dated 3 November 2026. The system was first used in the Revenue Qualifying Departmental Examination (RQE) that just ended. Computer-based tests are not affected, because they already use electronic attendance.

A descriptive exam is a written paper where you answer in your own words, such as the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) papers and many pre-interview written tests. Impersonation means somebody else sitting the exam in your place. We read the press release, signed by the SPSC media coordinator in Hyderabad, on 4 November 2026.

SPSC will check every candidate electronically at the exam centre

Under the new system, staff at the exam centre record and verify each candidate's attendance electronically. This replaces the old manual check, where staff compared faces and papers by hand. SPSC says the manual method was open to human error and misuse.

The press release does not say exactly which technology is used. It does not mention fingerprints, face scans or QR codes by name. It only says attendance will be "recorded and verified electronically". So candidates should not assume a particular method until SPSC publishes instructions for a specific exam.

What the press release does make clear:

  • SPSC built and tested the system itself.
  • It was first used in the Revenue Qualifying Departmental Examination.
  • It will now be used in all future descriptive exams.
  • Computer-based tests (CBT) are exempt, because they already use electronic attendance.
  • The aim is that only genuine, registered candidates sit the exam.

The change was led by SPSC Chairperson Rizwan Ahmed

The press release says the system was launched under SPSC Chairperson Rizwan Ahmed, as part of a wider reform plan. That plan is meant to modernise exam procedures and rebuild public trust in competitive selection in Sindh.

A Commission spokesperson said the move shows SPSC's commitment to a fair and merit-based system where every deserving candidate gets an equal chance. The spokesperson added that protecting honest candidates is the Commission's first priority. SPSC also said it will keep adding modern technology across its work.

What candidates should do before their next SPSC written exam

Bring your original CNIC and your admission slip, and reach the centre early so the electronic check does not make you late. Make sure the details on your SPSC application match your CNIC exactly, because the system checks you against the registered record.

We suggest these steps for anybody with an SPSC descriptive paper coming up:

  1. Download your admission slip from the SPSC website as soon as it is posted. Our roll number slip guide shows where each commission posts them.
  2. Check that your name, CNIC number and photo on the slip match your CNIC.
  3. Carry your original CNIC, not a photocopy. An expired CNIC can cause trouble at any check.
  4. Reach the centre well before the reporting time, since every candidate now goes through the electronic check.
  5. Read the exam notice for any new instructions on attendance before the day.

If your CNIC details and your SPSC record do not match, contact SPSC before the exam, not on the day. The SPSC phone number shown on its website is 022-9200694, open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Five steps to prepare for an SPSC written exam with electronic attendance

Impersonation already carries heavy penalties at SPSC

Impersonation is already treated as serious misconduct by public service commissions. A candidate caught can be disqualified and barred from future exams. The electronic system is meant to stop the problem at the door rather than after the paper.

SPSC publishes disqualification orders on its own site. One office order on disqualification of candidates was posted on 23 October 2026. Our guide on how to avoid SPSC disqualification explains the rules on false documents and canvassing.

Other commissions are moving the same way. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the commission has its own list of penalties for cheating and impersonation, covered in our KPPSC cheating ban guide.

The next big SPSC exam is the CCE-2026 screening test on 28 November

The CCE-2026 screening test is set for Saturday 28 November 2026, after SPSC postponed the 24 October date. That test is a multiple-choice paper. Whether it is run as a computer-based test or on paper decides whether the new system is used there.

SPSC's notice of 26 October 2026 confirmed the 28 November date. The CCE-2026 closing date for applications is 11 November 2026. Full details are in our CCE-2026 screening test page.

The descriptive CCE papers, which come later for candidates who pass the screening test, are exactly the kind of exam the press release covers. So CCE-2026 candidates should expect electronic attendance at the written stage.

Common questions

What is SPSC's new electronic attendance system?

It is a way of recording and checking each candidate's attendance electronically at the exam centre, instead of by hand. SPSC says it stops impersonation.

Which SPSC exams will use electronic attendance?

All future descriptive (written) exams. Computer-based tests already use electronic attendance, so they do not change.

Does SPSC use fingerprints or face scans?

The press release does not say. It only says attendance will be recorded and verified electronically. Wait for the instructions with your admission slip.

When was the system first used?

In the Revenue Qualifying Departmental Examination that ended just before the 3 November 2026 press release.

What should I bring to an SPSC written exam now?

Your original CNIC and your admission slip. Check that your details match your SPSC record before exam day.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 4 November 2026. We read the SPSC website and its press release of 3 November 2026 on the electronic attendance system, the public notice of 26 October 2026 on the CCE-2026 screening test and the CCE-2026 advertisement No. 06/2026. The press release does not name the technology used, so we have not described it.
