Gemini for Education in Pakistan: Free for Schools and Teachers, and How Admins Turn It On

Gemini for Education is free for Pakistani schools, colleges and universities that use any Google Workspace for Education edition, including the no-cost Education Fundamentals plan; the school's admin switches it on, and teachers and students then sign in to gemini.google.com with their school account. A paid add-on, Google AI Pro for Education, costs $15 a user a month on a one-year commitment.

Many Pakistani teachers already use a personal Gmail account to try AI for lesson plans. The school version is different: Google says the data is not reviewed by humans or used to train its models. We read Google for Education's Gemini page and its admin help links on 1 November 2026. Here is what is free, what teachers get, and how a school turns it on.

Gemini for Education costs nothing on every Workspace for Education edition

Google includes Gemini for Education at no charge in all Google Workspace for Education editions. A school that uses Microsoft or another suite can still get it free by signing up for Google for Education Fundamentals. Only the premium add-on is paid.

The $15 price applies to a one-year commitment. Google's footnote adds a 25% discount for Education Plus customers buying between 50 and 999 licences on a year's commitment. Prices are in US dollars, so the rupee cost moves with the exchange rate and any card or bank charges.

Teachers get lesson plans, re-levelled texts and quizzes with answer keys

Google lists three teacher uses: lesson plans aligned to learning objectives and standards, re-levelling texts and assignments for different students, and generating exams, quizzes, rubrics and answer keys. Staff can also draft messages, summarise documents and get research help.

For a Pakistani classroom, re-levelling is the underrated one. A teacher with a mixed class 7 section can ask for the same science passage at two reading levels, or in simpler English for students who learned in Urdu medium. The output still needs checking against the Single National Curriculum textbook you actually teach.

The feature list on Google's page also includes Deep Research, Gems (saved custom helpers), Gemini Canvas, Audio Overviews and Gemini Live. If you already write prompts for a personal account, ideas from our lesson plan and quiz prompts for teachers carry over to Gemini with small changes.

• Lesson planning: plans built around a stated learning objective.
• Differentiation: the same task re-levelled for stronger and weaker readers.
• Assessment: exams, quizzes, assignments, rubrics and answer keys.
• Admin work: parent letters, notice drafts and document summaries.

Students under 18 get extra guardrails, and the data is not used for training

Google says students under 18 get a separate experience with extra guardrails and AI literacy resources, and that conversations under education accounts are not reviewed by humans or used to train AI models. Gemini is covered by the Workspace for Education terms, not consumer terms.

That is the strongest reason for a school to use school accounts rather than letting each teacher sign up with personal Gmail. On a personal account, activity settings are the user's own business; our steps to delete Gemini chats and turn off activity show how much that depends on each person remembering.

The app is available in more than 40 languages and over 230 countries and territories, according to Google's FAQ. Admins can also search and export Gemini conversations in their domain through Google Vault, which matters if a complaint ever needs to be investigated.

The school admin turns Gemini on in the Google Admin console

Gemini for Education is an admin-managed core service. The school's IT admin turns Gemini access on or off for users in the Google Admin console. A teacher cannot switch it on from their own account; if Gemini says it is unavailable, the admin has not enabled it.

1. Confirm the school has a Google Workspace for Education edition, or sign up for Education Fundamentals at workspace.google.com/edu.
2. In the Google Admin console, open the Gemini app service settings.
3. Turn Gemini on for the teachers' and students' organisational units you choose.
4. Ask teachers to sign in at gemini.google.com with their school account.
5. Review usage reports in the Admin console to see who needs training.

Google decides which institutions qualify for an Education edition, and we could not confirm how it treats Pakistani coaching centres, so ask before you plan around it. Private schools and colleges with their own domain usually manage it through the IT teacher or a vendor. If your school does not have a domain email yet, our steps to set up email on your own domain with Google Workspace explain the DNS part.

University students can also use Google's separate student offer

Gemini for Education is for schools and their accounts. Individual university students have a separate route: Google's student offer for higher education, linked from the same page. That one is tied to the student, not to an admin decision.

If your university has not enabled Gemini on its accounts, check whether you qualify for free Gemini for Pakistani students on a personal account instead. Students who mainly want to study from PDFs and class notes may also prefer Gemini Notebook, which the add-on boosts with five times higher limits.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read Google for Education's Gemini for Education page on 1 November 2026 for the free inclusion, the AI Pro for Education prices and discount footnote, teacher features, data protections, age rules and the 40 language and 230 country figures, and noted its linked admin help on controlling Gemini access. Exact Admin console menu names can differ by account, and we did not have an education admin account to test the steps or confirm eligibility rules for Pakistani schools.
