If Telegram has limited your account, you can still message anyone who saved your number and reply to anyone who writes first. To appeal, open a chat with @SpamBot inside Telegram and explain. A frozen account is stricter: you can read chats but not send, and you appeal from the notice inside the app. Below is how to tell which one you have, how long each lasts, and the one message screen that is not a limit at all.

These limits catch Pakistani users who sell clothes or phones through Telegram groups, share course links with strangers, or bought a SIM that someone else misused before. We read Telegram's main FAQ, its spam FAQ and its announcement of frozen accounts on 27 October 2026. Every rule below is Telegram's own.

Telegram has two restrictions: a spam limit and a frozen account

A spam limit follows reports that moderators upheld; you can still talk to contacts. A frozen account follows a ban for scam or spam messages; you cannot contact anyone, but you can appeal. A third screen, asking for Stars, is a paid message setting, not a restriction.

A spam limit comes from reports that moderators upheld

When people press Report spam, Telegram's moderators review the messages. If they agree, the account is limited for a while. Telegram says human moderators check every such report, and group admins can also report people who post spam in their groups.

Telegram is blunt about what gets people reported. It does not matter what you send in a private message if the receiver does not want it: a photo, an invite link, even a simple hello. People especially dislike unsolicited ads, links, group invites and anything about selling or online popularity.

For a small trader that means one thing: message only people who expect to hear from you. Post offers in your own channel and let buyers come to you. Adding people to groups they did not ask to join also gets accounts reported.

The first spam limit usually lasts a few days

Telegram says a first limit, for someone who is not a large-scale spammer, most likely lasts a few days. Repeat offences bring longer limits, and someone who keeps writing to strangers may lose that ability forever. Telegram will not lift a limit early.

That last point is stated plainly in the spam FAQ: asking to be released sooner because you know you were wrong does not work. Wait it out and change how you message people.

How long Telegram spam limits last: a few days the first time, longer for repeat offences, possibly permanent

Appeal a wrong limit through @SpamBot in 5 steps

If you are sure you broke no rule, Telegram says to contact @SpamBot. The same applies if you just signed up and were limited before sending anything. @SpamBot is a chat inside Telegram itself; there is no form to fill and no fee.

  1. Open Telegram and search for @SpamBot. Check the name is exact.
  2. Open the chat and tap Start.
  3. Read its reply on whether your account is limited.
  4. Explain what happened in short, plain sentences. Mention if the number is a new SIM.
  5. Wait for the review, and do not message strangers in the meantime.

Telegram says some numbers trigger an overly harsh response because of what their previous owners did, or because they are certain virtual or VOIP numbers. Mobile numbers in Pakistan can be reissued after a SIM is closed, so that explanation is worth giving if you only recently got the number.

A frozen account is appealed from inside the app

Telegram introduced frozen accounts in April 2025. Instead of being logged out, a banned user keeps the account in a frozen state: chats can be read, but nobody can be contacted. The app lets you submit an appeal, and moderators review it.

If the appeal succeeds, Telegram unfreezes the account and lifts the restrictions. Telegram says its error rate is extremely low, so an appeal works best when you can explain clearly why your messages were not scams or spam. Do not create a second account to get around a freeze.

Fake "unlock" services cannot remove a Telegram limit

Telegram says it has no support accounts on social media other than @SmsTelegram on X, which handles login problems. Anyone on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp offering to remove a limit for a fee is not Telegram. Many ask for your login code and take the account.

Never share a Telegram code. If a stranger already has it, follow the steps to secure your Telegram account and end unknown sessions. If you lost money to such a service, report it to the NCCIA. Starting over is also possible: deleting the Telegram account is permanent, but it does not clear a number's history.

Common questions

How long does a Telegram spam limit last?

Telegram says a first limit most likely lasts a few days. Repeat offences bring longer limits, possibly permanent ones.

Can I still message anyone while limited?

Yes, people who saved your number as a contact. You can also reply to anyone who messages you first.

What is @SpamBot?

It is Telegram's own chat for checking and appealing spam limits. Telegram's spam FAQ links to it directly.

Why is my new Telegram account already limited?

Telegram says some numbers are flagged because of what a previous owner did, or because they are virtual numbers. Tell @SpamBot your story.

Why does Telegram ask me for Stars to send a message?

That person charges Stars for messages from non-contacts. You can pay, wait for them to write first, or ask them to save you as a contact.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Telegram spam FAQ, the Troubleshooting and Your Account sections of the Telegram FAQ, and Telegram's April 2025 announcement of frozen accounts on its blog on 27 October 2026. We did not test a limited account, so we could not see @SpamBot's current replies or how long frozen account appeals take.
