Winter Vegetables in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: What to Sow in Late October 2026, With Seed per Kanal
KP vegetable calendar: sow spinach, radish, carrot, peas, garlic and an onion nursery in late October 2026. See seed per kanal, harvest months and yield.

On 20 October in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa you can still sow spinach, radish, turnip, cabbage, carrot, coriander, peas, garlic, late cauliflower and an onion nursery. The KP Agriculture Department's vegetable calendar sets seed per kanal: 1 to 1.5 kg for spinach, half a kilo for carrot and radish, and 25 to 30 kg of garlic cloves.
Small vegetable plots in KP are often measured in kanals, not acres, and the department's chart works the same way. One acre is eight kanals. We read the "vegetable calendar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa" chart on the department's crop calendar page on 20 October 2026 and pulled out the winter crops that can still go in. The chart is in Urdu, and the translation and the acre conversions are ours.
Ten winter vegetables can still be sown in late October
The chart gives October inside the sowing window for ten winter vegetables. Spinach, cabbage and turnip run into November, radish runs to January, and an onion nursery goes in during October and November. Peas, carrot, coriander and late cauliflower close at the end of October.

| Vegetable | Sowing window | Seed per kanal | Harvest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spinach | September to November | 1 to 1.5 kg | December to March |
| Radish | July to January | 1/2 kg | October to February |
| Turnip | August to November | 125 to 250 g | October to April |
| Cabbage, nursery | August to November | 35 to 60 g | December to April |
| Carrot | September to October | 1/2 kg | December to February |
| Coriander | September to October | 1 to 2 kg | December to April |
| Peas | September to October | 2 to 3 kg | January to March |
| Garlic | October | 25 to 30 kg | April to May |
| Cauliflower, late nursery | September to October | 35 to 60 g | February to March |
| Onion, nursery | October to November | 1/4 kg | July to August |
Peas are the one to rush. The window ends with October, so if you have the seed today, sow it this week.
Garlic needs the most seed, 25 to 30 kg a kanal
Garlic is planted from cloves, not seed, so the weight is high. The chart sets 25 to 30 kg of cloves a kanal, sown in October, with rows 8 to 10 inches apart and plants 3 to 4 inches apart. Harvest comes in April and May, at 7 to 10 tonnes an acre.
That is 200 to 240 kg of cloves for a full acre, on our conversion. Garlic is the most expensive vegetable here to start, so buy healthy, firm bulbs and break them into cloves only just before planting. Punjab's dates and varieties for the same crop are in our page on garlic sowing in Punjab.
Onion in KP is a nursery now, moved in January
The chart treats onion as a two-step crop. Sow a nursery in October and November at a quarter kilo of seed a kanal. Move the seedlings to the field in January and February, in rows 8 to 10 inches apart and 3 to 4 inches between plants. Harvest runs in July and August.

- Prepare a small, well-drained nursery bed in October.
- Sow onion seed at a quarter kilo for every kanal you will plant later.
- Keep the bed moist through November and December.
- Move seedlings to the field in January and February.
- Plant in rows 8 to 10 inches apart, 3 to 4 inches between plants.
Cauliflower works the same way. The late type is sown from September to October and moved from October to November, for a February to March harvest. Cabbage seedlings can be moved any time from September to January.
Spinach, radish and carrot are sown straight on ridges
Radish, turnip, carrot and peas are sown on both sides of a ridge, with ridges 2 to 3 feet apart. Plants sit 2 to 4 inches apart. Spinach goes in rows 1 to 1.75 feet apart. None of these is moved, so sow thinly and thin the seedlings later.
The chart's yields reward the root crops. Radish and turnip give 12.5 to 15 tonnes an acre, carrot 10 to 15 tonnes and spinach 5 to 7.5 tonnes. Peas give 2.5 to 5 tonnes. For what these sell for in the cities, the national averages are in our report on onion and tomato prices by city.

Water winter vegetables every 7 to 15 days
The chart's footer sets a watering gap of 7 to 15 days for winter vegetables, against 7 days in summer. For fertiliser it gives 2 to 3 trolleys of farmyard manure, 1 to 2 bags of DAP and 1 to 2 bags of urea an acre.
At the national average prices for the week to 8 October 2026, the chemical part of that dose costs about Rs 21,907 to Rs 43,815 an acre, or about Rs 2,738 to Rs 5,477 a kanal. That is our arithmetic, with DAP at Rs 17,127.78 and urea at Rs 4,779.51 a bag, the urea and DAP prices for that week.
Cold nights slow everything down. Before a frost, check the PMD minimum temperatures for your city and water in the morning, not the evening. Growers short of water can look at the KP drip and sprinkler scheme.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read the vegetable calendar on the KP Agriculture Department's crop calendar page on 20 October 2026. It is a printed Urdu chart posted as an image in July 2026, with no year on its face, so we cannot say when it was revised. The chart gives seed per kanal and yield per acre, and the acre and kanal conversions and costs are ours. It names no varieties, and we could not check seed prices in KP markets.
