Farmers selling old stock and families buying grain for the year both ask the same question: what is the wheat rate today? We read the PBS weekly price workbooks on 1 November 2026 to answer it city by city.
Wheat averaged Rs 5,541.28 per 40 kg in the last week of October
PBS recorded an average of Rs 1,385.32 for 10 kg of wheat in the week ended 29 October 2026, which is Rs 5,541.28 for 40 kg. That is Rs 24.68 per 40 kg more than the week before, and Rs 442.36 more than on 1 October.
The rate is a market average from shops and grain sellers in 17 cities. It is not the government's support price, and it is not a mill gate or mandi auction price.

Wheat is dearest in Sukkur and cheapest in Sargodha
Sukkur had the highest wheat rate in the week to 29 October 2026, at Rs 5,954.28 per 40 kg. Sargodha had the lowest, at Rs 4,893.32. Punjab cities were generally cheaper than Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the twin cities.

The 40 kg column is our arithmetic: the PBS 10 kg price times four. The flour column is the item PBS calls "Wheat Flour (Fine)", priced per kg. It is a different item from the 20 kg atta bag in the main weekly report.

The wheat rate is Rs 1,041 above the 2027 support price
The Prime Minister set an illustrative wheat price of Rs 4,500 per 40 kg for the 2027 crop on 23 October 2026, in a federal government announcement. The October market average of Rs 5,541.28 is Rs 1,041.28 higher than that figure.
The two numbers measure different things. The support price is meant for the harvest in spring 2027. The PBS rate is what wheat sells for now, months after the last harvest, when stocks are thinner. For more on the announcement, see the wheat support price for 2027.
Only two cities were below Rs 5,100 per 40 kg: Sargodha and Bahawalpur. Faisalabad and Sialkot came next at Rs 5,200. Every one of the 17 cities was above the Rs 4,500 support figure.

How to use the wheat rate when you buy or sell
Use the PBS city rate as a reference, not a fixed price. Grain quality, moisture and the size of the deal all move the price. Check two or three buyers or sellers, then compare against the weekly figure before you agree.
- Find your city's PBS rate in the table above and multiply by the maunds you need.
- Check your local mandi's daily rate as well; in Punjab, check mandi rates on AMIS.
- Ask the buyer or seller whether the price is per 40 kg or per 100 kg bag.
- Look at the grain for moisture, dust and broken kernels before agreeing.
- Weigh on a known scale and write down the agreed rate and weight.
If you are working out what grain means for your flour bill, a maund of wheat converts to flour in the way set out in convert a wheat maund price to flour per kg. The weekly 20 kg bag prices are in the flour price for 22 October 2026.
Common questions
What is the wheat rate today in Pakistan per 40 kg?
The latest PBS figure, for the week ended 29 October 2026, works out to Rs 5,541.28 per 40 kg. PBS publishes Rs 1,385.32 per 10 kg, and we multiplied by four.
Which city has the cheapest wheat?
Sargodha, at Rs 4,893.32 per 40 kg, was the cheapest of 17 cities in the week to 29 October 2026. Sukkur was the dearest at Rs 5,954.28.
Is the wheat support price the same as the market rate?
No. The illustrative price of Rs 4,500 per 40 kg is for the 2027 harvest. The market rate is what wheat sells for today, and it was Rs 1,041.28 higher in late October.
How often does PBS update the wheat rate?
Every week. PBS collects prices to Thursday and usually publishes them on Friday, in the annex to its weekly price report, under Appendix B, part E.
Why did wheat get so much dearer in October 2026?
PBS publishes prices, not reasons. The rise fits the usual pattern of thinner stocks late in the year, but we did not find an official explanation for the October jump.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read the PBS weekly price workbooks on 1 November 2026: the SPI annex for the week ended 29 October 2026, Appendix B, part E (wheat per 10 kg and fine flour per kg in 17 cities), and the annexes for the first PBS week of each month from January to October 2026. The support price is from the government announcement of 23 October 2026 on radio.gov.pk, which we read on 1 November. We did not check mandi auction prices, and PBS gives no reason for price moves.
