Pakistani boxer Usman Wazir beat an Indonesian opponent in his 19th international fight to qualify for a WBA Gold title bout. What we know and what is next.
Pakistani boxer Usman Wazir has qualified for a World Boxing Association (WBA) Gold title fight after winning his 19th international professional bout, against a boxer from Indonesia. The government's account of the result was released on Monday 28 September 2026.
Wazir, who is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, dedicated the win to the Pakistan Army and the police. His name is also spelled Usman Wazeer, which is how the WBA writes it.
What has not been announced officially is just as important. No date, venue or opponent has been given for the WBA Gold title fight. The WBA had not posted anything about this bout on its own website when we checked on 28 September.
Usman Wazir won his 19th international fight against an Indonesian boxer
The official account says Usman Wazir beat an Indonesian boxer in his 19th international fight and qualified for the WBA Gold title. It does not name the opponent, the venue, the round or how the fight was won.
Reports fill in some of the gaps, but we could not confirm them with the WBA or any boxing body. They say the opponent was Indonesia's Ari Agustian, that the bout took place at the FFC Arena in Pattaya, Thailand, and that Wazir's professional record is now 19 wins and no losses.

The WBA Gold title is a stepping stone to a world title shot
A WBA Gold title is a championship belt awarded by the World Boxing Association within one weight class. The WBA itself describes Gold belts as stepping stones toward world-level fights. It is not the WBA world title.
The WBA is one of boxing's major sanctioning bodies. It runs world titles, plus regional and continental belts such as WBA Asia. The WBA does not publish, on any page we could read, exactly where Gold sits among its regional belts. What it does say is that Gold is a route towards bigger bouts.
The WBA's own reports show how these fights usually look. In August 2026 it reported a WBA Gold light minimumweight title decided over 10 rounds by a split decision. In December 2025 it reported two WBA Gold titles on one card in Lahore, both won on points after 12 rounds.
We could not find a WBA page that sets out the exact rules for Gold titles, such as how a boxer qualifies. The WBA rulebook on its site is a PDF that we could not read as text. So we cannot say what rank or ranking points Wazir needs, only that the official account says he has qualified.
Pakistan already has a WBA Gold champion in Muhammad Waseem
Wazir would not be the first Pakistani to fight for WBA Gold. Muhammad Waseem won the WBA Gold bantamweight title in Quetta in May 2025, stopping Venezuela's Winston Oronó in the ninth round, according to the WBA.
Waseem then kept the belt in Lahore, the WBA reported in December 2025. He beat a Thai opponent on points after being knocked down three times. That fight showed the level of a Gold title bout: hard, long, and against experienced opponents.
Wazir has held a WBA belt before. The WBA reported in June 2022 that "local Usman Wazeer" won the WBA Asia welterweight title in Pakistan. He stopped Thailand's Phatiphan Krungklang in the second round. The WBA said he was 22 years old then and unbeaten in eight fights.
The WBA Gold title fight date is not announced yet

We searched the World Boxing Association website on 28 September for "Wazir", "Wazeer" and "Agustian" and found nothing on this fight. The WBA Asia title in 2022, Muhammad Waseem's Gold title fights and the description of Gold belts as stepping stones are all from WBA news reports we read on its site. The welterweight limit of 147 pounds is the standard professional limit.
