Bank Alfalah charges 3.75% a month on unpaid balances

If you do not pay the full bill, Bank Alfalah charges a service fee of 3.75% a month on most cards, which it states as a 45% annual percentage rate. The Visa Classic card costs 3.83% a month, or 46%. The same rate applies to retail purchases and cash advances.

That is expensive money. Carry Rs 100,000 for one month on a Gold card and the service fee is about Rs 3,750, by our sums, before tax. On Classic it is about Rs 3,830. Paying the full statement balance by the due date avoids it entirely.

SBP rules give you time to do that. Your statement must reach you 15 working days before the due date, as set out in your credit card bill rights. And there are seven ways to pay a Bank Alfalah credit card bill, from the Alfa app to an IBFT from another bank.

Late payment costs Rs 2,500 and cash costs at least Rs 1,200

Missing the minimum payment costs a flat Rs 2,500 late payment fee. Taking cash on the card costs Rs 1,200 or 3% of the amount, whichever is higher, and the cash balance also carries the monthly service fee. Cash through a non-Alfalah POS or Alfa costs up to 5% or Rs 1,500.

ChargeBank Alfalah, July to December 2026
Late paymentRs 2,500 flat
Cash advance or Call and PayRs 1,200 or 3%, whichever is higher
Cash on POS or AlfaUp to 5% or Rs 1,500, whichever is higher
Acquiring bank charge on cash1% of the cash amount
Over the limit2% of the excess or Rs 1,600, whichever is higher, every month
Returned cheque or failed autopayRs 1,200
Credit line increaseRs 1,000
Card maintenanceRs 1,000

The over limit fee repeats. The schedule says it is charged every month until the balance falls back under your limit, so one big purchase can trigger it month after month. A failed autopay costs Rs 1,200, which is why it pays to keep the linked account funded on the due date.

Bank Alfalah instalment plans cost 26% to 40.74% a year

Bank Alfalah's Step by Step plan, which splits a purchase into instalments, costs up to 35.23% a year for 3 months and up to 40.74% for 12 months. Credit on Phone costs up to 30.38% to 35.07%. The Balance Transfer Facility costs 26.00% for every tenor.

On top of the rate, converting to Step by Step or Credit on Phone has a processing charge of at least 2.5% or Rs 1,500. Settling early costs 5% of the balance or Rs 1,000. A balance transfer has a processing fee of Rs 600 or 2.5%, whichever is higher. These are the kinds of costs compared across nine banks in credit card instalment plans.

Foreign spending costs 4.5% plus withholding tax

Card payments in foreign currency cost 4.5% of the amount or Rs 125, whichever is higher. On top of that, the schedule lists advance withholding tax on international spending: 5% for filers and 10% for non filers. Together that can add 9.5% or 14.5% to a foreign purchase.

On a USD 100 subscription, a non filer pays the 4.5% fee and 10% tax, about USD 14.50 extra, by our sums. Getting on the active taxpayer list halves the tax part.

  1. Pay the full statement balance by the due date to avoid the 3.75% monthly service fee.
  2. Set autopay from a funded account so you never pay the Rs 2,500 late fee or Rs 1,200 for a failed debit.
  3. Avoid cash on the card: the fee is at least Rs 1,200, and the cash also carries the monthly service fee.
  4. Check the spend target before choosing Signature for its reduced fee.
  5. For foreign subscriptions, compare the 4.5% fee with your other cards.

SMS alerts on the card are free. SMS pull banking costs Rs 60 a month, and paying a utility bill through the card costs Rs 50 below Rs 5,000 or Rs 65 above. For how Alfalah's fees compare with other banks, see the best credit cards in Pakistan compared on fees.
