| Previous close (6 October) | 168,460.10 |
| Day high | 169,271.98 |
| Day low | 168,065.86 |
| Close | 168,580.40 |

| Change over one year | Up 1.45 per cent |
| 52-week range | 144,119.44 to 191,032.73 |
Tuesday's close was 2,592.79 points, or 1.56 per cent, above Monday's 165,867.31, the close in our 5 October report. So Wednesday's small gain came after a strong rebound. The index has now closed above 168,000 two days running.
Other indices were mixed. The All Share index of every listed company rose 0.19 per cent. The KSE-30 rose 0.09 per cent and the banks index, BKTI, rose 0.07 per cent. The KMI-30 Shariah index fell 0.06 per cent.
Five shares added about 300 points between them
The five biggest contributors were UBL, Systems Limited, Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan Telecommunication Company and K-Electric. Together they added about 301 points, more than twice the net gain. The shares that fell took the rest back.
Points added depend on two things: how far a share rose, and how big its weight is in the index. UBL rose only 0.75 per cent, but it is about 7.8 per cent of the KSE-100. K-Electric rose 8.05 per cent, the biggest percentage gain in the index, but its weight is small, so it added 43.98 points.

| Share | Price change | Index points added |
|---|---|---|
| United Bank (UBL) | Up 0.75% | 97.41 |
| Systems Limited (SYS) | Up 1.65% | 65.08 |
| Pakistan State Oil (PSO) | Up 1.67% | 48.44 |
| Pakistan Telecommunication (PTC) | Up 3.76% | 45.78 |
| K-Electric (KEL) | Up 8.05% | 43.98 |
Mari Energies and Meezan Bank cost the index the most points
Mari Energies cost the index 64.25 points, the largest single drag of the day. Meezan Bank cost 35.05, Lucky Cement 32.67, Hub Power 28.92 and OGDC 26.03.

| Share | Price change | Index points lost |
|---|---|---|
| Mari Energies (MARI) | Down 1.16% | 64.25 |
| Meezan Bank (MEBL) | Down 0.40% | 35.05 |
| Lucky Cement (LUCK) | Down 0.51% | 32.67 |
| Hub Power (HUBC) | Down 0.42% | 28.92 |
| OGDC | Down 0.36% | 26.03 |
One note on Lucky Cement. The portal tagged it XD on the day, meaning ex-dividend. On that day a new buyer no longer gets the declared dividend, so the price normally drops by around the dividend amount. Part of the 0.51 per cent fall may be the dividend leaving the price. We did not read the dividend amount.
Thirteen other index shares carried the same XD tag, so their moves are partly dividend effects too.
Banks ended slightly up, but only because of UBL
The 14 index shares with "Bank" in their name added a net 30.2 points. Without UBL, the other 13 lost 67.2 points. Meezan, Askari Bank and Bank AL Habib fell. Bank Makramah and Allied Bank rose.
We added up the index points ourselves from the constituent list on the PSX portal. Here is how the main groups finished:
- Oil and gas explorers: Mari, OGDC and PPL cost about 110 points, while Pakistan Oilfields (POL) added 6.9. The group as a whole was down about 103 points.
- Cement: 10 shares cost about 26 points together.
- Fertiliser: Fauji Fertilizer added 5 points, but Engro Fertilizers and Fatima Fertilizer cost about 45, a net loss of about 40 points.
No official reason has been given for the day's moves
PSX's data portal records prices, not reasons. We found no statement from PSX, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan or the State Bank of Pakistan that explains Wednesday's trading. Brokers and market commentators always offer reasons on a day like this. Those are opinions, and we are not repeating them as fact.
What we can say is that nothing unusual happened to trading. The KSE-30 rose 0.09 per cent, far from the roughly 5 per cent move that is reported to trigger a market-wide pause. That is how a PSX trading halt or circuit breaker works, and Wednesday came nowhere near it.
The next scheduled event that often moves Pakistani shares is the State Bank's rate decision. Its Monetary Policy Committee meets on 26 October 2026, and what a hold or a cut at that meeting means for loans and savings is worth knowing before then.
The index is 11.8 per cent below its 52-week high
On PSX's figures, the KSE-100's highest point in the past 52 weeks was 191,032.73. Wednesday's close of 168,580.40 is 22,452 points, or about 11.8 per cent, below that peak. It is about 17.0 per cent above the 52-week low of 144,119.44.

Since 1 January 2026, the index is down 3.14 per cent. Over a full year, it is up 1.45 per cent.
What a flat day means if you invest for years
For a long-term investor, a day like this changes nothing on the screen worth acting on. Your holding moves by a few rupees in every Rs 10,000, not by an amount you need to react to.
We are not giving investment advice, and nobody can tell you where the index goes next. These are the checks small investors usually find useful on any day:
- Check your own holdings, not just the index. Your shares or fund may have moved more or less than 0.07 per cent.
- Ask whether you need this money within a year or two. Money for school fees or rent is better kept out of shares.
- Look at what you hold as a share of your total savings. One sector, such as banks, can move the whole portfolio.
- Do not borrow to buy shares. Margin trading can force a sale at the worst moment.
If you are new and wondering how people buy shares at all, the steps to start investing on PSX in Pakistan cover the account, the broker and the CDC sub-account. Buying units in one of the mutual funds in Pakistan is the other route, where a fund manager picks the shares for you.
