Taking cash from an ATM abroad with a Pakistani debit card costs Rs 200 per withdrawal on NayaPay, Rs 250 on SadaPay, Rs 1,000 or 1% on Zindigi, and 4% at Meezan, HBL, MCB, UBL and Al Baraka, with a minimum of Rs 600 at Meezan and Rs 300 at HBL. PayPak and Easypaisa cards do not work at ATMs outside Pakistan.

That spread matters for anyone going for Umrah, visiting family in the Gulf or studying abroad. We read the current schedules of NayaPay, SadaPay, Zindigi and Meezan Bank's Visa debit card page on 1 November 2026. HBL, MCB, UBL and Al Baraka figures come from their July to December 2026 schedules, which our team read in September and October.

ATM cash abroad costs Rs 200 to 4% per withdrawal

Wallet cards charge a flat fee and banks charge a percentage. NayaPay's Rs 200 and SadaPay's Rs 250 are the lowest flat fees. Zindigi charges Rs 1,000 or 1%. The big banks charge 4% of the amount, and some add a minimum.

SadaPay's schedule lists the Rs 250 ATM fee on one line and a 6% "international transaction fee" on another. It does not say whether the 6% also applies to cash. Ask SadaPay before you rely on the Rs 250 alone.

ATM withdrawal abroad charges on Pakistani debit cards: NayaPay Rs 200, SadaPay Rs 250, banks 4%

What one withdrawal costs: Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000 examples

For cash worth Rs 50,000, a 4% bank card costs Rs 2,000 and Zindigi Rs 1,000. NayaPay and SadaPay stay at their flat Rs 200 and Rs 250. For small amounts, minimum fees change the order: Zindigi's Rs 1,000 floor makes it the dearest for Rs 10,000.

CardCash worth Rs 10,000Cash worth Rs 50,000
NayaPayRs 200Rs 200
SadaPay (ATM fee only)Rs 250Rs 250
HBLRs 400Rs 2,000
MCB, UBL, Al BarakaRs 400Rs 2,000
MeezanRs 600Rs 2,000
ZindigiRs 1,000Rs 1,000

These are our sums from the published fees. They leave out the exchange rate each card applies, which none of the schedules gives as a number. NayaPay also passes on "FX settlement costs" for buying dollars, without a published rate.

Fewer, larger withdrawals save money on flat fees

With a flat fee, each trip to the ATM costs the same whatever the amount. So two withdrawals cost twice as much as one. With a 4% card, the number of trips matters less, because you pay the same share each time, apart from the minimum.

  1. Before you travel, switch on international use in your bank or wallet app.
  2. Check your wallet level allows use abroad. Zindigi needs Ultra.
  3. Take out what you need for several days in one go, within your card's limit.
  4. Skip balance checks at foreign ATMs; check the balance in your app for free.
  5. Read any fee the foreign ATM shows on screen before you confirm.
Five steps to cut ATM fees abroad with a Pakistani debit card

The balance check tip is real money. Meezan charges Rs 300 and NayaPay Rs 150 for a balance check at a foreign ATM, while the app shows it at no cost.

Yearly card limits and tax still apply abroad

The State Bank caps card-based cross-border transactions at USD 30,000 a person a year across all cards, and the year restarted on 1 November. Zindigi's schedule also lists the 236Y tax on international transactions at 0.5% for filers and 1% for non-filers.

Ask your bank whether it counts ATM cash toward the same USD 30,000 card limit, since the circular speaks of card transactions in general. The 236Y tax on card payments abroad explains the rate cut from 5% that some bank pages still print.

Cash you carry is a separate rule. The limit on foreign currency in your luggage is set out in the foreign currency limit for travel from Pakistan. For pilgrims, a card plus a modest amount of cash is usually the safer mix than a thick envelope of riyals.

Which card to take on your trip

For a short trip with a few cash withdrawals, a wallet card with a flat fee costs least. For card payments in shops abroad, the percentage fee matters more, so check that too. Carry a second card from a different provider in case one is blocked.

For shop and online payments abroad, compare the SadaPay charges and NayaPay charges in full before you pick. And if your bank card has the PayPak logo only, it will not work abroad at all, as the PayPak card rules make clear.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

On 1 November 2026 we read NayaPay's schedule of charges for July to December 2026, SadaPay's schedule for July to December 2026, Zindigi's schedule for October to December 2026 and Meezan Bank's Visa debit card page. HBL, MCB, UBL and Al Baraka figures come from their July to December 2026 schedules as our team read them in September and October 2026. Easypaisa's "Pakistan only" answer is from its FAQ read on 19 October 2026. The examples are our arithmetic. We did not use any card abroad, so exchange rates, foreign ATM owners' own fees and whether SadaPay adds 6% to cash are not verified.
