To check life insurance policies on a CNIC in Pakistan, send the policyholder's 13 digit CNIC, without dashes, by SMS to 99833. This is the Life Insurance Policy Finder run with the Central Depository Company (CDC), and it covers policies held with life insurers, not just one company. Below are the insurer's own checks too, for State Life, Jubilee Life, EFU Life and Adamjee Life, and what to do if the SMS finds nothing.

Families usually need this after a death, when nobody can find the papers. Some people also want to see an old policy they stopped paying years ago. We read the policy finder notices on the websites of State Life and Adamjee Life, and the customer service pages of all four insurers, on 31 October 2026.

SMS the CNIC to 99833 to find policies across life insurers

The Life Insurance Policy Finder works by SMS. Type the CNIC number of the policyholder without dashes and send it to 99833. It can be used by the policyholder or by family members, including for a person who has died, so that a claim is not missed.

State Life's website advertises it as the "CDC Life Insurance Policy Finder" with the line "SMS your CNIC to 99833". Adamjee Life's home page gives the same short code and adds the detail about dashes. Adamjee also describes it as a policy locator service that lets families trace policies held in the name of deceased relatives.

Neither page says what the SMS costs or exactly what the reply contains. We did not send a CNIC to the code, so we cannot show you the reply. Treat the result as a lead: the insurer that holds the policy still decides the claim.

Every big life insurer also has its own policy check

If you already know the company, its own portal shows far more than a finder can: the premium due, the last payment and the policy status. Each insurer asks for the policy number, the CNIC, or both. This table lists what we found on each company's own site.

State Life has the quickest check of the four. Its E-Pay page asks for nothing but the policy number, then shows the policy and a "Check Last Payment" button. The full steps are in the State Life policy check by policy number.

Jubilee's portal sign up form asks for the life assured's details as they appear in the policy document, the CNIC or NICOP, and the policy number. EFU also takes queries by SMS: type "EFU LIFE" and send it to 9898, at Rs 2 an SMS, according to its contact page.

How to run the check, step by step

Start with the SMS, then go to the company, and keep a record of every reply. The order matters most when the policyholder has died, because the claim clock starts when the family tells the insurer.

  1. Write the policyholder's CNIC number with no dashes, 13 digits in a row.
  2. Send it by SMS to 99833 from your own phone.
  3. Save the reply. If it names a company, call that company's helpline from the table above.
  4. Ask the company for the policy status and, after a death, the claim forms.
  5. If the SMS finds nothing but you hold an old receipt, call the company on that receipt with the policy number.
  6. Check the company's unclaimed list as well, in case the money is already waiting.
Steps to check life insurance policies on a CNIC in Pakistan

Unclaimed lists show money already owed to a policyholder

Two insurers publish lists of benefits that nobody has collected. State Life has a search by name or policy number for unclaimed maturity proceeds, with data as at March 2026. Jubilee Life posts PDF lists of unclaimed insurance benefits as of 30 June 2026 and uncashed cheques as of 30 September 2026.

State Life says it sends a "Good News" letter to every policyholder at maturity, but many never come forward. If a parent's name is on one of these lists, the claim is made at the insurer's office, not by SMS. The State Life search and its documents are covered in State Life unpaid maturity claims.

A death claim starts with written intimation to the insurer

Finding the policy is only the first step. The family must tell the insurer in writing, attach the death certificate and CNIC copies, and then fill the claim forms the company sends. Jubilee asks for intimation within 30 days and documents within 90 days.

State Life says its claims department sends claim forms to the nominee within 7 days of the death intimation. Adamjee says a complete claim is usually decided in 5 to 7 working days. The full list of forms, papers and time limits is in the guide to claiming life insurance after a death.

A lost policy document does not cancel the claim. State Life's FAQ says the claim is still paid after an indemnity bond with two sureties and a newspaper notice of the loss.

Do not pay anyone to find a policy for you

The finder is an SMS you send yourself. No agent, broker or caller needs your CNIC, your bank details or a fee to run it for you. If someone calls to say a relative left a policy and asks for money to release it, hang up and call the insurer's helpline yourself.

Only deal with companies that hold a licence. You can check an insurer or broker is SECP licensed before you share any papers. If a licensed insurer refuses or delays a valid claim, the Federal Insurance Ombudsman takes complaints online and on its 1082 helpline.

Common questions

What number do I send my CNIC to for a life insurance check?

Send the CNIC, without dashes, to 99833. State Life and Adamjee Life both publish this short code for the CDC Life Insurance Policy Finder.

Can I check a dead parent's insurance by CNIC?

Yes. Adamjee Life says the service lets families trace policies held in the name of deceased family members. Use the parent's CNIC number.

Does the 99833 check cost money?

The insurers' pages do not state a charge. Your network may charge a standard SMS rate. We did not send a test SMS, so we cannot confirm the cost.

Can I check a State Life policy without the CNIC?

Yes. State Life's E-Pay page needs only the policy number. It shows the policy details and lets you check the last payment.

Does the policy finder cover takaful plans?

The notices we read speak of life insurance policies and do not say clearly whether family takaful is included. Ask the takaful operator directly if you hold a takaful plan.

What if the SMS shows no policy?

Look for old receipts, bank debits or letters that name a company, then call that company with the policy number. Check the unclaimed lists of State Life and Jubilee Life too.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 31 October 2026. We read the policy finder notices on State Life's Manage Your Policy page and on Adamjee Life's home page, plus the customer service, contact and claims pages of State Life, Jubilee Life, EFU Life and Adamjee Life, all on 31 October 2026. Helplines and portal requirements come from those pages. We did not send an SMS to 99833, so the reply format and any charge are not confirmed. We could not open the CDC or SECP announcement of the service for this check.
