Short answer: The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) programme sends government school teachers of science and maths from Pakistan to the U.S. for six weeks, all costs paid. You need five years of classroom experience, a bachelor's degree and good English. The last deadline on USEFP's page was 26 February 2026, and the page is now closed.

Private school teachers cannot apply. The programme is only for government school teachers who teach sciences and mathematics in classes 8 to 10.

We read USEFP's TEA page on 12 October 2026. The status, eligibility rules, benefits and answers below are from that page. USEFP does not state the date of the next call there, so do not plan around a guess.

TEA is a six-week training programme in the U.S. for government school teachers

USEFP says TEA is a Fulbright programme funded by the U.S. Department of State. It runs for six weeks. The programme builds lesson planning skills, assessment techniques and teaching strategies that teachers can use back home, and trains them in using computers as teaching tools.

The aim, in USEFP's words, is to prepare participants to be teacher leaders who share what they learn when they return. It also gives a deeper picture of the United States and links between U.S. and Pakistani teachers.

USEFP's partner for the programme is IREX.

Only government school teachers of science and maths qualify

USEFP's eligibility list is direct. Start with your subject and your school, because a mismatch ends the application at once.

  • A government school teacher, teaching sciences and mathematics in classes 8 to 10.
  • At least five years of classroom teaching experience in maths and sciences.
  • A Pakistani citizen who lives in Pakistan throughout the process and is committed to returning and serving Pakistan.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Plans to keep teaching for at least five more years after the programme.
  • A bachelor's degree or 16 years of formal education.

USEFP's FAQ also says the programme is for maths, science and computer science teachers. A teacher of any other subject, such as English or Urdu, does not fit.

Several groups are listed as ineligible. They are dual U.S. and Pakistani nationals, and those with a spouse or child over 18 who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. They also include employees of the Fulbright organisation, the U.S. Department of State or USAID and their close family, anyone who has already had a Fulbright award, and alumni of any U.S. government funded scholarship.

Who can apply for Fulbright TEA in Pakistan: government school science and maths teachers of classes 8 to 10 with five years of experience

The documents are lighter than most scholarships

USEFP says you need a reference form from your head of department or principal. You do not need a no-objection certificate from the education department at the application stage.

You do not take a test up front. Only selected candidates take the TOEFL, and USEFP says there is no charge. That makes the first step cheap.

  1. Check that you teach sciences, maths or computer science in classes 8 to 10 in a government school.
  2. Count your classroom years in those subjects. You need at least five.
  3. Ask your head or principal for the reference form.
  4. Prepare your transcripts and proof of 16 years of education.
  5. Apply online at usefp.org when the call opens and keep the confirmation.
Prepare a Fulbright TEA file in five steps: subject, years, reference form, transcripts and online application

The application is made through USEFP's website, so keep a working email address and phone number on it. If you are selected, you will be contacted there.

What to do while the call is closed

The closing date was 26 February 2026. USEFP's page does not say when the next call will open. That is a good reason to get your file ready now, and to check usefp.org instead of social media posts that quote a date.

Be careful with WhatsApp groups that sell "TEA form support". The application is made through USEFP's own website. The guide to checking a study-abroad agent shows how to test a seller before you pay.

If you are an English teacher, the better fit is the Fulbright FLTA programme. A teacher who wants a master's degree should read the guide to the Fulbright scholarship for Pakistan.
