DGI&P's visa policy lets tourist groups from 24 listed countries get a one month visa on arrival, with multiple entry, but only through a designated tour operator in Pakistan. The operator files the case, signs an undertaking that the group will not overstay, and can ask for up to 30 more days. A solo traveller cannot use this route.

We read the visa categories page of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) at dgip.gov.pk on 14 October 2026. The page shows a last-modified date of 14 September 2026. Below we set out the group route, who is on the list, and how it differs from the e-visa an individual uses.

Group tourists from 24 countries can get a one month visa on arrival

DGI&P says visa on arrival is allowed for one month of validity and stay, with multiple entry, for group tourists from 24 "Tourist Friendly Countries". The case must come through designated tour operators in Pakistan. The group leaves the airport with the visa stamped on arrival.

The list on the page is: Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the U.K. and the U.S.A. That is 24 names.

The tour operator, not the tourist, files the case

DGI&P says the case is submitted through designated or authorised tour operators only. The operator gives an undertaking that the tourists are its responsibility and will not overstay. It must also confirm in writing after the tourists have left the country.

DutyWhat DGI&P says
Who filesDesignated or authorised tour operator only
UndertakingTourists are the operator's responsibility and will not overstay
Validity and stayOne month, multiple entry
ExtensionOperator applies before expiry, up to 30 more days
ExitOperator confirms the tourists have left

This puts the risk on the operator, which is why the route is closed to anyone else. If a tourist overstays, the surcharge rules in the guide to Pakistan visa overstay surcharges apply, and the operator carries the blame for the undertaking.

Individuals use the e-visa, not this route

The group route is not for a person travelling alone. DGI&P's separate individual rules say a tourist applies online and shows the electronic authorisation at immigration. The page calls that "Visa in your Inbox" and suggests applying 48 to 72 hours ahead.

For the individual process, the portal categories and the fee check, read how foreigners apply for a Pakistan e-visa. For which of the eleven visa types fits a trip, see the DGI&P visa categories explained. Citizens of a few countries need no visa at all, as the visa-free entry table shows.

Extend a group stay through the same operator

If a group needs more time, DGI&P says the same operator applies before the visa expires for a further extension of up to 30 days. The group must not wait until the last day. The operator also reports when the tourists actually leave.

  1. Pick a designated tour operator in Pakistan before you plan the trip.
  2. Check that your country is on the list of 24.
  3. Let the operator submit the case and its undertaking.
  4. Arrive and collect the one month visa on arrival.
  5. If you need more days, the operator applies for an extension before expiry.
  6. After you leave, the operator confirms your exit to the authorities.

For other kinds of extension at a passport office, the guide to extending a Pakistan visa covers tourist, business and study cases. Foreign visitors to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should also read the KP foreign tourist registration and NOC rules.

Six steps for a group tourist visa on arrival through a designated tour operator in Pakistan

Check the operator list yourself

The DGI&P page prints a list of designated operators, but it gives old fax numbers and street addresses, and we cannot say if the list is current. Do not book on that list alone. Ask the operator for proof of designation, and confirm it with the tourism ministry or DGI&P.

DGI&P's home page links to the national tourism site at tourism.gov.pk. We did not find an up-to-date list of designated operators there, so we do not name any. We also did not find a processing time for a group case. Ask your operator to put the timeline in writing before you pay a deposit.

Foreigners from the listed countries who prefer to travel alone can ignore all of this. The group route is a convenience for tour companies, not a right. Anyone who is not on the list of 24 needs the standard visa process.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 14 October 2026. The 24 countries, the one month validity, the operator duties and the extension rule come from the DGI&P visa categories page, last modified 14 September 2026 according to the page. The tourism ministry's site is tourism.gov.pk. We did not use the operator list on the page, and we did not find a group fee or a processing time. Check DGI&P before you plan a group trip.
