Islamabad Waives the Urgent Driving Licence Fee and Plans 2 to 3 Day Doorstep Delivery
Islamabad police reportedly waived the urgent driving licence fee and cut delivery from two weeks to 2 or 3 days. See what changed and what is unconfirmed.

Short answer: Islamabad Traffic Police has dropped the urgent fee for driving licences, according to reports of a directive from the Islamabad Inspector General of Police on 10 October 2026. Regular licences are now meant to reach your door in 2 to 3 days, down from two weeks. Renewals and duplicates are meant to be ready within one hour.
Anyone who has paid the urgent fee in Islamabad knows the logic. You pay more because the normal queue is slow. This change removes the logic. If the regular service is itself fast, there is nothing left to sell as "urgent".
We read the Islamabad Capital Territory Police site and the ITP licensing portal on 12 October 2026. Neither published the directive or a new fee table when we looked. So the details below are reported, and we say so each time. The only figure we can give with confidence is the portal's help number.
The directive removes the urgent fee for licences
Reports say the Islamabad Inspector General of Police, Mohammad Sohail Chaudhry, ordered that the urgent driving licence fee be waived. The urgent fee for renewals and duplicates is removed too. Applicants pay the standard fee only.
The ICT Police site lists Captain (R) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry as Inspector General of Police, so the name matches the office. What we could not find is the written order. Until the traffic police publish it, treat "no urgent fee" as announced, not as a notified schedule.
That matters at the counter. If a clerk quotes you an urgent charge, ask for the order or a written fee schedule. Do not argue about it in the queue. Pay only the amount printed on the official challan or receipt.
Regular licences are meant to arrive in 2 to 3 days
The reports say the processing time for a regular licence falls from two weeks to 2 or 3 days. The licence then goes by courier to the address you give. You fill in an address form when you visit the ITP office, so the delivery step does not need a second trip.
| Service | Before, as reported | Now, as reported |
|---|---|---|
| New regular licence | About two weeks | 2 to 3 days, by courier |
| Urgent licence fee | Extra charge | Removed |
| Renewal | Urgent fee available | Within one hour, regular fee |
| Duplicate licence | Urgent fee available | Within one hour, regular fee |
| Visits to the office | Not stated | One visit |

Reported timings are promises, not guarantees. Courier delivery depends on a correct address, a working phone number and someone at home. Write both clearly on the form.
One visit covers the medical, the tests and the photo
The reports say an applicant now visits the office once to finish the medical test, the physical test and the photograph. After that, the licence is posted.
A learner permit still comes first for a new driver. Our guide to getting a driving licence in Islamabad sets out the order, which is learner permit, waiting period, medical, test and then the licence. The directive reported on 10 October 2026 speeds up the end of that chain. It does not remove the early stages.
- Get your learner permit and wait out the required period.
- Take your original CNIC and your learner permit to the ITP office or a police facilitation centre.
- Complete the medical test, the physical test and the photograph in one visit.
- Fill in the address form for the courier and pay the standard fee only.
- Keep the receipt and wait for delivery in 2 to 3 days.

Renewals and duplicates are meant to take one hour
Reports say a renewal or a duplicate licence can be ready within an hour at the ITP office or at a police facilitation centre, for the regular fee. That is the biggest saving for drivers who lost a card or let it expire.
If you lost your licence, a police lost report may be asked for. Our guide to an Islamabad police lost report for a CNIC, licence or car papers says it is free. Get that before you go to the counter.
After you receive the card, check that it is genuine and in the system. The guide to verifying an Islamabad learner permit or licence on ITP DLIMS shows the portal check. The portal lists a query line, 051-9001541, which we read on 12 October 2026.

What we could not confirm
We could not read the order itself, a fee table or a start date on any official page. We also cannot say whether the one hour renewal applies at every facilitation centre or only at some. Courier charges, if any, were not stated in the reports.
So before you travel, call the portal's query line or check the licensing portal. If your plan depends on a 2 day delivery, for example for a job or a visa, do not assume the best case. Apply a week earlier than you need it.
Common questions
Has Islamabad abolished the urgent driving licence fee?
Reports say the IGP ordered it to be waived on 10 October 2026. We could not find the written order on an official page, so confirm at the counter.
How long does a new licence take in Islamabad now?
Reports say 2 to 3 days by courier, down from about two weeks. Treat that as a target, not a guarantee.
Can I renew my licence in one hour?
Reports say renewals and duplicates can be issued within an hour at the ITP office or police facilitation centres. You pay the regular fee.
Do I still need a learner permit first?
Yes, for a first licence. The learner permit and its waiting period come before the test, and the directive as reported does not remove them.
Where do I check my licence online?
Use the ITP licensing portal at dlims.islamabadpolice.gov.pk. It lists verification and application services and a query line, 051-9001541.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read the Islamabad Capital Territory Police website and the ITP DLIMS portal on 12 October 2026. The directive and its details come from news reports of 10 October 2026, announced but not published by ITP on those pages when we looked.
