Short answer: To buy a registered Premium Prize Bond of Rs 25,000 or Rs 40,000, go to an office of the State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation or an authorised bank branch. Take your CNIC copy, a bank account certificate with IBAN, a tax certificate if you are a filer, and nominee details.

A Premium Prize Bond is not the same as the ordinary prize bond you buy over the counter. It is registered in your name. Prize money and profit go straight to your bank account, and you do not fill in a claim form.

We read the Premium Prize Bond page and the FAQ page on savings.gov.pk on 13 October 2026. This guide follows what those pages say.

The Premium Prize Bond comes in two sizes and is registered

The bond is sold in Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000 denominations. It is registered in the investor's name, which is why the FAQ calls it registered. It pays quarterly prize draws and bi-annual profit, and it has no limit on how much you buy or how long you hold.

The product page lists the highest prize as Rs 30,000,000 for the Rs 25,000 bond and Rs 80,000,000 for the Rs 40,000 bond. The page also says there are four prize draws a year. We did not find draw dates on the pages we read.

Prize money and profit are credited to your bank account

You do not fill in a claim form for a Premium Prize Bond. Prize money and profit go straight to the bank account you gave when you bought. This is the biggest difference from an ordinary bond, where you submit a form and a CNIC copy to claim.

That is why the bank account certificate matters. If the IBAN is wrong, the credit has nowhere to go. Check the account title, IBAN, bank and branch before you hand the paper in. For ordinary bonds that you do claim by form, see how to claim a prize bond prize.

Bring four papers when you apply

The product page lists four items for the sale application: a CNIC copy, an Account Maintenance Certificate, a tax certificate if you are a filer, and nominee CNIC details. Bring all four so the counter can finish the sale in one visit.

  1. A copy of your CNIC.
  2. An Account Maintenance Certificate from your bank. It shows the account title, IBAN, status of the account, bank and branch name.
  3. A tax certificate if you are a filer.
  4. The CNIC details of your nominee.

The FAQ says there are two kinds of application form, one for individuals and one for corporate buyers. Senior citizens and women are asked to speak to the counter official without waiting for their turn.

Pay by cash, cheque, pay order or draft

You can pay in cash, by cheque, by pay order or by bank draft. The bond is sold at offices of the State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation and at authorised branches of commercial banks. Any adult Pakistani and overseas Pakistanis can buy.

The FAQ says the bond is transferable and can be pledged. The pages we read do not describe the transfer steps, so ask the office before you gift or pledge a bond. If you pay by cheque, remember that clearing now moves toward images, see what PECS changes for cheques.

Tax applies to profit and prize, and Zakat does not

The FAQ says withholding tax applies to both profit and prize money. The rate is 15 percent for filers on the Active Taxpayer List and 30 percent for non-filers. It also says the Premium Prize Bond is exempt from Zakat.

ItemWhat the pages say
DenominationsRs 25,000 and Rs 40,000
Prize drawsFour a year, quarterly
ProfitPaid twice a year, to your bank account
Tax on profit and prize15% filers, 30% non-filers
ZakatExempted
Highest prizeRs 30 million (Rs 25,000 bond), Rs 80 million (Rs 40,000 bond)

The FAQ also gives a profit rate of 2.92 percent a half year, but that page shows "Last Updated: 26 August, 2025", and the product page lists no rate. We therefore do not rely on it. Ask the office for the current rate before you buy. To see whether a bond keeps pace with prices, check whether your savings beat inflation. Read how Zakat differs across schemes in the page on Zakat on National Savings.

Know the difference from an ordinary bond

An ordinary prize bond is a bearer instrument that belongs to whoever holds it. A Premium Prize Bond is registered in a name, pays profit as well as prizes, and credits your bank. Knowing this helps you avoid fake offers.

Buy only from the offices named on the National Savings page. A bond is never sold through a message or a social media account. For ordinary bonds, learn how to check a prize bond is real and where to see the prize bond draw schedule for 2026.
