Google has recently launched an affordable Pixel Smartphone, that feels like a flagship Google Pixel 9 but not with flagship prices. That sounds amazing right? That is exactly what we thought when we got our hands on the Google Pixel 9a so we can review it for you. We tested it, used it as a daily companion phone, clicked photos in different lighting, ran heavy apps, games, and yes, even checked how long the 5,100mAh battery actually lasts.

Google Pixel 9a Complete Review by Pakera
Now, let’s talk about how it actually feels to use this phone.
Premium Design & Display That Feels Solid

When we first unboxed the Pixel 9a, the new design immediately impressed us. Unlike previous Pixels, Google ditched the big camera bar, and now it feels like a small strong brick and more premium. We tested the Iris (Blue) variant, but it also comes in Porcelain (White), Peony (Pink), and Obsidian (Black) so you get some nice choices.
The 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate is super smooth. Scrolling through Instagram and TikTok felt smooth, and outdoor visibility was impressive thanks to the 2700 nits brightness. No issues using it under direct sunlight.
Performance (Tensor G4 Does the Job Well)
Google put their Tensor G4 chip inside the Pixel 9a, and while it’s not the fastest processor in the world, it never felt slow during real use. Here’s what we tried:
- Multitasking: Switching between Chrome, WhatsApp, and YouTube felt smooth with 8GB RAM.
- Gaming: PUBG Mobile ran well on High settings, and there were no heating issues.
- Everyday use: TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and WhatsApp ran flawlessly with no lags.
It is not a typical gaming phone, but for daily use, AI features, and photography, it works perfectly.
Pixel AI Camera Magic is Still Unbeatable
Now, let’s get to the real star of the show, the camera. We tested the Pixel 9a 48MP main camera in different lighting conditions, and honestly, this is where Google AI powered processing shines.
Daylight Photos: Insane detail, natural colors, and sharpness just like a flagship phone.
Low-Light Shots: Google Night Sight mode is still miles ahead of other phones in this price range.
Selfies & Video Calls: The 13MP front camera captures skin tones really well. No over-smoothing.
And the AI powered camera tricks like Magic Eraser (removes unwanted objects from photos) and Best Take (combines multiple shots for the best group photo) actually work great in real-life use.
In simple words: if you want the best camera in a mid range phone, the Pixel 9a wins easily.
Battery Life That Can Last a Full Day
The 5,100mAh battery lasted a full day easily, even with heavy usage. Here’s what we got:
- 8 hours+ screen-on time with YouTube, TikTok, and browsing.
- 35% battery left after a full day of normal use.
- Extreme Battery Saver mode stretched it to almost 2 days.
Although we found out that the charging is not the fastest (23W wired, Qi wireless), but it is enough to get you 50% of battery in just around 30 minutes.
Note: These tests outcome may vary due to environmental conditions at the charging place, as cold weather and extreme heat directly affect charging speed and battery life.
Google Pixel 9a Available Colors

The Pixel 9a is available in four amazing colors:
- Obsidian (Black)
- Porcelain (White)
- Iris (Blue)
- Peony (Pink)
Although we got our hands on the Iris (Blue) Google Pixel 9a for the review, but our favorite and first preference is the Obsidian (black) color of Pixel 9a.
Should You Buy the Google Pixel 9a in Pakistan?
Let’s break it down:
Buy it if:
- You want Google’s AI powered features and stock Android experience.
- You care about camera quality and love taking photos.
- You want 7 years of software updates (which beats even Samsung and Apple).
Skip it if:
- You don’t want to pay high PTA taxes (unless you use it as a secondary non-PTA device).
- You need super fast charging. 23W is fine, but not the fastest.
- You are a hardcore gamer. Snapdragon-powered phones might be better.
Our Final Verdict From Pixel 9a Review
After using the Pixel 9a for a while, here is our honest take. It feels like a flagship in daily use. The camera is easily the best in its class and budget, the display is very smooth, and Google AI features actually make it pretty great and life easier.
BUT if you are buying it in Pakistan, the PTA taxes will double the actual cost by which it won’t be a budget phone anymore. Or If you plan to use it with just WiFi or as a secondary device, then it is a fantastic choice.
So, would you buy the Pixel 9a in Pakistan despite the PTA tax? Please comment and let us know what you think of it! And as always, keep following Pakera.pk for honest and first hand reviews!
