How to choose a cooking range in 5 steps

Count your burners first, then pick the body and the oven door, then measure your kitchen. A family of five or more usually needs five burners. Stainless steel lasts longest, and a double door suits a narrow kitchen.

  1. Count the burners you use. Most families cook on two or three at once. Five burners help at Eid and weddings.
  2. Pick the body. Stainless steel resists rust. Painted mild steel is cheaper but can rust where it chips.
  3. Pick the oven door. A double door needs less space in front of the range.
  4. Measure the space. Leave room on each side for air and for the gas pipe.
  5. Ask about your gas. The listings do not say whether each range is set for sui gas or LPG. Ask the seller, and have a fitter check the connection.

Gas use, winter pressure and safety

A cooking range uses more gas than a table stove when its oven is on, so winter bills rise with baking. Piped gas is billed in slabs and LPG by the kilogram. Evening pressure drops in winter are a supply problem that a new range will not fix.

If your bill jumps in December and January, read our sui gas winter slabs guide to see which slab you are in. If you cook on a cylinder, the LPG price for November 2026 sets the cost. For a smaller budget, our gas stove price list starts at Rs 4,500.

An oven burns gas inside a closed box, so keep the kitchen aired while it runs. Our gas safety guide covers leaks and carbon monoxide, the gas you cannot smell.
